So not the wee hours of the morning.
Didn’t know there was such a thing, MG!
Here on BF for example: in the top RH corner next to search button there is a 'light globe'. If you click on that you can put your screen into night mode (reverse)
It's much easier on the eyes. The white/blue screen is stimulating and actually effects your sleep.
You can also set your tablet and phone to go into night mode from say 8pm to 7am (go to settings)

Checking my laptop, I can do the same with it. There is a night light in settings. I'll give it a go. Getting to sleep is generally not such a problem. It's staying asleep that troubles me. Returning to sleep is an impossibility though that realisation doesn't stop me trying every night. Trump supposedly only sleeps for 4 hours and so did Maggie Thatcher, but I am not sure that's company I want to keep.

Have you tried listening to an audible book? Works for me.

I have had a chronic sleep problem for 5 years which is getting worse. I sleep at best 3-4 hours, then when I wake I never get back to sleep, so lie awake from 3-4 am on thinking about everything negative that is happening in life. I rise between 8 - 8.30 am. I now fear going to bed because of the inevitable short sleep and waking hours that make the day seem something to be endured due its extra hours.

I have a doctor who rightly or wrongly over the years has prescribed several different types of pills within the benzodiazepine family which are now useless as sleep aids but I have become psychologically dependent on taking anyway. I don't abuse them but I do take them nightly. I am going to ask the doctor tomorrow for an anti-depressant to see if that offers some relief because the whole situation is becoming intolerable.

I cannot sleep in the daytime. I tried a private sleep clinic but was immediately sceptical of the approach and never returned. The one thing I did take away and implement was the advice to go to bed late e.g midnight and beyond. I have discussed this problem before on bf and got lots of thoughtful advice but none of it worked. My ability to read and write has become affected as my concentration levels are down.

Now with age and covid there is even more to keep my mind occupied in the many dark hours at my disposal. Frankly, I see no light at the end of a tunnel which in turn seems to be growing longer. Many of us have a cross to bear, and I guess not sleeping has become mine. I am actually amazed at how little sleep a body can have but still continue to function.

Does it work?
Just as well as any placebo - if you believe in it.

But if you have doubts about something developed by a guy in the 1930s based on how holding different flowers made him “feel”, then it might not be as effective.

i suggest you try it yourself TGG. It’s actually made from flower essences and can be very effective. The fact that it’s been around for so long gives it credibility. I, and my family, have used it for years.
The drugs aren’t working

What about "white noise" like a rain vid on youtube?

My old psych professor recommended white noise for anxiety (especially people worried about their health) because it re-sets attention

The sound of fans soothe many people

Just walked past my son’s room and he is slumbering like a wombat under a doona with his fan on

After only 2 hours sleep last night I am open to just about any and every suggestion.

"...
University of Melbourne social anthropologist James Rose said people were more likely to take up conspiracy theories during stressful conditions, such as those presenting themselves in the pandemic.

"What happens under crisis conditions is that people who would otherwise have healthy patterns of thinking, begin to find themselves drawn towards conspiratorial patterns of thinking," he said.

"It's because their existing idea systems have begun to break down under pressure and are no longer sufficient to explain what's going on around them.
"To explain why they've lost their job, why they're experiencing stress and why daily life has become so unpredictable."

That’s exactly what the Illuminati want you to think - that it’s the ‘Rona making you believe in the conspiracy - when it’s them who are conspiring to keep our minds under control, man.

And yet the drugs aren’t working....

(rather than turn this into another moon-landing debate I’ll agree to disagree)😊

I'll add some support to MG's point by pointing out that some flowers and plants can be rather potent e.g. coffee, poppy seed, & cannabis.

The recently mentioned anti-malarial drug quinine comes from the quinine tree.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of active ingredients derived from plants for use as drugs and medicines:

It’s not the “plant/natural” origin - it’s things that have been clinically trialled and found to have no effect.

No argument from me but I'm sure that Pete Evans would disagree strongly with you.

Hmm you obviously don’t believe in homeopathics either, or those wonderful old fashioned remedies your grannies used🤣

Does it work?
For me, yes.
After falling from a ladder, breaking both wrists, and bumping my forehead I went from having no issues to be standing in the centre of 20 acres and feeling closed in.
The doc gave me Diazapan to help me sleep. Like you, it worked for a while. But the quality of sleep was awful, and short. 4 hours max and woke up feeling like the proverbial semi trailer had hit me.
Awful.
The Mrs suggested Rescue Remedy. I’m a science based person. Give me the science, give me the pill. What the hell is this shit made from flowers?
But I gave it a go. The Sleep Remedy worked after about four nights. I was shocked, but 6-7 hours actual REM sleep? Amazing.
Ive been able to move to only using the pastilles when I have sleep issues.
The brain races with thoughts when I hit the pillow. So I get up, take three pastilles, suck them (don’t chew), with8n 10 minutes I’m asleep.
I also use the pastilles when doing an mri (enclosed space) or injections (I’m needle phopic).
I cannot guarantee it will work for you. But I have recommended it to dozens of people over the last decade and no one has come back to tell me to shove it up my arse.
The reality for you is, what do you have to lose?
The medications aren’t working, and are dangerous and addictive.
RR is made from flowers!
Good luck, I hope it can do for you what it has done for me.
