When you and your mates are obsessed with music, some interesting hypothetical questions arise when discussing the subject over a few drinks/cones. I'm gonna lay the most interesting ones out here once a week and see what peoples opinions are.

The first question....

Would the Foo Fighters have been as successful, or even existed, had Kurt Cobain not offed himself?

Would the Foo Fighters have been as successful, or even existed, had Kurt Cobain not offed himself?

100%.

Grohl is brilliant and a multi instrumentalist.

Having to wrok with a meloncholy smackhead would have assuered this bands life span was limited.

Dave was by far the glue in what would otherwise have been a drug ****ed mess.

NB-cobains melodies became amazingly stronger after working with Dave.

Definately. The original Foo Fighters CD was all Grohl anyways, all drums, guitar, bass and vocals. So he would have made that as a side project seperate from Nirvana. Furthermore, I couldnt see Nirvana lasting as long as the foo fighters have, as their relationship seemed very volatile. So yeah, they would still be around if Kurt Cobain didnt die

Because there's every chance some of his songs or sounds/ideas ended up making their way into Nirvana's repetoire.

This would mean if he did then go solo people might not have been as into it because it was all a bit "Nirvana" like again.

most of the "Sounds" as u put it already ended up on Nirvana records.

The sound was already there from bands that influenced them, they just added their own words and tunes.

Nirvana's sound wasn't anything special or ground breaking in regards to them creating it.

And by new sound you mean a guitar rock band.

It wasn't that big a change from Nirvana really.

If he'd gone and created a dub reggae group that would be creating a whole new sound for him.

I like Dave he's a talented down to earth guy who puts out some good material, but if he'd stayed longer with Nirvana i'm not sure he'd have had the success he had due to the events surrounding Kurt's death because the environment would have been a different one had he ventured into other projects with Nirvana still around.
