Been watching the club delistings as I am sure we all have and noticed that the Hawks have delisted Zac Dawson. Now my memory is pretty cactus, but I do recall the Hawks grooming him to be their next full back. I am pretty sure they threw him to the wolves at a very young age and he played on a few champion Full Forwards and got carved up but the Hawks persisted because they were sure he was their man.

Is he worth a look?
Can anyone else remember the wraps on him?

I don't really think we need one right now, try again in 2 years when Bock, Rutten and Stevens are all 27/28

I agree we don’t need a key defender right now but we should be looking at drafting one this year and have him ready for 2 or 3 year down the road.

If we draft Zac 'The Cougar' Dawson I will run over a child in my car in protest to show my disgust.

And I will continue doing so once a day untill we delist him.

Unless he filled a specific need then maybe, but I dont believe hawthorn would have delisted him if he had any talent, its not like they a wealth of backmen.

Not worth a punt, I would consider someone like Todd Grimma to be a more worthwhile punt than someone like Dawson.

How about Ryan Willits.

The game he played against us in 2006 he did well. At Glenelg Mickan played him down back and he seemed a natural FB. Choco wanted him to be a forward meoved him to Westies and is now delisted.

Is only 22, is about 200cm tall strong and is mobile.

As mentioned in the Danny Meyer thread, we really don't need a new thread posing the question of whether we should recruit every dud that has been delisted by another club.

Bock and Rutten are young and in their prime.
If one of them goes down, we still have Stevens.
All the while, Kite is coming through and looking like developing into a good player.

There is absolutely no rush. I'm sure someone will come up in the draft in the next year or two.

Not to mention Moran was drafted as a back up key defender as well.

*Relocates to another 'adult' website and gets is 'hotdog' out and plays with it*.
Definetely need to stay off BigFooty after coming home drunk.

But in proper answer to this thread...we have Gallman, Moran and Kite waiting in the wings behind Bock, Rutten and Stevens.

You should have said footlong German novilty sausage, that would have been far more impressive.

But yeh, Internet + Drunk = :(

but Drunk + running taxi left unatended = :D--------hmm, why'd I do that?:)--------Sir, please get off my lawn:(

If a team that desperately needs key backmen more than anything else delisted him, then surely he is rubbish. Not that I needed the confirmation. I wouldn't be against drafting a KPB, but really Kite & Moran are ample support to the huge Rutten, Bock & Stevens core. Gallman is a bit too short, but can play as a 3rd tall as well. Not to mention the plethora of failed forwards options. We're definitely nowhere near picking up delisted hacks stage.

IMO the Crows are right for Key defenders

Bock and Truck will hold down the two key defensive post for yeats to come

Stevens is an ideal third tall, Moran is another that can be considered as a third tall if required (not too many sides play three quality tall forwards these days)

Kite and Gallman IMO should be groomed as mid sized defenders

Symes and Petrenko are likely small running defenders, Moss is another that is suited across HB and lets not forget Stiffy

Dangerfield is another that might be worth considering playing across HB in his first season

plenty of options :thumbsu:

we have plenty of potential key back men. or as they are also known: failed forwards ;)

This has been a gripe of mine for ages...our backline is good because that's where they have stacked the quality players.

Recruit a defender - he doesn't have to be massive like Rutten , but just be able to check a player and spoil ! Then maybe we could move some of our forwards who are currently playing in defense, BACK to the forward lines!

Bock, Rutten, Johncock, McLeod, and Stevens all played forward roles in the past.

Just a thought.....

Only Stevens and Macca are true forwards, ie actually lead for the ball and create space to work in.
