Which has been the greater rivalry over the past 5 years on the field?
Which do you feel evokes more emotion between the two teams and their fans and has provided better games of football?

No fans of the SA or WA clubs to vote please.......

The Showdown is always a fierce rivalry, and although the WA sides have more fans collectively than the SA teams, the Showdown has produced some absolute classics over the last few years, whereas the Derby has more often than not been between a high flying Eagles side and a lowly Dockers side, until the last 2 years when both have been lowly.

How does that figure. Its been 10-10 over the past 20 Derbys.

Besides the Dockers giving the Eagles one flogging when they were both top 4 sides everyone has been pretty close in the past 5 years.

I dont know much about how each state reacts so I wont vote.

I make sure not to miss any of these games though regardless of ladder position or form. Guaranteed to get 100% from all of the teams involved so can make for some classic matches.

you ask for those with an interest to not vote then you yourself comment and try to sway opinion? nice.

showdown very easily - maybe the derby in the early day when dale kickett was throwing haymakers left right and centre, but the derby is living off that fight, whereas the showdown has alot more going for it and is quite often a closer, hard fought matchup both on the field and in the pub afterwards

You know fans of both state's clubs are going to vote anyway, so allow for a more non-biased poll, a little bit of thinking would've gone a long way.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, in order to make a non-biased poll, allow for appropriate poll options.

In this case:

Derby (I'm an eagle/docker fan)
Showdown (I'm a crow/power fan)
Derby
Showdown

My vote goes to showdown.

14-12 is a tight record, each team's supporters dislike the other team, and the matches are generally significantly better.

I think the fact we were absolutely creamed for so long makes the derby even more fiery.

If it hadn't been so, I don't think it would have the emotional loading it now does. Even though it was really tough to live through that. :o

On the whole - the 'Western Derby' is the far superior derby to the 'Showdown".
More passion, blood, courage and will to win has been shown by both sides in a Western Derby overall than a 'Showdown'.
Western Derbies' always sell out as well so it obviously has more interest than the 'Showdown', and if Subi was bigger than 43000 it would still sell out.

showdown is by far the greatest rivarly not just out of the derby but also in the AFL.
freo and wce were born from nothing, they have no rivalry and just because there in the same city doesnt mean that they hate each other. Its without a doubt the most overrated rivalry in the AFL. In SA, its always been Port v SA for over 100 years, and crows have pretty much takin that SA role. In Adelaide, you either hate port or love em, much more passionate in SA then WA

In terms of passion, rivalry, etc. the derby is far superior to the Showdown, but in terms of the quality of the football being played and in turn the closeness of the contest, the Showdown has always been streets ahead of the derby (no, that's not your fault West Coast, but you guys are only 50% of the match up).

Yeah because Sydney vs..... ummm yeah that's right no one cares :)

In a few years time, West Sydney vs Sydney will be bigger than the Showdown. After a few years, as the rivalry intensifies, it will be bigger than Toodyay vs Goomalling. :thumbsu:
