Do Carlton need to undertake a list rebuild?

Really?

There was far too much evidence of lack of chasing and Hawks players breaking tackles to regard Carlton as 'trying hard'.

Hawthorn got out to a comfortable 40 point margin early, and went into cruise control for the remainder of the match, which resulted in a semi respectable final score line for Carlton.
There seemed there was a bit of wanting to "do it for Docherty" from the players, but they just weren't good enough early on. Hawthorn maybe took the foot off the pedal a bit once they'd established a 6 goal margin.

It says a lot to me if that was as good an 'effort' as they could muster (non chasing, far too many tackles broken) in Docherty's farewell game and Weitering's 200th....

What do they need to do?

Because I can't see a way out for them. Their list is FUBARed.

They need to trade some players with value to get some top end draft picks.

They need to come out and sell the rebuild to their fan base.

Keeping the same list and winning 8/9 games next year might keep the wolves at bay but it doesn’t propel them forward.

They have to make the hard decisions as bad as it will feel, but now is not the time to middle with a list like theirs as the Tassie drafts loom.

In what looks to be one of the worst and most compromised drafts of the modern era?

Good luck selling that one.

How can they sell another rebuild? They’ve rebuilt more than Jennings Family Homes.

Rebuild basically means 4 years of being awful. They’ll not justify that.

They either stick with their current list and hope Cripps, Curnow, Walsh, Weitering, etc get reinvigorated, and Jagga and improvement from other youngsters allows them to contend for a position in the bottom half of the top 8, or regress further and resign themselves to bottom 4, in the hope that rebuild v7.0 works better.
Good players are coming down the other side of hill.

It's amazing we are talking about Carlton this way. As a Hawks fan, I was lamenting that we didn't win by more last night when someone reminded me that Carlton were eliminated in the finals last year by eventual Premiers Brisbane. The year before, they played in the Preliminary and were narrowly defeated by Brisbane who went on the lose the GF by 4 points. Not being a Carlton fan and paying them much attention during the year, it just seems ridiculous to be talking about new coaches, rebuilding, etc.

Always entertaining reading a bunch of melts and trolls with no understanding of our list tell us why we have to blow it all up.

Not too long ago they were telling us Silvagni sucked, now the Pies are after him.

Kennedy was apparently a VFL plodder who was 'Parfitt in a different jumper' now he's starring at the Dogs.

Blues apparently have no young talent on our list but every chance to have our 3rd rising star nom for the season this week in HOF and have Jagga and Dean on the way next year too.

I think you need to look a little closer at their results over the last couple of seasons...

We've had a horror year but our team isn't WCE levels of shite. Still plenty capable of putting in a semi competitive performance despite half the list looking completely checked out.

Yeah, 'trolls' who accurately predicted what would become of Carlton in 2025...

Yes, yes they do.

Don't need to burn it to the ground but the ceiling of Plan A has been reached. Are there any moves out there that realistically make Carlton a 14, 15 win team next year? Or is it accepted internally that they aren't contending so focus on 2, 3, 5, 7 years down the track?

If TDK wants to go let him go and pocket the pick. If he wants to say then sign him up.

The issue will be what to do with McKay and Curnow and the other long term contracts. Will moving of the talls this year generate a good enough return to warrant it? There is not much to be gained just dumping say McKay off the books and then carrying on business as usual. Do you keep say Weitering/Curnow/TDK as your spine and try to fire sale the rest? They are 28/28/26 so at an awkward age for being part of a rebuild vs part of a contender. They could try and sell everyone but there are limited buyers for players on big contracts.

I would give up our early second round pick for Cripps but how does that make Carlton better? It's not in our interests to be giving away early firsts for a gun 30 year old and not in theirs to be giving up the club captain just coz. Richmond cashed in on a 27 year old Rioli, a 26 year old Baker and a 26 year old Bolton last year. It can be done but the older players get the smaller the market is.

I liked the idea of a Carlton/Melbourne trade last year. However the terms worked out one of the talls to the Dees and Petracca to the Blues made sense for giving each team a fresh look without throwing out the bathwater. This year it looks like both teams need to do a bit more than swap a player.

Lmao do I need to pull up the posts again or have you finally gone back and deleted them?

What about your prediction of 15th last year when we made the 8?

17th, you were saying?

And I've explained why Carlton's final ladder positions were overstated in both 2023 and 2024, to enable me to accurately forecast Carlton's plight in 2025.

Are Collingwood still no chance of bouncing back to 2022/23 levels?

Anyway Sydney have all their picks and will finish around 9th or 10th. Their key position players are either injured, terrible or both.

I wonder what picks 10 and 30 would buy from the Carlton shop window.
