Dovaston at 13 and pass on Williams if there’s a bid in the first or early second round would be my preference.

I suspect WCE think Banfield won’t require a points match or will get to Cat A.

Yeah dovaston would fit well for you actually. Do you think you would pass on Williams if Geelong or another team bid in that range? Personally id rather we bid on addinsall or Murray but Williams is a Wells type.
How many cat a/b rookie spots do you guys have?

As far as we know:
33 main list
4 Cat As but expect Champion to change from Cat B to Cat A as well as addition of Robertson to make 5 Cat As minimum
1 Cat B (Champion) but expect Champion to move opening the 2 spots for Evans and Walley

I expect our draft strategy to be 13,34,41 for 9 and 54.

1-Duursma
2-CDT
9-Best available
Match Williams with 54, deficit if needed
Match Banfield for free or Cat A
Evans and Walley Cat B
Take pick 1 in the rookie draft
Add Robertson & McCrae Cat A via SSP
One spot for train on

Regarding Eagles/ Blues trade you posted above 13,34,41 for 9 and 54.
That works for both clubs apart from early bids for the eagles academy/FS points

I just dont get why the eagles wouldnt do a deal with the blues prior to today for the pick #53 which could come into #46/#47 which would be worth 120 points something like #53 + #80 for #72 + #87 rather than trading it to the doggies for a nothing pick next year

I assume neither us or the Eagles have the list spots available to take that pick to the draft. So Eagles have essentially given it away in exchange for some good will.

Because carlton dont have the list spots for all those picks

And theres no point them trading points for points

If you help someone else, they need to help you. Give - give

Plus eagles having 1,2,9,54 means they miss T.Williams if the rumours of 1st round bids are true and even 2nd round bid hurts puts their future 2nd likely pick 19 into deficit and moves it back

Tom De Koning (FA)
Sam Docherty (ret)
Corey Durdin (trd)

Their picks are 9, 11, 43, 54, 67, 72, 87, 105
#53 could have slotted in as their last pick wiping out the rest

I wouldn’t want to match an early bid and I hope we don’t. Dovaston with 9 and then use what ends up a pick in the mid 40s on a Curtin/Dalton type would be far more preferable than say Farrow at 9 and early Williams bid match.

We have exactly four list spots remaining. Picked up Campbell Chesser, Liam Reidy, Ainsworth, Florent, Hayward. We also had two people join as SSPs and two join as MSD in 2025 (friendly reminder to everyone how injured our list was...), so had a huge surplus of players on our list.

Reidy, chesser, ainsworth

Draftguru says they have 32/6

Meaning 4 open spots

9,11, 43 and 54

So carlton are moving 9 to 13 with no futures so eagles dont bid on dean at 2?

Just so tigers can bid on him at 3?

Cant believe people actually think this type of blackmail happens
Sure there are things that do happen like the eagles wont bid on lions kids due to the trade they have done or other intangibles but i doubt the above happen.

There would need to be some dressing up of it of sorts
something like #13 + #34 + #51 +F3 for #9 + #41 + #54 + F4

If we get 13, 34, 41 (1660) for 9, 52 (1397) we will be 263 points better off. More once the picks come down after bid matching.

In addition a bid 2 match would cost us 2481 points. Bid 3 would be 2178. Save another 203 points there at a minimum. Westcoast probably bids on Uwland. Knocks Dean down further. Another 216 points saved. Up to 419.

Then there is no guarantee Richmond bid on Dean first up. Annable and Patterson are rated higher by most draft watchers.

Overall, could benefit Carlton by up to 1000 points or so.

Dean should not really attract a bid at 2 in the first place. Westcoast would be extorting us, but there is enough in it for us to give in.

I think its a deal we'd look at anyway, but the guarantee of avoiding a top 3 bid would be the cherry on top.

Thats a great deal for Carlton but wipes out the eagles ability to match any of their Academy/FS kids
I wouldnt say its a great deal. I think it'd work for both parties.

Moving up 4 spots into the top 10, can make a big difference regarding calibre of player available. If Eagles move up it'll be to get a player, that probably won't be available at 13.

From everything I've read their f/s aren't rated that highly. Shouldn't have an issue with points. They also got 2 F2s and an F3, they could trade back in, if an unusually early bid came. Thats if they still want to match.

I reckon getting the player they want with their 3rd pick, would top the priority list, over any late bid matching if it came to it.

I'd disagree with a little bit of this. There's not really anyone worthy of trading up for ahead of time, and the fact a Dean bid could come very late in the top 8 means theres a high chance anyone the eagles think will slide doesnt.

Our tied talent isnt unanimously rated highly but theres a chance a bid for Williams comes around the 20 range give or take a few.

I really cant see a massive difference in the caliber of player between 9-13 thb
the gap between 7/8 to seems to be where it splits into another tier that include Dovaston,Farrow,Lindsay range

To be honest you wouldn't know and neither would I. Unless you have seen the Eagles draft board. While the top consensus top group might be 7 or 8 players, that doesn't mean the eagles rate the next group equally.

If WC trade for 9 it'll be to grab a player that might otherwise not be available. If they see no difference then they can stick with 13.

well... yeah? nosh? I was just saying that in my opinion that next group of players after Sharp and Cumming are pretty middling, and the likelihood of us trading up I would hope would be live in the event one of those 2 looks like they'll slide
