My Boy is Eastern's Josh Begley. Wasn't even in their initial squad then came in and whupped some arse.

Will go later, but will go.

As for PDs, don't do them anymore. The bidding gives me a headache.
well do you have a favourite read for a mock draft or power ranking this year?

Brett Anderson and Cal Twomey, Emma Quayle's is awesome but it's usually only a couple of days before the draft, and Bishop and grundog49.

Although Bishop's man crush on Twomey is reaching sexual levels...

Hey Barrels , I have a scenario I need you to fill out for me.

We trade 2017 1st round pick & 2016 4th round pick for the GWS Pies pick (pick 8 at present).

We then have picks 6 & 8 in the draft.

Gold Coast comes to the party & seduces us with picks 4 & 9 (3503 points) + 4th round pick (~150 points) for our picks 6 & 8 (3302 points) + 3rd round pick (~400 points

Did you get all that? ;)

Now who would YOU take with:

Pick 4 - ?
Pick 9 - ?
Pick 58 - ?

Ps. Yeah I'm bored & I'm just keen on the idea of 2 of McCluggage/SPS/McGrath/Venablesetc

Once I get the 'won't happen' out of my system....

Pick 4 - McCluggage/Brodie/SPS/Venables
Pick 9 - Venables*/McGrath/Scrimshaw/Taranto
Pick 58 - Begley

Jonty slipping further and further, goooooooooooooooooooooooooood. Liked the look of Florent as well.
Hard part with Florent is that our pick is likely to be that little bit too high for him.

Scrimshaw, Florent and Taranto are all blokes likely to go mid-first to early second, but also all possible early plunges.

My mate at the Dragons reckons Florent might just be the best of the lot. Also reckons Taranto is taller and heavier than listed.

Trade our 1st round and 3rd round pick for two end of 1st round picks and go Scharenberg and Florent then. We need more blokes who are smart, make good decisions and can kick really well. That's those 2 to a tee IMO.

FWIW when you combine Twomey's latest phantom, Quayle's article (29/6) on the potential No. 1 and Anderson's latest Big Board you get something like ...

1. McCluggage
2. Brodie
3. Ainsworth
4. Bowes
5. Petrevski-Seton
6. Setterfield
7. Venables
8. Perryman
9. McGrath
10. Scrimshaw

Worth noting there could be 3 Academy picks before ours which could push us out to pick 10 to 12.

Guys like Taranto, Scharenberg, Rotham and Berry still there.

Happy to see English march up the Phantom drafts, but I would love to see two or three other tall's and utilities get amongst the top 6 or 7 over the course of the rest of the year. It just may not happen now...

Barrels: any candidates, from what you've have seen, that can help push the likes of Brodie or Venables our way?

Also, really liking Taranto, same size as Venables maybe bigger, likes a tackle and performed better in the champs that Venables...

The more academy picks the better though, just pushes the top players back further.

We can only hope that GC and GWS have to use their 2 picks before us on academy players.

I think at this stage Vennables or McGrath are the two most likely to fall around our pick.

Nothing wrong with them 2, both have a lot of upside.

Alot depending on whether or not ess trade pick 1 to gc. If they do we are shit out of luck.

This scrimshaw cat intrigues me the most. At 193 with nice skills & potential to play in the midfield I suspect he'll be a bolter come draft time.

Tim Taranto is rising fast.

image.jpeg

Local boy (St Kevins/Parkdale/Sandy), listed at 186cm 82kg but I'm told more like 188cm 86kg. Versatile, athletic, basketball background. Genuine marking threat and a clean user of the ball.

Had a very good Champs, and if some of the more noted kids are gone looms as a genuine bolter.

Which player does he remind you of?

Typo. Cheers.

Balic..... dewah07 mate. So he's a soft outside type that floats around like a fairy princess?
Not at all, and neither was Harvey.

He's a basketball type that plays taller than he is and has great spatial awareness without being particularly quick. He hits the scoreboard often too and is a great mark.

He's a weird mix of Acres and Billings if you want to look closer to home I guess; that includes some of the positives and negatives of both.

The question marks on him are whether he has full-time midfield potential and improving his defensive pressure. Probably needs to clean up his skills a bit too.

Probably one who'd be a bit of an early take at our current pick, but not by a whole lot.

I'm just stirring dewah that's all.

What are your thoughts on Scrimshaw developing into a tall midfielder? Is there any Bont type scope or does he look like another flanker type in the Birchell / Gilbo mold?

At the moment he's got a lot of Aaron Francis about him - a CHB who's not a CHB long term - but his agility and skills are unreal for a tall bloke.

There's absolutely bugger all of him, and he's had his injury issues, but I'd be delighted if we got him.

At worst he becomes a superbly-skilled attacking third tall, at best he's a 193cm wingman. He's a September boy too, so young-ish for his draft year.

Think Brandon White but a step above.

Done. Want. He's now my boy. I've got a feeling he skyrockets up the rankings.

Like Taranto think he will be a nice player prefer him to Venables .
Scrimshaw is clearly Birchall type for me .
But clearly hope we get McGrath , heard a lot about Begley recent month too all good .

At the moment, round about our pick area we'd have;

Mids:
Scharenberg
Guelfi
Florent
Clarke
Poholke

Fwd/Mids:
Venables
Taranto

Def/Mids:
McGrath
Scrimshaw

But we wouldn't have. We were always taking White over the Beast.
No

This Academy stuff is a pain.
All of the other teams should bid on any academy player that can conceivably be taken at that spot in the draft.
Force them to use as many points as possible.
It makes no difference to us whether kids we can't end up with are taken ahead of, or behind us in the draft.

Why don't we trade all our players and picks and upgrade everything and have the top 44 picks in the draft so we start again?
