Exactly and you wouldn't knock back another one just because you've got him

Didn't you see the rest of my post? Or did you just choose to ignore it.

I know you'd like to think theres a player on your list that would get a game in our all conquering side, but simple facts are, we don't need him.

More is not always better :P

Love Dids but he's as good as gone lying to Eddie , mick , Burnsy and Pert's faces sorry but seeya.:(

Is the preference about the fact he can't handle a tag or he can't drive when he's pi*sed ???

Most kicks in the AFL would show he goes ok on a tag?

Yeah but it has to be a balance between sending a message and damaging the club.

If it's purely to send a message, nothing is more effective than sacking him 9am this morning.

These things can also blow over very quickly, the media is like a barking dog, once you throw them a big enough bone they will shut up and chew it then go looking for something else.

Indefinite suspension gives us the option to reassess the impact on the playing group, potential trades and the perception of the club over time, then make a carefully thought out decision at the end of the year.

I think any rash move tomorrow would not be in the best interests of the club.
Agree, and so did Bucks on 3aw 20min ago. He thinks an indefinite suspension for both would be the best decision.

I reckon Eddie and Mick should hang their heads in shame as well and we need to look at the 2 of them and see if they are the right blokes to be involved in the club. They have taken a "softly softly" approach for years now, we dont suspend our big name players when they stuff up, they let them get away with it time after time. It dosent work. We are a laughing stock AGAIN. Eddie, Mick and Didak have all done their dash with me I think all of them should leave the club. If they have to start again from the ground up then so be it, we need a Coach who has some balls, a President who is sensible and dosent have a holier than thou attitude like Eddie does, and we need LEADERSHIP ON THE FIELD. They should move heaven and earth to get Jonathan Brown theres no way he would put up with this c rap.:(
I totally agree with your comments about Malthouse. I am not so negative about Eddie but I think that it is Malthouse's philosophy as to the lmited role of our leadership group as opposed to other AFL clubs. I seriously think that Malthouse has run his race. Just read the article in today's Herald-Sun as to his critique of the current style pf play that my team plays. It think that it is time for a change and as I have said in previous posts about this matter. I do not think that Nathan Buckley is the automatic successor having not done a serious AFL apprenticeship as an assistant coach. What about GAVIN CROSISCA? 1990 Premiership player who has done an apprenticeship at both North and Carlton as well as coached an independent and stand-alone VFL at North Ballarat. I think that he and DAKES (as his assistant) would be a perfect combination? What do you think? Plus they are Collingwood through and through

Cheers

Greening 22.

I am pretty sure there wouldn't be such a hysterical reaction if this happened at say Melbourne ot the Bulldogs, and the fact that such an player with 'priors' like Didak was involved ...
Although I reckon a lot of people are being very 'self-righteous' about this issue in the media, didn't Caro once admit to drink driving herself when she was younger ?
Why should she be qualified then to comment on the mistake that Heath Shaw did ?

I did ignore the irrelevant, you put that list together by getting as many good players together as possible.. that process never ends

I can guarantee you that if Collingwood says Didak for Prismall your lot would be all over it like white on rice

You can try to deny it but we both know it's true ;)

And you really think that Collingwood are going to do that deal, salary cap aside?

Buckley is the only recently retired player I would be confident could walk into the job without an apprenticeship.. he has been super impressive as a commentater.. everything he does he does with maniacal professionalism

To everyone thinking Buckley can just step in and coach well I give you two words and two words only, now think about this:

TONY SHAW

(enough said)

that's not the point.. you told me you had enough players so you wouldn't take him.. I just proved you would

You have to be kidding me don't you?

Collingwood wouldn't do the deal you mentioned anyway, and lets take a look at a player who we wouldn't have to give anything up for to get our hands on...

Ben Cousins

He's achieved a hell of a lot more in his career than Didak, still has 2 to 3 good years of footy left in him, was born in Geelong, grew up a mad Geelong supporter, and wasn't all that far away from coming to us under the father son rule.

As soon as we were asked would we look at him what did we say? We didn't say, no he's a drug ****ed moron, we said, we don't need him, and don't have the money available to snare him even if we did.

People also asked us if we'd make inquiries about Judd. Again, we said no, for exactly the same reasons.

Didak may be a bit younger, but he still comes with plenty of baggage and will come at a much higher price than Cousins. Why would we be any more inclined to look at him?

However, if you will take Shannon Byrnes for him, and hes willing to play for half what he's getting now, you know we just might be able to fit him into our VFL side :D

I'm going to rub salt into the wound here but this is worth a re-read I think.

Nick Hulett 4:09 PM Thu 17 July, 2008

Collingwood star Alan Didak has committed to the club until the end of the 2010 season, having signed a new two-year contract this week.

Didak is enjoying a fine season as a midfielder/half forward having played all 15 games and booted 20 goals while averaging 22 touches per outing.

After winning the Copeland Trophy and All Australian honours in 2006, Didak underwent knee surgery at the end of that year and while he was a solid contributor in 2007 on the back of limited preparation, he has returned to his brilliant best in 2008.

He spoke exclusively to CollingwoodTV at the Lexus Centre after inking the new deal.

“I feel pretty good. Probably this time last year I thought my career was at the crossroads, so it’s good to finally get the deal done,” Didak said.

“It’s obviously been a long journey, but a good one so far.

“It takes me to 10 years at the club, and I’ll get life membership after that, so exciting times, and we’re in a good position to be in the finals. We’ve just got to keep winning, and hopefully make the top four and keep going forward.”

Since the middle of 2007, the 25-year-old has been contractually bound to terms and conditions relating to alcohol restrictions and a curfew. Those restrictions no longer apply under the terms of the new contract.

“It’s good to know that with a new contract there are no other conditions that I had implemented last year.

“It’s good that I’m going to be treated like any other individual in the team, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I fully understand I have a responsibility to carry myself in a way that is acceptable to the Collingwood Football Club.”

While the last 12 months have not been easy on Didak, the support he’s received has been instrumental in helping him through.

“The support’s been fantastic through the club, my friends and family, just been enormous support.

“The last six months have been pretty challenging, I definitely learned to know my friends a lot better.”

Now, with the Magpies sitting fifth on the ladder and eyeing a top-four finish with seven rounds to play, and Didak playing some of the best football of his 135-game career, the game is more fun than ever for the number three pick from the 2000 draft, who’s spending more time in the midfield this season.

“I’m definitely enjoying my footy at the moment, it’s probably been the most enjoyable year to date, and the team’s in a good position to play off in the finals, so we’ve just got to keep winning now and stay in there.

“It (his role in the team) is a different role, it’s more of a high half forward/midfield role.

“Back in ’06 I was sort of a permanent half forward, kicking the goals and setting them up, but this year I’m up the ground, pushing to the stoppages and really striving for that midfield position.”

Didak has gradually been learning to understand and cope with the pressures and scrutiny of AFL football, and as a senior player he is making more of an effort to guide and assist many of Collingwood’s emerging youngsters.

“My first couple of years at the club, you don’t understand the pressures that come with AFL footy, but over time you learn to deal with it. I think being in my eighth season now I understand that.

“It (media) is something that I don’t really enjoy doing, but I understand now, going into my ninth season next year, that I’ll have to do a lot more of it.

“A lot of the older guys are retiring now, so it’s up to me to do a lot of the work, and help the younger guys and teach them.

“I go out of my way to help a lot of the younger guys now, more one-on-one stuff than in front of the group.

“It’s also good to get on here (CTV), and let the Collingwood fans know that I’ve signed a two-year deal and I’m happy that I’m going to stay for another two years.

“We’ve got a good three months ahead of us now, so hopefully we can get in the finals and win a premiership.”

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire told collingwoodfc.com.au: “The club is delighted Alan has signed a two-year contract. Not only is he one of the key players in our team, he also is a much loved player amongst his team mates and the Magpie Army.

“Alan found himself in difficult circumstances midway through last year, and has shown what self imposed discipline can do for anyone who finds themselves in such a situation.

“Alan maintained all the restrictions on his private life that he committed to in order to remain part of the Collingwood Football Club.

“We believe he has earned our trust and has learned from the experience and shown great self discipline to give us the confidence that Alan can get on with his life free of restriction and be a positive force in all aspects of our club,” McGuire added.

Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh echoed McGuire’s feelings upon finalising Didak’s new contract.

“From a football point of view we’re delighted we were able to secure Alan for another two years.

“This signing coincides with Alan being in terrific form, which we’re confident will carry through as we continue to strive for a top four position.”

Completely agree. Unlike Voss, Bucks has done nothing but impress since hanging them up

Why didn't Heath Shaw flee the seen as well ??? Then they could have said that their car was stolen by Humprey B. Bear while they were home watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

Has it been proven that Didak actually lied?

Infact the only evidence we have suggests it was Heath that told some porkies.

Infact the only evidence we have suggests it was Heath that told some porkies.

The statement last night from CFC indicated that they were both questioned repeatedly about it. Didak lied.

Does it matter if Didak was in the car? In all seriousness? Why do people generally care? Sure he lied and therefor deserves punishment, but Heath now becoming the forgotten man in all this.

I wish Krang was our coach.

Thompson from Adelaide gets charged and has a jail sentence suspended for reckless driving and endangering lives and you could hear and ant fart around here.

Didak lies about being in a car with a drunken driver and people are calling for blood and the Herald Sun runs 6 pages.

Reality check people.
