Ok here is the Doig Medal Top 10

Doig Medallist: Aaron Sandilands (132)
Runner-up: Matthew Pavlich (112)
Third place: Chris Tarrant (89)
Fourth place: Paul Duffield (75)
Fifth place: Paul Hasleby (68)
Sixth place: David Mundy (68)
Seventh place: Stephen Hill (62)
Eighth place: Greg Broughton (52)
Ninth place: Garrick Ibbotson (43)
Tenth place: Steven Dodd (35)

It is great to see some younger blokes in there and I reckon the top 10 is fair enough but.......
A few players on our list should be " hanging " their heads in shame today. Guys like Luke McPharlin and Byron Schammer in particular have more talent than many but are just plain and simple under achieving. McPharlin in particular has more talent than all our top 10 bar maybe Pav and Sandi and possibly is our biggest disappointment ever. If we are going to go forward next year and in 2011 he needs to show career best form and consistency. His move up forward has been a failure and I reckon we need to do one of 2 things next year.
Either he needs to go back to CHB permanently or Pav needs to be used as a permanent forward so he takes oppositions best defender to free up Luke. McPharlin simply isnt good enough or consistent enough as a forward to win games for us regularly as things stand. He would be AA CHB if left their in my opinion
Schammer on the other hand I thought had a really good 1st half of the year (probbaly our 2nd best mid behind Pav) but then fell in a hole in the 2nd half of the year. Not sure if he was playing injured but we desperatley need him to step up andbecome a top liner next year
Anyway thats my beef for the day. Any thoughts?

Or both? If McPharlin goes back though, I'm not sure who plays CHF, assuming Pav at FF. Michael Johnson?
Also, Dodd in the top 10 is amazing. How bad we must be.

Bradley/Johnson at CHF??

Even Clarke could come in and play CHF...

Dare i say Murphy??? ;)

Obviously Pav could play there, but then we need a FF. We are missing 1 class KP player from a really good spine. Johnson would be my best hope, but he'd need to bulk up a fair bit.

Morabito in a couple of years?

If you watch the start of the Sydney game this year in the first play Johnson leading out of the forward line... sexy!!

Is pretty quick when on the lead and we all know he can take a mark so a forward line of;

HF: Headland Johnson Hill
F: Ballantyne Pavlich Mayne

Looks pretty dangerous.

In the first half of the year Schammer would of been in the top 5 in B+F imo. Not sure what happened in the second half of the year ( he did miss 3 games with a calf injury) but at least his disposal has improved.

His best is very good but can go missing alot, and we all know he can butcher the ball ( this has improved though)

Do we need one? Pav's our tall target, Mayne is a decent marking small and Ballantyne is the crumber. If Des can actually get on the park he can roam forward, as can Hill. Sandi and Hase can kick goals resting down there as well.

Johnson might be good as a surprise move once every 8 weeks, same with McPharlin. But both are not effective as permanent forwards.

People complain about Dodd a lot because of poor skills, decision making etc. but perhaps we need to get off his back - if this is proof of anything it's proof that he is simply doing the job the coaches ask of him.

The criteria for the B+F isn't just a B.O.G sort of thing I don't think, its to do with players filling their roles in the game and getting a rating based on that. Perhaps we need to lay off him if this is the case? Unlike the rest of you I don't mind him, so I'm happy to stick up for him occasionally.

I agree Doddy is an easy target and more often than not gets tough jobs and generally does them pretty well. Especially given that our defence is always under siege.
But having said all that for a guy like him with limited natural talent to be higher up than Luke McPharlin and Byron Schammer in Club Champion award shows that we need more out of those type of players as they have plenty of natural talent. For us to go forward we need all the guys to lift say 5% but the likes of McPharlin and Schammer it is more like 25%

Is it fair to assume there are threads on Bay 13 ridiculing us for having guys like Mundy and Dodd in the top 10?

Does anyone know the criteria used to decide?
