Ok with a potential pick as low as 4, what are we going to do with it?

Trade it off for an experienced inside midfielder under the age of 23 or pick up our best choice in the draft.

We need a hard bodied midfielder with a hard body and who can can the ball and who can deliver it to our forwards.

Our forward line is well stocked for the next 2 - 3 years.
Same goes with ruck with Chook developing and Hille excelling and Ryder as back up.

IMO we need two hard midfielder's and a KPP Backmen

So who's available and who should we pick up?

we will definitely take a midfielder with our first pick. whether it be masten/palmer/ebert or morton there is no real wrong option.

i have been thnking of the following though. imo trent cotchin is the standout midfielder in the draft. i would say he is a monty to go pick number 2.

i wouldn't mind seeing us trade our first pick (4 or 5) and somebody like mark johnson for the number 2 pick. that way we guarantee ourselves of a gun midfielder with pace and skills

There are no guarantees with the draft.

you know what i mean. there haven't been too many guys like cotchin who have dominated junior footy their whole lives

Tambling ?

But yes, I know what you mean.

Cyril Rioli? Is he worthy a first round pick?

We already have Davey, Lovett and Jetta who play the same roll as he does at it would be a waist of a first round pick when we could pick up a midfielder who we desperately need. If hes a available second round, chances are he won't be but we should and probably would pick him up then.

Does anyone know about the youngest Selwood.

Some say hes the best one but I don't think he is as good as Joel.
Would we want to pick him up?
Where exactly does he play?

Plus he is a PEGS (Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School) boy who went to school across the road from Windy Hill.....!!!!

Yep, Melbourne are dying to get their hands on MJ....... not.

No way will they trade their No.2 pick unless we give them one of McPhee, Lovett or anyone with currency. And even then they might not give it up.

he would worth of a late first rounder imo. i can't see him being a top 10 draft pick

Scott Selwood (HBF / Rover)
A much blunter weapon than Joel. Scott is a blue-collar grunt who knocks people over and runs through packs. Plays a little too much on HBF for my taste but his stints in the centre have been encouraging. Probably doesn't run and carry enough - when he does it is because people have jumped out of his way. Shapes as a Daniel Harris type, one-paced inside thug who can lockdown opponents, cruch packs and get the ball going forward.

i said somebody like mj, doesn't have to be him. they won't be expecting a mcphee or lovett type quality player just to drop down a couple of spots in the draft.

If Carlton get the PP, then possibly try and trade for their no3/4 pick. Doubt Melbourne would trade, they need their first round pick imo.
the proposed trade would leave melbourne with pick 4 or 5. who knows, they may have their eye on somebody else besides cotchin. if they believe they can still get that person at pick 4 or 5 they have nothing to lose.

much the same as richmond last year who were always going to pick up riewoldt no matter what number their first pick was

How about Bolton and a 2nd round pick to Sydney for Schneider or Buchanan! Both were dropped this year and isn’t Amon a Victorian. If the hawk's could offloaded Luke Brennan were a chance here, Bolton hard running tall with a rugby type body just what they like eg: Teddy Richard's..

Brennan has some of the worst deposal I have seen, he look's an utter dud

i thought he was a midfielder, wing, fwd pocket player?

We are rebuilding mode so to trade draft choices would be shortsighted. I actually think we need to get into this draft more. I would like to see us consider trading Scott Lucas for a first and second round pick. I realise he is in our best 5 players but he is 30, one of our few players of real value who could help sides such as Bulldogs, Adelaide, West Coast and Kangaroos win a premiership. His departure would also allow Gumbleton, Neagle and Lee to get more game time. I really rate Scottie but I think a trade like this is pretty essential to our rebuilding process.
Remember Hawthorn traded Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Hay for similar deals and look where they are compared to us.
We need to recruit midfielders who can run and who can effectively dispose of the footy.

Are you nuts. I see what you are getting at (trading people with value) but you don't trade potential AA players for the sake of it!

It isn't trading for the sake of it at all.

What it is is realizing that Lucas will not be a part of our next premiership so trade him now to get in some talent that hopefully will be.

Sometimes you NEED to make some really tough decisions to move forward, one of the reasons we are where we are now is because we have not made these tough decisions.

Funny, last time i suggested something like that about Lucas i got shot down and no one wanted a bar of it. I don't think it would be a bad idea, he'd be high in trade value and would be great if we could get an great draft pick in return on him just before he starts declining.

I wouldn't want anything less than the no1 pick for him, and that will not happen unfortunately!
