Draft Camp skills session ?

Anyone know where and what time the skills session in Canberra is on tomorrow for the Draft Camp ? Last yeat it was at Ainslie Oval.

Re: Draft Camp Results

Naitanuis underwhelming draft camp will turn a few clubs off him me thinks, considering he is an athlete before a footballer.

Re: Draft Camp Results

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not.
Definately not. Watching him through the U18 champs was such a let down considering what i had heard about him.

He was always a 'freak athlete' who will 'smash' all the records at draft camp. I have heard all year how he will kill the vertical jump test, yet he can't beat Trent Croads record?

LOL.

Naitanui will be proof why you shouldn't draft someone who lacks football brains.

If you look at Watts- great footy brain, great athlete. That's what you want.

Re: Draft Camp Results

But wouldn't that likely have been a 'running vertical' of 105cm. Jared Brennan holds the running vertical draft camp record of 102cm so not that far off... unless they were claiming a 105cm standing verticla - which is just superhuman!

standing vert mate, crazy!

SEN just reported that Naitanui equalled Brennan's running vertical and 78cm in standing, which is 5cm short of Croad's 97 record.

i would imagine clubs might be slightly disapinted by these results. i know the media have a habit of inflating things a bit, but based on the article in today's herald sun, i got the impression it was expected that natanui would smash both records. not equal 1 and fall 5cm short of another

i dont understand some of the conditions for some of these tests. for example, you'd think they'd get them off the basketball court and onto the footy field for all the running and agility tests, particularly the latter. i'd think cutting and changing direction on grass would be more football specific. all the NFL tests are completed in a stadium on a football surface with cleats. common sense would dictate that this is the right way.

Isnt trying to be a real world on grass test - just the most reliable way to campare between players - as on grass there would be issues such as one player starting off a slightly looser clod of turf than someone else etc... running track is a consistent surface for comparisons.

Don't forget Naitanui played a full 17 games at senior WAFL level + making the AA team at the champs, hardly in the best condition to test physical abilities compared to a lot of his peers.

For a guy who is 197cm running a 2.86 and equal the best ever standing vert. is a nice effort.

Rich didn't do the 20 meter sprints, which was a shame because I was curious to see his pace out of the blocks... would that rule him out of the beep test aswell?

I think Naitanui was feeling the pressure a bit. He was on SEN the other morning and he said something about being a bit sick which might have been him trying to deflect a bit of attention in case he doesn't smash it like everyone expects him to.

78 cm is disappointing in a standing vertical leap for him. The UWA couldnt even make their test go high enough for him. Was expecting more he has a better vertical leap then Brennan.

i think people are also forgetting his height... vertical leap is foot clearance to the ground (tap height minus how high they can reach on the ground)... so NicNat is 4cm taller than Brennan was - so he has actually outREACHED him by 4cm... which is what is important as its that which marks the footy - not your feet. WIth a couple cm maybe growth left in him - it means you'll have someone who hands reach the ball a good 10 or so cm before anyone else.

anyone know what heyne got in the leap one? i think the running leap will suit him better, but still interested in his vertical one.

cheers, B23

Watts was just on SEN and he said that he ran a 8.03 for the agility test.

Stephen Hill has broken the draft camp agility record, previously held by Pearce's at 7.79, He ran a 7.7?. Not sure of the exact time, it just came from Watts who knew he'd broken the record
