Thats what i heard aswell. I know people will disagree with me but i think we should have traded Jolly, keep Schnieder and use Currie as our 2nd Ruckman next year.

He's not even that great especially not $500,000 a year, could have tried a three way swap and sent Jolly to Collingwood and we could have got Wood from Brisbane and the lions would get pick 14. Instead we lose Scnieder our cult hero!

um, i think you mean first ruckman, since statistically he's a better performer in ruck than peter everitt (more hitouts in 2007, leading hitouts in 2006).

and the fact that he (paired up with an inexperienced doyle, no experienced ball) led us to the grand final where main ruck duties were put singularly on his shoulders says a lot about his importance and value to the team.
with the addition of peter everitt sydney has the best ruck duo, but dont under appreciate the value of darren jolly to the team,
having a great midfield first comes with someone supplying the ball to us,
losing that would make us a st. kilda, a good 4 or 5 positions down the ladder than we are now.
as much as i love schneider its obvious he has been a much more regular contributor to the team than schneider has, and in a much more irreplaceable and important role.


without his combined ruck duties, we'd be slipping faster down the ladder than you can say 'oops'

Tough call really.. Personally my feelings towards him arent that great, his timing with decision making in the past regarding the club have been at best poor. Is he worth 5 hunge a year? Vs Do i want to see him get paid 5 hunge?
both answers are no.. BUT.. without him were in trouble, he knows it, the club knows it, and most of us know it..
Great at hit outs, thats about it really, imo spida for an old timer (in footy terms) has shown him what good ruckmen are about, pity hes not 5/6 years younger..

Fair call Rancid, the writings on the wall.. I would like to see him improve alot this year too, there is now alot of expectation on his shoulders, i hope he delivers, and starts to move around the ground more and use his size to advantage, Spida was a great pick up, not only for us but him too..

I concur wholeheartedly.Mate if anything he owes the club with that apalling effort in the 2006 GF.His Mrs called the shots last year and that media beat up 6 days before the game about being at the birth and not the game!!!!
Cox was laughing his head off as he galavanted around the MCG with no physical opposition from Jolly at all.Id rather bring back Bally out of retirement than put up with anymore insipid efforts from him over the next 4 years.If they were prepared to give him 4 years and a payrise why not trade him offer Charman 4 years and the same money and all of a sudden youve got a top ruckman with the desire and aggression to lead his side to a Premiership and also would fit right into the Bloods ethos.

Hes not that far off, its his work rate really that stops him being a star. Sure his not game winner yet, but he has the makings.. If he gets more fit and perhaps drops a few kgs and starts getting around the ground more, weve done well for the next 4 years.
Wood, would not keep us in the race for premierships, we got our own developing ruckman, who will get his chance soon enough..
Look, i dont like the guy either, but we will go backwards without him.. i expect him to get more fit, and embrace the club more and be apart of it, instead of an outsider. Especially for the money hes now on.

Agree if Swans are going to get close to playing in a Gf again,Jolly would have far more input into this as a specialist position player of greater importance to the side than an inconsistent soft opportunist forward that was never going to be a midfielder.No problem with schneider going.Credit where credit is due though, he certainly played his part in winning the flag in 05 and deserves his place in Swans history.Sorry though,dont agree with Jolly earning the right to negotiate his contract to the point he has.Know these guys do this for a living and have to do the best for themselves and their family but his performances havent warranted the type of money he is rumored to be getting.Quite simply he has held the club over a barrel by saying i want to go back to Melbourne.Sorry mate,HE IS important,but i just cant cop him and will always doubt his dedication and loyalty to the cause.

Ive said all i want to say about Jolly and im not going to bag him anymore,as he is a Swans player and we shouldnt bag our own.Although they frustrate us at times these blokes always try their best for the club,themselves and their supporters.Not all of them can be Brett Kirk or Paul Kelly who have set standards of loyalty and dedication to the club that makes it very difficult to live up to let alone a player like Jolly who come to the club from another instead of starting there and knowing the culture of the club from day one. So im off his back from this point on !!!!

as far as i'm concerned - and i know others will hold opposing views - it's a business, he's a player we require, he markets himself and we either pay the price or let him go....i think we did the right thing, whatever the amount of money
by that, i mean we paid the price he asked.....
if the $500,000 is in fact true, i still don't see it as that exorbitant when you consider what someone like a brett deledio or a marc murphy might be on (and what they're on i have no idea, but i'd be willing to bet it's not a long way short of 500k a season)

exactly. you cant commit someone by one bad game they played,
and them playing professional footy doesn't mean they cant have a life at all
committing him for demanding his pay is like what people are bashing chris judd for doing,
as its their only profession, doesn't it seem a little reasonable to get whatever they can from it? its their job, like everyone else has their own job. if you can get the money, wouldn't you?

Salary cap isn't a magic pudding.

It we wanted to sign Mattner up to a lucrative three year contract we had to make space. Not exactly as if we have had any players retiring freeing up space.

Buchanan & Schenider was more than likey the only area where we had players competing for one spot where we could get some value in trading.

We seem to forget that the guy was 24 when he had a life changing experience.. so stop being selfish. For all the natural talent that Schneider has.. he's only shown glimpses of brilliance.

We have an abundance of talent thru the middle...

So let's all look towards '08.

Plus in all the carping on about Jolly's performance that day, people never seem to bring up the fact that he badly injured a finger just a couple of days before the WCE QF. He didn't play well at all throughout the finals series but that may have been because of that injury, the fact that the three games he played were against two of the harder men to ruck against (Cox and a very in-form at the times Sandilands) and/or due to his personal situation.
