Do we really have a chance?

Which team is in form?

Can we beat these flogs?

How many frees for highs will the selwoods get?

So many questions and a whole glorious week to wind ourselves up into a peaky froth

This Derby win will be one of the sweeter ones of recent memory. The media brown nosing the Eagles to sickening proportions after their (admittedly good) climb from the wooden spoon, with them being hailed 'top four fancies' and 'a premiership threat'. All the while we go about our season being injury ****ed and treated with relative disdain (eagles adds during our game etc)

If we come out with the home crowd behind us and win, we will be on the same amount of points as the Eagles, on a roll of 4 in a row and a great chance to make finals and have an impact with players coming back. I wanna smash these ***** and i hope beyond hope that we see the clanger squad of Ebert, Waters, Mckenzie, Mcginnity and Schofield show their true colours after rearing their heads for stages during the St Kilda game :thumbsu:

Could go either way.

WC's pressure on the ball and locking the ball deep has been nothing short of excellent.

Gees we need McPharlin for Kennedy, but predominantly we need to win the stoppages.

Griffin will be a key.

We're in a much better place than when we played them earlier this season, Sandi a 50-50, Suban possibly back then we're only Mundy and Mora short of our best 22. That said they've been good this season but you'd expect us to take it.

Yea, we're better placed, but we will go in as underdogs and rightly so. They are supper organised and confident on the field, have an injury run sent from heaven and will be extra pumped to bounce back after being burnt vs Saints.

I think we should be able to match them in the middle (unless Griffin doesn't come up), but their tall players are a major problem for us last time and will be again. We just don't have the timber to take them all on and they are all in good form (except Darling) too - if McPharline doesn't play, I'll give us next to no chance.

I don't really rate them. They are playing great footy, but that is because they've adopted the Collingwood/St Kilda system, not because of any overall class.

It is telling that when they have come up against teams using similar systems (Essendon, Collingwood, St Kilda) they have lost. We played the press far more last year, that system has been nearly completely absent this year.

The reason why we lost the last derby is that we had too many players waiting around the edge of packs hoping for an easy ball. Only Fyfe, Mundy and Pav wanted to go in and get the ball.

Mundy won't be there, but Lower and Broughton have improved, and Barlow and Ballantyne will be back. If we tackle hard and win the contested ball, we can win this. Hopefully we don't have the Lynch on Johnson match up again.

Hmm, going on form and game style, objectively I'd have to say West Coast will win and by 40-50 points. Each of the 3 wins we've had going in have been far, far from convincing and they're beating top quality opposition. They're defensive pressure is in a different league to ours right now, they've got better players on the paddock and we've got better players on the long term injury list.

The man I want to see come back is Suban. I honestly think we've seriously lacked his defensive presence since the Tigers game (coinciding with the start of our rut and the our pressure downfall). If he's back I might feel a little better.

Just once I wish I could be in WA for a derby week, then I might be able to pump myself up for these games like the rest of you :(

Does anyone else see WC's year as the same as ours last year ?
Better. At this stage last year, Barlow had broken his leg, Sandilands and Ballas had begun to break down, Tarrant was out for what turned out to be the remainder of the season.

The wheels started to fall off around this time for us. They still have a near full list to choose from.

Kind of, but a key difference is they haven't unearthed anyone like a Fyfe/Barlow/SNOS. With the exception of Darling (who seems to have cooled off anyway), it's mostly just their veteran players staying fit and playing good footy.

I think our defensive pressure has increasingly been getting better, and will especially be so with Ballantyne in the side.

We out tackled Sydney on the weekend (97-91). I think that's pretty telling, considering some of our tackle numbers earlier in the season. We're actually ranked 2nd overall in tackles per game now. It's all about application, if you don't want to tackle, you won't. It's the same mindset players need to have when it comes to running for teammates, chasing loose opponents, shepherding, blocking etc.

We are the hunted not the hunters this week. Underdog status Just how we like it.
The good thing about all the wind bagging the local media have been giving them means they will feel the heat on themselves. All we need do is hang in until they crack.
I thought our first 10 minutes against the Swans was a taste of what to expect more of this week. As long as we don't get the jitters in the last 1/4 like we have done in other games we could snatch one on Sunday.

I am pretty confident to be honest. The toast are playing well, but we are doing what needs to be done and we are getting players back and games into players. I also think we match up on them pretty well now.

I think this game comes at the right time for us.

Last game we'd played timid footy against Richmond the week before and were in a stretch of nothingness for about 5-6 rounds. We've slowly started to show more attack on the footy and lifting our work rate. The midfield on the weekend wasn't amazingly classy but solid and hard working. I think we can match the Eagles.

Even if we lose, I think we'll play the correct kind of footy.

Lower, Broughton and Barlow in the middle will be a big difference this time and of course Ballantyne up forward.

I sense we have gained a lot from the win against Sydney. They set themselves for it, had a plan and executed. I expect much the same on Sunday.

Clarke v NicNat is going to be interesting..

If we bring that same attitude to the game against west coast I think it will be close. Woosha was his usual expansive self on channel 7 and Teague also said Kerr was 50 50 so prob will play which is a big in for them. Stating the obvious but the saints really controlled the clearances in that first qtr how do ppl think our midfield compares? Will Harvey play 3 talks in griffin keps and zac assuming sandi doesn't come up?
