Heard whispers that Box Hill North in crisis mode at the moment. Not going to be able to field 2 sides, likely to drop to 3rds

VAFA on their knees at HQ if true. D3 already a shit show. Wonder if they revisit the restructuring, 2 from D2 could come down, same with D1.

I heard that the VAFA was kicking them out because they refused to allow a Transgender player to register for the women's team.

Wouldn't shock me, melb uni women's used to have a 6'2" 100kg man identifying as a woman running around for them.

After all the back and forth with the initial restructuring at the start of the year, I would be fuming as a D2 being forced to come down. If D3 is falling apart, is the easiest solution just to make a bigger league with more teams rather than trying to keep D3 together?

Challenge would be competitiveness. Hawthorn and wattle park have been relegated in recent seasons, LaTrobe are up and down like most uni sides, Richmond would be strong in the 2s as always…
EP and BHN would either need to drop back to 3rds or merge

Tips for the season?

Richmond to win 1s and 2s for me

Asterisk season. even more so if BHN bail.

Last year of D3 for sure.

I know a flag is a flag but when you win one and they get rid of the division soon after I reckon that would take the gloss off it, same as north brunswick (?) winning the last D4 flag

Heard up to FIVE divisional teams are unsure of being able to get a reserves up consistently.

More will follow to thirds

Always tough this time of year with the crossover from summer to winter sports. Wouldn't be surprised if most clubs get an influx to training this week after players trade the cricket whites for a football jumper.

Zero chance of D3 next year.
what a sad inditement on the vafa to let d3 get to thus stage I wonder if d3 will be around next year

They could've played hard ball and made the clubs who have gone to thirds stay - and keep getting spanked. Or let them die

Alternatively

Should've merged the remaining 6 from D3 into D2 and moved a couple up to D1.

Can't please everybody. More and more clubs will be becoming thirds only if they are allowed to. and Clubs struggling in other leagues could move to the VAFA for thirds only to stay alive.

To make the D3 competition viable for what potentially could be the final season, would the VAFA look at playing some of the very very strong thirds teams and playing them in Div 3? They'd be more than competitive.

It could have allowed Chadstone, Eley Park, Swinburne and now possibly BHN to play with one side for the year and allowed for a more structured competition.

What about reserves you say? The reserves of the remaining sides (WP, Centrals, Hawthorn, AP and La Trobe) could play in the thirds comp for the year. Still play at home when the seniors play at home, just against another side on the weeks they don't play a team that has seniors and reserves in D3.

A crazy idea I know, unfortunately as it stands D3 is going to have 5 sides and when winter hits forfeits will no doubt rear their ugly head.

unfortunately I think VAFA will become a old boy comp for the elite and one or two strong suburban sides as they have never really given a stuff about the lower grades only those with premier in front of the division
