It's only a praccy match but gee their list of 23 and under is grim.

Looking like a potato farm out there.

Very disappointing to see the Collingwood throw Pendles in the middle to start the last.

To be fair to Collingwood (and all teams), I'm not sure how much can be read into pre-season games/practice games. In fact, I'm actually surprised how much discussion happens in regards to pre-season games that mean absolutely nothing in the scheme of things long term.

The season proper is when it matters.

That’s fair if you’re looking at the mature age players.
In these games you want to see kids showing they can make an impact at AFL level at worst. You’d really expect a few to dominate.

You don’t want a 37 year old starting in the middle in the 4th quarter

You can take a lot out of preseason games, you look at strategy that can be used in season, look at kids who are vying for a best 23 spot. The result doesnt matter but the substance of the game does.

Flag or not in 2023 2026 was always going to be start of the lean years.

I though flag in the bag early on Fly coach.

All she wrote.

When fly took over coach at the Pies i had a flag more in 2024.

2023 always felt we were 1 year ahead of the flag.

2023 was lions then the pies in 2024.

either way i had lions in 2025 to win another in its era.

2023 felt too much too early.

now things as per normal again.

2026 plot and planning times for our next flag.

tipping a 7 or 8 spot finish in 2026.

say middle of the road but play an elimination final be an away one.

pensive 2026 what will be will be going through the motions.

With that said, we'd be pretty happy with a couple of the youngsters then? Is that allowed or do we have to disrespect them all like other posters from oppo clubs (one in particular) do?

Not at all, I didnt watch the Pies preseason game so I cant comment. I was just saying that preseason games have relevance. They do mean something.

I liked what I saw from Steele, Anderson and Allan. Steene was okay in patches along with Cochran. As to the game itself. Who cares? Practice match with most of both teams missing many players. People who get excited about a teams chances during preseason are dumb arses (aka Carlton supporters).

They are not relevant to good teams in terms of their potential performances. They are relevant to bad teams trying to improve their game styles and fringe players trying to earn selection.

None that said pick me.

Well not in your language Jimmy O'Dea, but I'd have thought you'd quite like a roughnut like Anderson? Not enough coward punches or something???
Reckon Steene said, I'm ready to play ruck forward. And it was great to see Harvey H back out there running around again.

Teams like Gold Coast and Bulldogs (who were missing chunks of their team because of SoO), sure... but to think it didnt matter to Craig McCrea who was implementing a faster brand of footy (reported by the media) then it does.
It gives each team (staff and players) an understanding of what worked and didnt against a team that doesnt know what you gameplan is.

Its like your a boxer and you dont spar with an opponant but just shadow box.

Im not for one minute suggestion that the result matters, but the game has relevance to all clubs.

they mean matchpractice
Did i say they were more than that, Im stating they have relevance. To the club, to the coaches, to the players. And to the fans, hope is a power thing for some supporters.

PS Did you watch the practice match?

What was your impression, got the rust off some players? saw some new plays? kids looked promising?
Did you see something McCrea was trying to implement thats going to be exciting when your best 23 are on the park?

you take what you want from it but doesnt mean they arent relevant.
