Thought it'd be interesting to get people's opinions and perhaps see how it pans out throughout the finals series.

Perhaps it's a foregone conclusion ala norfs situation, or perhaps he'll show he's still a very valuable contributor. I must say, I have no idea. We have plenty of kids hungry for opportunities, so on that basis I feel like he's really up against it, but who knows.

I thought he was gone until the Richmond game, so it will be interesting to see how he goes playing against real opposition.
For the sake of sentimentality, I'd love to see him do well and hopefully win a flag with us. I'll never forget the sight of him sitting on the bench tearing up when he did his hammie in the final against the Crows.

3 or 4 more cracking games from him and see how trade week pans out, I reckon.

Considering how inexperienced we are (and with Teddy leaving) there could be a role for him on the list just to help the rookies along.

McGlynn's been a great competitor and given his all for the club, but his overall performance this year has been well below that of previous years. From a list management perspective I'd think this year would be the time to delist McGlynn, enabling us to bring in another kid via the draft. There is no obvious need for us to keep him, other than sentimentality and the fact he's well liked by the fans.

No.

Unless it is at minimum wage with the understanding he is playing NEAFL as a playing assistant coach and Shaw wants that.

Possible critical injury coverage is the only reason to keep him. And I mean critical.

I'm in the "No" camp. But if there is a spot on the list & he is happy with the above scenario, no problem!

If we win the flag, I see Benny either retiring or being delisted.

If not, it's less certain, but to create salary cap room - still probably wouldn't.

So really hope we are winners on GF day.

Surely it is dependent on how he plays in the finals? If he has a good finals series and wants to play on, why wouldn't he get another year on what I'd imagine would be a fairly modest contract.

If his finals series is just meh, he may look to retire himself. A flag would probably seal the deal for retirement, unless he really burns it up...

There's probably value to keeping older, declining players on the list provided they don't take up too much cap space and they don't impede player development. They'll likely be better depth than some rando late draftee.

But it doesn't seem to happen much.

No. His time has passed. His only good game this year was against Richmond. We also don't want to inhibit the progress of Papley, Rose, etc. Even if he has a good finals series we still need to keep turning over the older players.

I really felt for him in 2012 but he had his chance to make amends in 2014 and he failed just like several other players on the team. If he's happy to stay another year on minimum wage and play in the NEAFL then I'm happy for him.

This.

I think he'll retire if he wins a flag.

& This.

I think a lot depends on this finals series and not necessarily his own performance but that of the young brigade. The most ideal result would be that he wins a flag and a Norm Smith Medal. Anything after that I wouldn't care much about for a while.
Agree with that. But posting mainly to congratulate you on being a Banyo Blood.

Wouldn't think so. Flag or not. He had a cracker against a team that didnt give a shit.

Unfortunately not. Every game he has to play like it's his last, because if he doesn't, it will be. I think people have underestimated him this year at times and overestimated Papley's development, but it's been shown that you can only have one of them in the 22 and from next year, that'll be Papley. I'm happy for him to have first crack at the finals this year though.

Hopefully retire rather than delist. More our style. With a premiership.

I think we all want him to win a flag. Also to thank Thomas Bugg when he accepts it on GF day
