What a fine mess this is. I think everyone is entitled to be absolutely furious about what has happened on all sorts of levels.
Hopefully our the president, coach & leadership group can arrive at the correct action to take. There is no easy answers and I am struggling to think of what action is best.
There is a lot of people screaming for heads to roll as was I when I found out the whole situation, however the worst thing that could happen is to over react on passion, anger and media frenzies. If we do this it will end up in the wrong decision one way or the other. I think that happened yesterday when the club reacted so quickly and have ended up with mud on their faces. Let the dust settle then make a decision, why does it have to be rushed?
I thought the theory of making Shaw play as punishment was soft at first. Certainly if it was a fringe player or young player they would have been suspended & hidden from the media glare. Suspending certainly takes the heat off the player & the club. Being important players puts a twist on things. The club are paying big money for them to play so a suspension (unlike a fringe player) penalises the club, supporters & sponsors. Scotty Burns said it best "Bugger him"! I love Scotty Burns. This is a reasoned approach, but I still want some blood by suspending them to teach them a lesson, but perhaps this is not a rational decision.
Also noted with interest they received expert advice from counsellers that it was best practice to keep Heath working rather than suspending. I am thinking the experts have him in their supercoach sides.
So how best to teach them a lesson. Fines, community work etc obviously but both need clauses inserted into their contracts which gives the club some leverage for the future. There has to be more but what will work that sets an example for others at the club? Trading them maybe, but getting rid of Tarrant this way hasn't stopped problems has it?
No easy answers, just difficult decisions.
