Billy Mitchell lol so many great characters in that doco
Want to know the hilarious bit? The director's said that Billy Mitchell is made to look like a MUCH better guy in the doco than he is in real life. Apparently he's a complete psycho control freak.

This was one posted on the Health and Fitness board

You would want to be interested in that sort of thing, it goes for almost an hour and a half, but it's a doco that should be shown to all school kids. It probably won't change too many of them, but it is healthy education.

Finally got around to watching this and its a must watch for all I think

It isnt hard to grasp (though I have a basic level of understanding of the topic) and imo was very easy to get through.

I stopped drinking sugar drinks a while ago, but theres still a lot of fructose in my diet that I need to work on

I downloaded an episode of BBC's Horizon called "To Infinity and Beyond"...

It quite literally blew my mind, I think I re-watched it 3 times.

WARNING: Pondering infinity will hurt your brain.

watched this as well, there were a few actual mind blowing moments in it, it was a fun documentary to watch

The Sorrow and the Pity (1969): It's rare something can hold my attention for 4 hours. This succeeded. Really does a good job depicting a diverse and thorough pov of individuals affected by the German occupation of France in WW2. Differing opinions and anecdotes from collaborators and resistance members, Germans and English. From the banal to the brutal it was really effective in it's use of interview and historical footage. Gave me a wider understanding of the political context and reasons of why there were many who chose to collaborate. The common people's testimony felt no less important than those of a higher standing. Very interesting and thought provoking stuff.

Watched Blackfish last night, another great watch

When We Were Kings - Ali and Foreman's Rumble in the Jungle fight.
Who Killed the Electric Car
Walmart, The High Cost of Low Prices
Tour Of Duty Australias Hidden War
SASR The Search For Warriors

The Imposter

Capturing the Friedmans (2003)
Dear Zachary A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)
The Imposter (2012)

Anyone seen:

Discovery Channel We Built This City

I saw the episode on New York but JB HiFi didn't seem to have any episodes available. I like cities so I found it interesting.

GREAT MUSIC CITIES OF THE WORLD

http://www.foxtel.com.au/whats-on/foxtel-insider/max-where-music-lives-169979.htm

Was on Foxtel and I never got to see any of them. Unfortunately also not at JB HiFi.

Open Mike

Would mind if JB HiFi started stocking this series.

Capturing the Friedmans

yeah, but the son pays for the sins of their father, like it was put forward, all entirely innocent, and I think they even took apart repressed memory which has little or nil scientific backing in the psychiatric literature, but he gave a veiled admission of holiday hijinx behind dunes.

Think may have been a little anti-semitism going on, that dykie investigator was scaring, she would have castrate me with mere words. Makes you wonder when you have a judicial wing like these invistegaters so certain beyond doubt do buy this from mere children.

Felt most sorry for the son who did time. Think Oprah had a program on this in the early 90s, and the hugh and cry was palpable from here. May well have switched the trial to Salem from Long Island or rhode Island or wherever they were

SPOILER ALERT

I found out after I watched this doco that the doco makes were trying to strongly insinuate the son was innocent and this was a shocking miscarriage of justice. When I watched it with my wife we were both "yep, dirty nonce is guilty". I knew there was a bent towards implying not guilty but not to the extent I found out afterwards.

1. The first thing I noticed was the older brother. I had no preconceptions about the film so at first didn't know what direction it would take. Then as the onion is peeled we find out he is a kids party clown. Hello! Pedo alert!

The other important parts I noticed are these:

2. We know the Dad had a stash of kiddy pr0n inside the house. He's a pedo. The older brother is carrying on like he's outraged his Dad has been found guilty. Firstly, his Dad is in possession of magazines of pedophilia. Children's lives were ruined and he's looking at it - a crime in itself. On top of that it's not a far stretch to strongly suspect he has at some stage been active.

So it not only bothers me that he dresses up as a clown for kids parties, but he's outraged his Dad has been found guilty.

3. The Mother. The Mother suggested the Dad and Son plead guilty. Why would she do this? The doco makers make out she is being a bitch and that it is to avoid being wrongfully convicted and getting a much higher sentence. The eldest son (Mr Bubbles the Clown) attacks, maligns, and estranges his Mother for doing this. He blames her.

4. The Dad. He pleads guilty. Why would he plead guilty if he didn't do it? His body language throughout the whole doco suggests he is philosophical about the whole ideal. On one hand he knows he's guilty, on the other he doesn't believe he has done anything wrong.

5. The youngest son. He pleads guilty. Why would he plead guilty if he didn't do it? His body language throughout the whole doco suggests he doesn't believe he has done anything wrong.

So what has probably happened here

The Dad was a child molester. He didn't just molest kids on family vacation, but he molested his own sons. At least 2 of them are pedophiles, most likely the eldest son as well, and possibly the middle son who didn't speak in the doco.

The youngest son was allegedly violent and mean during the assaults in the computer class. Why? Maybe built up anger from being molested by his Dad. He is inflicting the pain (with interest) he endured upon to others.

The eldest son is angry at his Mum, not because she suggested they plead guilty to something they were innocent of (as he suggested in the doco) but because he too thinks they were doing nothing wrong and the Mother wrecked it for them. He seems to treat it as if the Dad and his three kids were watching the footy and then that mole faced bitch Mom called the power company and asked them to turn the power off. Kiddies got hurt here.

The Mum possibly had no idea, or was in denial that her husband was a pedophile. Once the truth came out bit by bit she realised she married a pedophile who was never really interested in her but was interested in kids, and that he molested some of their family friends' kids, even worse molested her kids, and even worse again indoctrinated her kids into the world of pedophilia.

A tragic situation.

If anyone is in doubt as to the son's guilt, have a read of this:

Capturing the Friedmans (2003)
Dear Zachary A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)

Dear Zachary is, IMO, the best documentary ever made. Best watched without knowing anything about it. Capturing the Friedmans is, also, awesome.

I would add Anvil: The Story of Anvil, if you after something lighter.

The Act of Killing if you prefer depressing (and bloody weird).

The Gatekeepers if you want to learn about Israel.

Spellbound. About the US spelling bee. Gripping and funny.

And, yep, King of Kong is brilliant.

I bought King of Kong years ago from JB HiFi but must have deleted it as I never got around to watching. Bought another copy and watched it today as had hangover.

Billy Mitchell is awesome. A real life Shooter McGavin. So many good quotes. So many good suit and tie combos. And the hair. Business/party combo.

If that is the one about the battle to get the highest score on Donkey Kong, then yeah it's fantastic.

West of Memphis

Just on this, I prefer the 3 part Paradise Lost series made in 96, 2000 and 2011 respectively. It's so interesting because you can see the changes in perception over time.

On crime documentaries, Into the Abyss is a great doco from Werner Herzog about a death penalty case in America.

The Thin Blue Line is worth a watch too.

Recently saw the Kill Team as well, powerful story about the insane mentality of some American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Murderball - wow

About wheelchair rugby. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

When is australia hosting this - it's awesome! I knew a guy who went to the 2004 paralympics to play in australia's wheelchair rugby team.

Saw it recently too after years of having heard good things. Would have to say it's one of my favourites. Mark Zupan is a beast.
