I've got a mate that drinks pretty heavily by himself. He'll watch a movie or a game of footy or whatever at home and just polish off a bottle of wine and a few beers like it's normal. I might have one or two beers at home, but that's about it.

How do people feel about playing golf alone? I play golf about once a year anyway but if I had free time mid week and felt like a round I wouldn't think it was weird to play 9 holes by myself.

Going to the beach alone is perfectly normal. Going shopping alone is perfectly normal.

Eating a meal alone depends on the context. I'll go and grab a cafe lunch during work or a counter meal/hotel restaurant meal if away by myself, but if I'm home by myself I won't ring up and make a reservation somewhere. 99% of the time I'll just get takeaway or cook something.

I've been 'out' a few times alone but never in Perth. I'd rather just stay home and watch Fox Sports or whatever than head into the city or Northbridge solo. The only times I've headed out alone is when I've been in a foreign place and alone and there's nothing else to do. I don't think I've ever been out for more than 2 or 3 drinks without being out alone turning into being out with other people I met along the way. The idea of going out for a big night without really talking to anyone seems weird to me.

Yeah I remember when I went to Melbourne, I was wandering around by myself to various bars and clubs on a friday/saturday night. Have to say, It really isn't much fun doing those things by yourself. You need a drinking buddy, or someone to at least talk to and maybe help you to talk to other people (as I'm quite reserved).

I couldn't imagine shopping with other people, then again I'm a bloke. It seems incredibly weird for two male friends to go out shopping together.

It's tedious when the other person(s) are browsing at shit they definitely aren't going to buy.

What is everyone's thoughts on going for long walks alone?

I was walking with a female friend not long ago and she says that she never walks alone (which in itself I could probably understand) but I know a few other people who just couldn't handle walking for ages by themselves.

About once a month I usually take long walks on the weekends, walking up to 4-5 hours in the afternoon with nothing but my iPod and a backpack for food and water. i find it so relaxing and refreshing to get out of the house, enjoy some sun and take a look at the scenery by the river. The endorphins (or whatever they're called) that your brain releases from walking can often change your mood completely if you are feeling down.

I used to review films, which my gf at the time couldn't always make, so I got used to going alone. Movies aren't exactly meant to be social occasions; once the lights go down, it's time to shut up for two hours. I travelled alone once, not a problem, though it's generally more fun when with someone else. Eating alone in a casual environment is fine, would seem weird at a proper restaurant. I can't really go the pub or gigs by myself, feel like those are more social places and seem self-conscious on my own.

Travelled a fair bit solo and enjoy going to the footy by myself. Not scared of eating alone either, and I'm definitely a fan of having a solo pint or two when knocking off some uni work, or opportunistically seeing a nice pub after your errands are done on a nice day.

Gabe Tostee used to go out clubbing and 'pulling' too, which is a good sign that's relatively psychotic.

Yep, I'm sure you choose to do all these things alone, buddy

As a not-so-good golfer, I love playing by myself. I find it takes the pressure off my game and can relax more as I know that playing poorly isn't going to hold anyone up, which causes me to spend too much time inside my head. There's a certain serenity to it.

A mate of mine shoots solo a few times a week as he is adamant it's the only way he improves.

I quite often go for walks/jogs on my own, actually prefer doing that on my own as you can just go at your own pace.

I could understand why some females might be reluctant to go for a walk or jog on their own though, especially in secluded parks or bushland.

This thread is weird.
Why are people being dictated to what they can and can't do based on if they have a posse of mates tagging along at all times.

Movies alone is the best. So relaxing especially the day sessions when u have a pretty empty theatre.
Besides like others have said you don't talk at movies an if you do You're an arseh*le.

Shopping along is fine and normal. It's an errand who has mates at their Beck and call to go get groceries an shit lol.

Cafe alone is normal.
Read the paper have a coffee figure stuff out.

Restaurants alone is okay if it's enjoyable to that person.
Personally wouldn't bother myself but I wouldn't patronize those who do.
Maybe they just really love food and didn't want to wait for someone else to be available.

I would never go for a walk on my own

Funny this thread has popped up at such an apt time for me.

I just moved to Brisbane, Monday to Friday for work and it's something I've had to get to grips with much more. Not knowing anyone I've been forced to go out alone so much more and I'm starting to really like it. No putting up with someone else's bullshit is a dream.

Not to take this thread off topic, but I moved to Brisbane a couple of years ago not knowing anyone. How are you finding it?

I love the city, really taking a warming to it like nowhere else. I've made a couple of friends quickly through Meetup groups and Social Sport which has helped. I also love the weather and sunlight - exercise in the morning is a breeze compared to Melbourne and it's still nice enough after work to go for a quick dip in the apartment pool.

PM me if you want to talk more I guess!

Where are people walking that they won't go on their own? I'll walk the dog at 10pm in Summer if I feel like it and he's hardly a Doberman.

I could understand girls not wanting to walk/run at night or in dodgy places but not at all is odd.
Well I work during the day so if I'm going for a walk it's at night.
