This could be bad for us.

Strong mail we will lose Choc to the Dees, but a thread from last week was speculating we will be losing Leppa to GWS

Really don't want to be losing either of them :(

Disastrous. They have both been as big a part of turning this club around as Benny and Dimma etc. The development of our back line has been so impressive under Leppa. Houli, Rance, Morris etc. We don't really have the high draft picks for him to work with in the back line. Choc has already shown his worth with the development of our youngsters. So many journos etc talking us up as having the most promising kids going around. Will be shattering if either leave let alone both.

If we lose Choco, and I sincerely hope we don't, I would consider trying to get Gary Ayres across to play a similar role. Another great teacher of young footballers with a great football mind and pedigree.

Losing Leppa wouldn't be great either but it will be impossible to keep all assistant coaches, and ultimately not healthy. If it does come to that, or any other of our support coaches, we just need to be able to replace them with a similar high calibre candidate which given our revitalised position as a stronger club in the league with great facilities and strong, stable leadership, we should be able to do.

I like your thinking. But let's hope they sign Eade, Ratts or Clarko. :thumbsu:

Just a thought, but how would this be? Williams walks into a meeting with all of the players, Lokks both JR and Martin straight in the eye and says....

"I'll take less money if you do too" then Choco, Leppa, Jack and Dusty all sign together!

Beautiful :hearts:;)

Pardon my ignorance but isn't Chocco under contract? If so then how does that work? Does he have a walk out clause? How the hell do you walk on a team mid-season?

Generally assistant coaches have something in their contract that says they can walk out if a senior coaching position is available.

Wasn't Choco available when they last appointed a coach?

What a fu*king rabble.

None of the above means that Melbourne should not apply due diligence to this appointment - something it failed to do last time in not passionately pursuing Ross Lyon the way Fremantle did, nor wooing Mick Malthouse, nor even bothering to invite Ken Hinkley for a second interview.
Williams did not interest the Demons then either.

Williams’ contract with Richmond is directly linked to Damien Hardwick’s - a matter that would become irrelevant should Melbourne offer him the senior job and he chooses to take it.

All assistant coaching positions have a clause they they can leave for a more senior position. Sanderson left Geelong when they were in the middle of finals and same with Leon Camerson going to GWS mid season.

I think he'll stay, He will have only just got himself sorted I can't see him making a change again so soon

Seriously drives me mental when other clubs screw up and the AFL comes running to bail them out. We were an administrative basket case for decades and had to painstakingly fix the entire organization one person at a time. Melbourne steer their ship into the rocks and immediately the AFL is there to save them.

The idea of the AFL giving Port Adelaide millions so they can sack Mark Williams, then giving Melbourne millions so they can hire him away from us... you couldn't make this up.

Melbourne's decision-making at a board and administrative level has been appalling the last few years, with no sign they've learned anything. But no need to live with the consequences, the AFL is here to save the day.

Piss off, Caro.
No one likes you.

Speak for yourself Capitano.
I reckon she's the best footy journo out there. Not part of the ex player schmooze fest, asks the hard questions, writes the tough articles. Her stance on Essendon for example has highlighted in big letters how bad that program was. No one else would've written it.
We've gotta take the good with the bad. Chocco to Dees is obviously a high option for them, uncontracted players and GWS another. Shooting of messenger?

Fully concur on that, i rate ayres as a coach, i mean how the heck can anyone argue otherwise with the success he continues to have....i reckon williams will take it if offered. The fact he left gws and has not discounted the idea, makes me think he is gunning for the job. Lord knows why, will be a prick of a job for first 2 years with some progress possible in third if 2 drafts are decent. Im not totally convinced he will get it, his last couple of seasons were ordianry at Port, he was known as a a hard fella to work with
