You know what grinds my gears?

I want to know what coaches are watching during the game. Reportable incident happens "Wasn't watching, didn't see it."

Player gets injured "Didn't see it, can't comment"

Not watching the game or avoiding journalists questions...you be the judge...

Do you think a coach worries about those sorts of things during a game. Are they going to watch replays of what's happened that they can't change or focus on what's going to happen.
Think you're confusing the roles of media/ fans & coaches

Coaches are trying to look at what their team is doing, what the oppo is doing, talking to assistant coaches, talking to players

Not at all surprised if they dont see it.

In saying that I think it's a tactic to not answer the question with plausible deniability

Longmire is the king of this.

It's obviously just the easiest way to get out of commenting on it and saying the wrong thing. You can't have coaches trying to exert undue influence on league decisions through public statements.

Unless your name is Alistair Clarkson, then go nuts and get a free coffee out of it.

It's the AFL version of "I have no recollection of that".

What’s the point of a coach worrying about something he can’t control like a suspension or injury; he’s not the GM of footy or a doctor, he just coaches the senior side

I think there's a lot of the coaches a lot to focus on in game in the answer. Also an acknowlegement that an emotional response is not a good idea.

I’m not sure the coaches are watching Fox footy which shows replays of incidents.

I was at Melbourne’s game on the weekend and didn’t know Lever was injured until I looked at the AFL app at half time, didn’t know Melksham went off injured until after the game.

If you don’t see something, you don’t see it.

Maybe slightly off your original topic but the amount of times you hear AFL journalists saying "I didn't see that game, but..."

I would've thought if you're someone like Mark Robinson and your job was to comment on AFL, you'd have every game recorded and watched before any media responsibilities on Monday.

Really disappointed the coach can't give and in depth opinion on what he saw viewing live when a player got injured in a game moving at 100mph, while sitting up 100m from the action. The added insights would be invaluable....

Ross Lyon has become a master of this of late.

He makes comments expecting supporters to buy his rubbish but let's be honest, you have to wonder what game he's watching.

He obviously didn't see the same game that supporters saw.

Brad Scott tried speaking his mind. Whiny turds didn't like it so he was forced into diplomatic language.

The AFL fines coaches for saying anything publically. Its not worth the hassle.

Im sure if coaches could say what they liked we would have a much more interesting midweek.
Yep. Release the muzzle. Let them talk about umpires, why can't they, it's a silly rule.

What purpose does it serve other than to serve the AFL and silence anyone that criticises from within?

I really don'W know the incident or comments he made so if you have a link that would be handy.

But when you say whiny turds was it the afl or public that were whiny turds? Because if it's the public then that's fine. If it's the afl it's a dictatorship.

The difference being as fans we can listen to something using freedom of speech which we would all prefer more if in the game, but if someone says something stupid (I don't know if he did in this case) freedom of speech doesn't protect you from a response.
