He hasnt really been doing much better with you guys. He is still on his average of 2 goals a game which isnt that great.

actually, that's wrong. 2 goals a game for marking medium forward is a very good return, as you'll see if you look around the league.

So what you are saying - I think - is that despite a player still being capable of contributing to the team - perfoming well enough to be included every week - the club should delist them to let the young untried guys have a go.

Sorry mate - a bird in the hand ......

Robran, Jarman, Crowell, Jamieson all retired - they were not flicked.

Crowell is only 29 now- why would he just "retire" over 5 years ago

mate a bird in the hand analysis is silly in this situation what keep Welsh till he is 50 ?.

you were a Fan of Welsh I understand, i'm a fan of AFC, they did the right thing by the club and thank god they did.

I reckon the bloke who kicked 34 goals in 12 1/2 games till his knee exploded had every chance of doing so.

you mean the bloke who second preference in that role to Welsh when we had a choice?

the one we preferred to play on the wing, given a choice? that one? :p

Welsh up forward + Burton on the wing > Welsh on the wing + Burton up forward.

Crowell retired because of a chronic knee injury I think.

true.

Welsh up forward + Burton on the wing >>>>>>>> Burton up forward + spare parts on the wing.
True.

Irrelevant as far as your 'second preference' comment goes, but true.

Would be very handy now. Disappointing part for us is that 2007 was his best year for us. Had matured. Did it when it counted. Single-handedly won a game v Carlton in Melbourne with his accurate kicking under pressure. Welsh would be an interesting case study into what age a forward line player is in their prime. Experience continues to be an under-rated commodity.
