Just wondering the major difference between the two, MCC has a long waiting list but AFL membership appears to have most of the features that the MCC membership has?

How much does it cost to bring a visitor to a game at the MCG with a silver AFL membership?

Pros/cons of both? Just weighing up my options..

One has a 15 year waiting list, the other doesn't.

I thought the MCC Membership was better until recently.
A full AFL Membership costs about $420 per year and gets you into 40 games of your choice and all the NAB Cup games for free.
MCC gets you into all the MCG games for about $550 per year. I am not sure whether you can get into Telstra dome.
The advantage I thought the MCC had was to get into the AFL Grand Final.
It seems that it is not the case.
You can go to the first 3 weeks of the finals by scanning in with the MCC membership, but to get into the Grand Final, you have to go into a ballot.
With AFL Full Membership, you have to be diligent and you will get a Grand Final Ticket.
If your club is playing, you will get a ticket because you can buy it the day before tickets go on sale. Even if you are a neutral supporter, you just have to get early to ticketmaster or this year Ticketek, line up and you should be able to grab a ticket.
I get Grand fInal tickets every year without any problems on a Full MCC Membership.
You also get into the cricket for $15.50 this year and $2.20 for kids.

Im a AFL member ($300) and i find it much better value for money compared to MCC (aBOUT $550)..
Mainly because you can get into the dome and the G,you get to go to 44 games of your choice handy if your partner supports another side to yours and it is $200 odd cheaper a year although the $300 joining fee is a bit steep.

Depends what you are looking for.

AFL is cheaper gets you into the footy the same amount with the added extra of the Telstra Dome. However cricket is extra.

MCC you get the footy, cricket and most other special events at the MCG (AFL members get them?). You also get better seating, history, more bars and restraunts to name a few.

Basicly you choose for your taste. I am personally an MCC member and I lover every moment of it and would not trade it for anything.

I signed up in 1994...only a few months left till I get mine!:)

There's been a freeze on new memberships the last few years. I signed up in 1994 and received my membership in 2006. Thankfully I'm moving to Melbourne (taking a break from packing as we speak) to utilise it more!

Not quite. MCC you go into a ballot for reserved seating, but you get in regardless if you get there early (first in, best dressed for seats). BUT, you do have to be a full member for GF rights... and that takes some time. I'm a restricted member ATM.

Plus you get the added bonus of being booed by the rest of the crowd when the wave passes through the members. :thumbsu:

Doesn't the MCC membership get you into Cricket and other sporting events?

:p

I registered in 96...... on the home stretch! haha

Grats :p

I used to sit there and get free meals when I was younger and did volunteer work with St Johns Ambulance Brigade, I never saw the big appeal to be honest, same as corporate boxes, never liked those other than the free booze.

Each to their own though. :thumbsu:

One gets you into the football, cricket and other limited sporting events at the MCG. The other gets you 50% off admission prices to the Melbourne Film Festival.

As SwampRat has outlined above, this isn't quite right!

MCC voting members can go to the Grand Final just by swiping their card. About half the seating in the MCC Reserve is reserved on the day, and voting members can choose to go into a ballot for one of those reserved seats for a $25 fee.

However, about 12,000 seats, including the prime viewing spots, are filled on a first-in, best dressed basis on Grand Final day and that's why you see people queuing outside the ground for 12 hours.

Essentially, MCC voting members are guaranteed a Grand Final seat, as long as they are prepared to queue to get into the ground from the early hours of the morning.

MCC restricted members are able to go to all sporting events at the ground, but they cannot go to the Grand Final (except when there is a smaller crowd expected, when they can purchase a seat at face value), and they cannot get into the Long Room on Boxing Day.

MCC members of all types get access to all cricket matches at the G, just by swiping their cards. They also get discounted tickets to major events, such as rugby union Tests and soccer internationals at the ground.

Plus, the facilities for MCC members are incredible. More bars than you can poke a stick at, and cafes where they serve real food at half-decent prices.

And as Rohan said earlier, if you haven't seen the Frank Grey Smith bar, you haven't lived.

And don't forget if you're an MCC member, attended on of the better private schools and follow the Dees you can meet your friends in the Long Room (should you be suitably dressed) and share a drink!:D

I have had a AFL membership for about 7 years and its a ripper didnt have to wait 15 years just paid up. Its only about 300 a year after the initial joining fee and the value is terrific I like to just wander up on the day and as long as im a bit early I can always get a good seat. If its a big game I just book tickets.

Never had an MCC membership but am an AFL member and have been so for quite a few years. Also with the 40 game thing for AFL members I am convinced that is not enforced at all, each year I would say that I go to many more games than that.
Question - does the MCC provide any provide any of the membership revenue to the club you support? ie. AFL memberships with club support packages count as members of your nominated club and you get membership privileges.

I'm AFL but from what I can gather.

Dress Code: AFL anything; MCC Must have a collar etc.
Grog: AFL can drink at your seat; MCC you can't
Cricket: AFL half price; MCC Free
Membership: $ to Support Club & AFL Club membership acknowledged; MCC keep all proceeds.
Docklands: AFL yes; MCC No.
Other Events: AFL No; MCC Perhaps? Soccer yes, concerts?
Crossover to public area: AFL Most games; MCC Always.

Obviously the MCC is in a newer stand with better facilities.
They are talking of updateing the GSS by building over the railway line to provide more room.
MCC is probably more prestigious but if you are 90% AFL inclined and less for other sports AFL is probably better value for money.
