List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

We need a few things to go our way but at the moment it looks like it might. English and Marshall need to go before our pick and if you have a look at most drafts it would be strange to not see a couple of guys in the top ten.

Bowes will definitely be bidded on by GC's second first round pick if not before so that's good. Just need someone to bid on Setterfield or another GWS boy before that Collingwood pick. If all that happens, we end up with a gun!
Would certainly be a fair bit of debate is Setterfield was bid on in the top5, hasn't had a brilliant year.
Reckon he's more 8-15 range for bids similar to Kennedy last year

12 seems unlikely. Maybe 11. Sounds like Bowes will be bid on before 8 in which case GC use either 4 or 8 on him, so that doesn't affect our pick. It's only if Setterfield is valued at more than 7, in which case GWS end up with a top 10 pick and then they can take Setterfield later. What's that, maybe 50% chance? Surely shouldn't make that much difference to the value of our pick.
Twomey, Anderson, Knightmare and Bishop have Perryman gone by pick 11 too.

Interestingly, Bishop has Perryman top 5. I've seen a bit of him locally and is going to be very good but I would not have thought he'd go that high.

So... We really need one of Setterfield or Perryman to be bid on by pick 7?
Probably by pick 6 cos you can bet GWS would let them slide further and get them with all their later picks from Marchbank et al.

Logue wont be a big bodied mid. More a third tall back or third tall fwd. Think the back mans version of membrey but a bit taller

Logue has come into the top-20 because of his unique range of skills. The 194cm prospect has played senior football for Swan Districts this season and was used as a key defender for Western Australia at the under-18 championships. But two weeks ago he played an outstanding game for his club's colts side as a tall midfielder, gathering 33 disposals and using his bigger frame to bust through stoppages. He also had five hit-outs across the day, pinch-hitting as a ruckman when required. He has his fans as a first-round pick.

If it's true we could kill two birds with one stone. He'd get bonus points for versatility.

Yeah but that's it isn't it!

Unless someone slides that fits the team needs well, it's hard to get excited. SPS won't slide to 10 it's just too unlikely.
Given the reported depth in the first 2 rounds I'd be inclined to trade down and get Steele and another with our first. Simpkin, Florent, Venables, Berry and Villis? One of them could end up great player for us with their versatility and competitive natures.

Interesting to note that there's some indigenous talent that may make it to around our third rounder too who have some excitement about them - Kirby, Parfitt, Hampton, Lebois (assuming Bolton and Cedric Cox are gone by then). There's potential gold in them lower picks.

i can see how he can do that against some of the colts sides, but from what i saw at senior level against men, he's just not a mid and its not a case of him needing to put on size etc. he just isnt a mid

i'm sure if you grabbed paddy mccartin at 17 and ran him through the colts midfield he would have collected it at will too, doesnt make him a midfielder

The club is a big fan of Logue. If we downgrade for Steele or even go 2017 first and change for Steele and 17 or 18, then I reckon he'd be in our sights at that pick, Carlisle Goddard Logue would be very handy. Grab an elite mid via FA or trade in 2017 and we're set.

Gold Coast have 21 , 22 , 24 and 27 in the second round alone. It would be handy to get a couple of them , or trade our future 2nd rounder for 21 or 22.

logue is a more mobile option than collins who by all reports we were into last year, certainly not against it

Hope Brian is wrong about trading out pick 10 as the draft drops off after that pick IMO.
Don't forget plugger's mail that he says was from a very reliable source was that if we still had pick 10 we'd look to trade down to I think it was a couple of high teens picks. May be that we think the best talent will be gone by 10 and that there's not much between those who will be left by 10 and those going around 20 and that as such it's better to have two than one.

It's touch and go.
Will there be an early bid on the Giants boys or will someone reach inside the top 10

I am still a big advocate for the Florent-Berg 2016 ticket. I will be repeating this as often as I can and as loud as I can. Florent could be Josh Kelly Jr, with a teensy bit more acceleration and Berg just seems to do whatever is asked of him, no matter the role; Mid, loose defender, drift forward doesn't matter, he always does it very well and very unselfishly.

I don't mind that this year. In general I think we need quality over quantity, but these "lists" of kids are so variable. There are major changes in who finishes up the better players and particularly when it's such an even year. A couple of late teens picks could be magic.

If we can call Jonty "Jack" I'm on board.

The other big question is whether GWS or Gold Coast trade for pick 1 or 2 and whether they keep any of their other top 10 picks if they do, or whether either or both trade out of the top 10. If we do keep pick 10, the worst case scenario would be that there were 9 non-academy selections ahead of us (plus however many academy selections).
