Traded Devon Smith [traded to Essendon]

We've been pretty tight lipped, who's to say there isn't a chance we're trading out players.

It's all just speculative at the moment, i highly doubt Smith will choose Collingwood because his player manager will be an employee there.

Nobody is that short sighted.

But for what it's worth, Wells will finish up after next year, Sidebottom should move to half forward, i don't think there is an issue accomodating him in the midfield.

We don't even know how much midfield time he wants?
50/50, could be split between him and DeGoey.

Anyways, i still think Carlton are the front runners for his services.
He could probably still fit at any club, splitting between forward and mid.

Think you'll also find Wells has still got 2 years on his deal.

A list manager is just a cog in a wheel at a football club.

Ultimately it is going to come down to the following factors:

Money
Opportunity
Injury management (which Guy stated)

Compared to Essendon, Carlton and St Kilda.

We wouldn't have as much money to throw around

We can't offer him as much midfield time as all 3 clubs

Our injury management certainly is an area of concern as you would be aware.

Nice summary. Would a point of advantage for Collingwod though be that they don't play at Etihad like the other 3 suitors? For a 24yo with a dodgy knee, like O'Meara, playing for an MCG Club could be a plus.

He is 10x the player Colyer is. Would be a huge upgrade for the Dons.
pre-ban, Colyer was a good weapon for us.
He was very fumbly this year. And if we're going with McGrath and Parish off the wings, he will be under pressure.

Smith in to rotate with either Begley or Stringer (should we land him) through the middle/HF would be good for us.
Smith would probably see more midfield time with us than forward. though his height is a little bit of a concern.

Merrett, McGrath, Parish - all small mids. Add Smith to that.

Too small IMO.

I heard he used to share a bed with Jake Barrett when he had nightmares.
So he doesn't want to go to north to play with his best mate josh kelly??

You guys are really going for a side full of pace ey

Already got speedsters like McGrath, Tippa, Fantasia, McKenna & Colyer...now apparently into Smith and Saad.
I'd probably argue that's enough pace and smaller players but i guess Essendon see that as their new frontier and edge.

Merrett is quite quick as well. Doesn't seem it and doesn't use it a lot. But he is quick off the mark and not easily caught.
Add Smith, Stringer and Saad - and you see a pattern emerging. Consider we were into JJ too.

We carved up a couple of stoppage hardened teams this year in Sydney and Geelong. Losing that first game to sydney after the foot came off the pedal. (ignore the final, we didn't turn up).

Then we beat quick teams at their own game in St Kilda and Port.

its a good game plan for us. But requires the level of intensity and confidence to be on every week.
It also falls apart in the wet.

I'd ignore that Saints game, we didn't turn up that day. :)

Swap of EFC & GWS 2018 1st rounders plus our 2018 2nd rounder?
Hard to predict the difference in first rounders. I think your trajectory is North.
I'd probably take the gamble but it would be just that. Not sure if the club would.

at the rate seasons are going, all future pick swaps are a gamble.
But i imagine you guys are top 4 still come end of season. even if we make finals, not sure we'd go far.
2019 is when I'm thinking we'll be ready.
