I'm currently playing the SNES version of the original classic Doom on my SNES emulator and while the graphics and frame rate pales in comparisons to other more advanced ports (32X, 3DO, Atari Jaguar, PC, PS1, N64) it is a fun game that is very satisfying. The music is surprisingly slick and has aged great for a game on a 16-bit system! What is your favorite port of the original Doom?

zdoom. Nothing else compares.

It's not really a traditional port at its still on PC, but it does upgrade everything about doom and has led to a large modding community around it.

Also, playing on the SNES is batshit insane. It's a bit of a dud port, imo. The N64 version was surprising good though, as was the Jag.

Have only ever really played Doom on PC.

Would always go through the first level, get kind of bored, then put on God mode and just slaughter everyone.

I'll probably pick up the Doom 3 BFG Edition in a few months time and then go through the first couple of games as well, or at least as much as I can take. There's a distinct lack of direction and real knowledge of what to do/where to go half the time in the Doom games so rage (no pun intended) could take over quicker than usual. Also not looking up and down is an extreme bitch!

Have been watching the Breaking Brad series over on GiantBomb, currently he's about halfway through Doom 2 on the 2nd hardest difficulty. It's one of the most frustrating experiences in the history of gaming, and I'm not even playing!

Had it on PS1 , used to take the PS over to a mates place and we'd set up two tv's back to back with two playstations , great fun.

zdoom is good, creamed myself the very first time i jumped. i've also played doom on the saturn (same as psx apparently) and i really liked the music. better than the vanilla pc doom midi effort. makes me want to find a copy again and play it, bad framerate and all.

Was in EB Games yesterday evening and I noticed some advertising saying that Doom 3 was coming soon to the PS3. Googled it just now.

...Doom 3 BFG Edition will be the final say in Doom content to date. The package will include Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and a brand-new, "lost" mission for Doom 3 with seven new levels, a new boss and two-to-three hours of content.

In addition, Carmack and id have been tweaking the formula, enhancing and improving the now seven-year-old game. The graphics have been enhanced. 3D graphics support will be native. And the game will have a brand-new control scheme on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Also, it will be available on PlayStation 3, which marks the first time in history that the original Doom will be available on a PlayStation platform. (While a version of the game was released for PlayStation, its levels were modified from the PC version and some were missing entirely.)

But perhaps most importantly, Xbox 360 players will be able to use their flashlight and gun at the same time, something that was not possible when the game was originally ported to the console, and which fans let ID know was a problem...

Release date for Australia is October 16;

Space marines who look forward to seeing what they're shooting in Doom 3: BFG Edition will need to wait until its release on October 16, Bethesda announced today.

The BFG Edition includes remastered versions of the 2004 first-person shooter, its 2005 expansion Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission, a new seven-mission pack. It also contains the original Doom and Doom II games, frequently cited as progenitors of the FPS genre.

Doom 3 and its expansion will receive a high-definition face-lift with new lighting and rendering as well as stereoscopic 3D support, 5.1 surround sound, and achievements and trophies for their respective consoles.

The gameplay will also receive changes in the form of a new checkpoint system and an armor-mounted flashlight, allowing players to operate weaponry while simultaneously illuminating Doom 3's darkened environments. The previous version required players to shift back and forth between the handheld flashlight's visual awareness and the much heftier firepower of Doom's diverse arsenal--inspiring a "duct tape mod" to give players the best of both worlds.

The package is set at $40 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and $30 for the PC...

Good shit. I LOVE the Doom series, and will be getting this for the PS3 for sure:thumbsu:
