At the risk of this turning into the usual bagfest, I think Des deserves his very own thread for yet another quality game. He has consistently been in our best players over the last few weeks and has really stepped up during Farmer's absence. I'd like to see him move a little further up the ground with Famer back and Taz to return next week - let him deliver the ball to the forwards as well as kicking a few of his own.

Well done Des and keep up the great effort. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

He has actually been quite consistent this year, another terrific game today, it's amazing, you don't really notice how many goals he actually kicks, until he's lining up for goal number 5 or 6 and you're left thinking "gee when did this happen". Would be interesting to see his goal tally for the year. Would be over 20 surely.

if he plays like he had today against the swans then ill pay him respect. he played really well today and against the tigs, but if he can do it against quality opposition in sydney at the scg, that will be the next level.

should be an interesting game next week.

He has had his best season for us so far. Great game today by Dessie.:thumbsu::)

Wheres that guy that started that Headland bashing thread a month or so ago????

Desmond has been my favourite player for ages, glad to see the rest of you are catching on. He always plays well when the media spotlight has been on him though, a big month from Dessie will go a long way towards us playing in Spetember.

Mundy and Matt Carr were good today too, those two probably had their best game of the season. :thumbsu:

I'm going to chuck...

The guy remains our "Lynch of 06"
When we are at our best..So is he.

Great skills, the complete footballer.

Consistently goes missing when we are in trouble :thumbsd:

That said though..At no stage this season has he ever had his place in jeopardy...Contract renewed for sure

Des has been sensational this year! I think it's his best year since his days at Brisvegas!

look i will put my hand up as the biggest des bagger here, because i believe that for a lot of this year and the years gone by he has been nothing more than a passenger...... buty in the last four weeks he has been fantastic, to the standard that we expected for the price that we payed for him. he was veryh very good today..... and while i am eating a little humble pie, i will gloat with the performance of matt carr who was fantastic. and those who said he should be dropped should look again, he was back to his best. we still have peake crowley sandilands and tarrant to come back in. imo mcmanus, parker, gilmore and michael johnson should be looking at their positions and hoping that they get a game

I don't know, there's a lot of competition for that title.

It's incredible how much more dangerous we look when Des is flying - could be one of our trump cards in our push to the finals. We saw what he's capable of at Brissy when he gets on a roll. Awesome stuff. That's the sort of dominant half season we need from him right now.

Mcamanus, Parker, Gilmore and Johnson were all fine yesterday.

Was it you (and a dozen others) who wanted Webster instead of Headland? Thank goodness we have a half decent coach who can recognise a talented hardman like Des.

Is it only a few people who see the value of Macca and Soli in the team ?. They will never be classed as "pretty boy" footballers, but boy they sure get down and dirty every week providing the grunt.

Have a think, who goes from one tackle to the next, dives onto a ball amongst 3 opponents, shepherds his team mates, never says die .......... they have their place in the team and both are playing well.

No argument from me masai:thumbsu:

Some people do have their whipping boys it seems.

Yep, it seems Macca is back on the agenda with some people.

I can assure you that with the selection committee, his name is a long way from the " to WAFL agenda".
Anyone who has ever taken an overseas visitor to the AFL knows they miss most of what is going on. The notice the obvious things -- like the goal umpires and their flag waving.

Over time people tend to move past the obvious and they become more insightful as to what it takes to win an AFL game.

Macca is always on the agenda, and I'll leave my fellow posters to figure out where the Macca baggers fit on the continuum from obvious to insightful.

And what about Matty Carr? Everyone and their goat has been taking a shot at him this year. Did anyone notice he had a different role yesterday? Suddenly people think he played a great game. How can you possibly accurately measure their performance without looking at the stats of their direct opponent, the mileage they have covered throughout the game (beep beep) and of course their opponents influence on the game.

I wouldn't be so sure masai.

Maybe some people are also clouded by the fact he is a club legend and over value his performances.

Watch a replay of the first quarter and even the 2nd quarter when the game was a contest, follow Macca closely and then rate his performance out of 10.

To me, Macca only plays well when the team plays well. He plays well when he is allowed to peel off around the wings and is allowed space to carry the ball. He struggles when he has an opponent and he struggles when the game is a physical contest. We all agree his commitment is sensational but sometimes that isn't enough.

We are entrenched in the bottom 8..... our midfield sucks.... he is not one of our best midfielders... people are allowed to question his place in the side.

And as for Solly, he is one of my favourites. He is playing fantastic.
