To be honest, I told my partner that today was a loss as soon as I saw the team sheet.

In: Murphy.

BT early in the game: "He was the medical sub last week. He didn't like that very much."

I don't give a **** if he hated it or detested it or felt it was beneath him. It's what he deserved for the lack of intent and purpose he has played with and put on display once again in a winnable game last week.

He needed to be named as the medical emergency this week. If he failed in his intent and purpose he gets dropped to the VFL. Instead, he was rewarded with senior selection.

What message does that send to every other player on the list? It tells them that doing the bare minimum, and showing up, is enough to warrant a selection ahead of those who are putting in the hard work and fighting for their careers and every opportunity that they get.

Not good enough.

He's been able to get to 300 by not putting his body on the line.

Disagree with this vehemently. There was a period of 8 seasons or so where every time he played I held my breath waiting for him to be hit again.

You don't come back from the types of injuries that he's endured and overcome if you don't put your body on the line regularly.

Say what you will about his past couple of seasons (I'm right there with everybody else) but prime Murphy put his head and body over the ball as much as we could have asked for.

That was 10 years ago , seriously come on , this obsession to continually defend this guy is beyond a joke

My point was, he will get to game 300 because he has refused to put his body on the line from about game 250 onwards.....

Actually, you're wrong. He deservedly won our best and fairest less than five years ago.

After getting crunched by Danger in 2012 and Hodge in 2013, his physicality has not been good. And his last few years, embarassing.

Ask any opposition supporter what they think of him, and the word SOFT will be a consistent theme.

Keep him as medical sub for the rest of the year.

Imagine not playing your 300th game!

I do not disagree with this. His physicality has weakened over the years. That much is fact. However, his lack of physicality is not the reason why he will get to 300 games.

Saying so is disrespectful to the player that Murphy was in his prime years and the sheer amount of injuries he has had to overcome to get there.

Does he deserve to get there? Not on current form and intent.

Oh that must of been a successful year !! Where did we finish on the ladder ??last or 2nd last and he got gifted votes

seriously mate I don’t want to get into , he doesn’t derserve to be playing and do you think it was ok what he did last year when he carried Gibbs off ?? When our season was shot ??do you think it ok what he said on Friday on national tv how he deserves 300
Games ??

I was have the opinion that he had one more year left in him.

Just didn’t see a position for him when he was re-signed and it was going to take away a position from someone that could play HFF better.

Thought his form last year was a pre-cursor to what is on display again this year. Poor decision but granted with the lure of 300.

Did anyone else notice Murphy went to kick the ball off the ground when he should have put his head over it and picked it up. He missed the ball completely and it went out of bounds. Murphy turned around with a smile on his face. Sums up most of his career. A complete squib.

Does not deserve to sit in the same company as the other 300 game players at our footy club

I missed that one because I was still in awe of his first few disposals of the game. His first two kicks were straight into the man on the mark and soon after that he streamed away through the centre and “bombed” a kick into forward 50 which was a scrubby 30 metre kick which was easily intercepted.

The only reason he is playing is to get him to 300 and because he has been “loyal”.... you know, because the calendar rolls over to the next year and the next year and the club keep giving him contracts. I would argue that if he asked and received a trade 5 years ago, he wouldn’t be playing AFL football today, he’d be made to earn his spot. Marc Murphy knows that Carlton are the perfect club for him, who will always select him. That’s loyalty from the clubs end, there is no denying that.

Murph does not deserve to be in the 300 club. He must earn that privilege. He is playing like a bloke scared of being injured, at the moment.
For a bloke of his experience to be ineffective in pretty much every game he has played in recent times, is woeful.
Needs to put his head over the footy again, not turn his back on the play as often as he does and stop these nothing 35m pitching wedge kicks. Oh, and helping to defend when we don't have the ball would be good too.
Thanks for your service Murph, but time to hang 'em up.
