Watching him live the last couple of weeks, I've come to respect the way he gets into position, as a defender. But with his kicking it amounts to almost nothing.

So I'm not for giving up on him yet. It seems to be psychological--always in a total rush and fluffing it, or taking all the time in the world and getting clipped on the kick. That kind of psychological thing can be worked out with experience. 41 games is kind of a grey area. Thinking of Welsh makes me think that we should keep him on.

His spot in the team would have to be in jeopardy.

Not just based on tonight's performance, but his performances in previous NAB Cup matches also told me that he hasn't improved all that much, if at all from last season. Nice kicking action, solid footy brain; That is all. He isn't quick, hasn't got much of a defensive side to his game and he gets kind of lazy with his kicking on a regular basis. But he has had a few teammates that also match the above description, so I won't be too harsh just yet.

Just about everyone had shit footskills tonight, so it may be a little unfair on Nash but i agree, his spot in the side is looking less certain each game he plays.

He'll be given opportunity in the side early on, but i can't see how he'll keep his spot in the side if he doesn't show significant improvement.

He hits a targret once in a blue moon. Funny thing was his first season he was fine but it's been down hill from there. As he has good skills with more experience he could iron out his lack of efficiency which i believe is decision making under pressure or pressure he perceives.

Looks great on the training track with no pressure, but during a game goes to water. Will be worried if he plays more then 3 games.

no good, but his just 1 of 18 blokes that cant kick..seriously in all my time i cant remember an essendon team with so many players that cant kick. it should be the most basic skill in footy

I think Nash is more suited to an attacking wide receiver type of role. Sort of like camporale....hurting teams kicking the ball into attack, instead of being under pressure down back. Free him up a bit and hopefully it works in our advantage.

He does have a beautiful kicking action and when he is on, it is great.

I've had these concerns since the beginning of last year. He has a great kick but I think over caresses the ball when he is trying to pass it mid/short and fluffs it. How many times do you see a Jay Nash kick trickle along the ground at the ankles of players. That simply isn't good enough.

It is clear that him and Dempsey are fighting for the same spot. The difference between the two is that Nash goes in harder than Dempsey. On 3 seperate occasions last night in the 2nd quarter Dempsey either pulled out of a contest or put in a half arsed effort (e.g. the shitty one arm effort to mark on the wing). Knighta won't have liked that one iota and it's not good enough if you are going to be playing as a half back / sweeper.

There are two things that I can't accept from an AFL side...blatant clangers under no pressure and piss weak attack on the footy. Those two are non excusable but were evident last night from a few players.

We have better optoins for the HBF so he needs to be put in a new posistion, but where?
He would do well on the wing, but we have a few wingers. Maybe they should try him as a tagger while welsh is out. Teach him to be defensive the hard way.

1. Bit hard to hurt teams going into attack when you are such an terrible kick of the football.

2. He is never on.

I seem to recall being shot down by quite a few posters last season when i said the guy cant kick to save himself. Apparantly having an ok action equated to being a good kick of the pill.
