Upsets all across the board - except East Burwood and Mulgrave, but EB did lead at every change.

Fancied sides struggling in wet conditions
Interesting that East Burwood played at Central Reserve (presume their home game and I thought was going to be at Box Hill).East Burwood had the new grass put down on their ground 2 weeks ago after the ground surface upgrade..I have been told they hope to play their in July.Biggest issue I would think is the cooler weather but hopefully they get on their ASAP.

On East Burwood’s Facebook page during the week they posted this: IMG_9089.jpeg

Blame the Whitehorse Council for the late notice. The reason given that the ground "might be damaged because of the wet weather". Absolute BS apparently as the ground won't be used to play a game until round 9. This weekend is round 5. The club was informed on Thursday.

Are you referring to Box Hill? That is a disgrace by Whitehorse Council if this happened.Well done to Waverley Blues for helping EB out.

Perhaps getting ahead of myself but are the East Burwood rooms being knocked down at the end of the season which will create more problems for the club in season 2026.Short term pain for long term gain but this year and next will not make it easy for the club if this is true.

That is correct, but the Council, in its wisdom, will bring the old rooms up to standard. What that standard is will be interesting, as the current boarded-up rat-infested storage facility needs more than a coat of paint. Interestingly, many years ago, when EB had the Deakin Devils women's team and sought to get those rooms back for a separate female facility, they were told that they couldn't have them back as a bagpipe band had priority over them. Now that doesn't seem to matter.

After a defamatory Facebook post, the pipe band self destructed in 2016 after being disqualified at the Aust Championships for having banned members as part of their group. They no longer exist and I have no idea about what the rooms have been used for since then.

The Council here are extremely bad. They take your rates and provide no facilities or services, just try to indoctrinate you with their ideology. Politics should keep out of day-to-day operations and Councils should just get on with doing their day-to-day jobs. Mot suburbs in Melbourne are really suffering and especially in the Mulgrave area where the roads and sidewalks all have potholes and cracks and the lawns aren't even mowed on the grounds and ovals.

So even pipe bands have salary cap breaches???

Unfortunately local council is far too often used as a foot in the door for people wanting to get into politics, rather than those who genuinely want to get things done.

Yes, most of the politics at council level is a shambles and more and more of the spend is on indoctrination policies rather than spending on roads, grounds and parks maintenance and services and rubbish collection which should be the stapple for municipal operations.

And then making decisions based on votes in their Ward and not on what would be good for the general community of the council. Look no further than the $68M being spent on Basketball at East Burwood, which just happened to be in the Ward of a former Mayor. I believe the Mayor stated that there were a lot of votes involved, even though I've been told that there is no shortage of courts in Whitehorse. I've also been told that there are to be 3 courts constructed at Forest Hill Shopping Centre, further reducing any need for extra courts.

Waverley Blues to be defeated by Croydon by 1 goal
Heathmont to defeat East Burwood by 7 goals
Templestowe to defeat Lilydale by 5 goals
Mulgrave to defeat Surrey Park by 4 goals
Ringwood to be defeated by Wantirna South by 2 goals

Good luck being able to play on the oval by July.

Laying turf at this time of year is not to best time to get the best results as the cooler weather combined with reduced soil temperatures will see the turf take longer to establish. Sounds like whoever is running the project has no idea. Turf should be laid in warmer times to ensure success. Most sportsfields when reconstructed take a minimum of 9-12 months to establish properly and settle so they can be in optimum and safe condition for use and continued maintenance.

We need to remember this is not an elite facility and Council will not be 'pouring' the resources into it like would happen at the MCG or a similar venue. They would not have the money either to do so.

Sorry but I can see EB not having a home ground in 2025.

The Velodrome Cycle Group uses it as a storage facility. The Rats, or maybe they are Hamsters, now use it as housing. I can see the council's plan of bringing it up to scratch as just another failure for a council that has NFI.

Then the rooms will be demolished in 2027.

Warburton had that issue a few years ago. Grass was laid in record time and even though the landscape contractors who did the work said don't use the oval this year, council / league forced it to be used and the whole lot was wrecked in no time and had to be done again the following year.
