Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Eagles fans let’s be honest here, you ain’t getting no pick 5 and a future first for pick 2. You’ll be getting pick 6 and pick 21 and you will like it for pick 2, and let’s be honest after accepting something similar last year for pick 3 from Carlton in a super draft, and this being a weak draft makes that offer more than reasonable.
Also why you guys pretending like you want CDT, 90% of you are taking Sharp over him even at pick 2, and Sharp wants to leave Adelaide, so you wouldn’t have go home factor.
Pleasure doing business, and also keep Willem Duursma entertained for the first 3 years and I’ll be back!
People who keep spouting “honest statements” are implying that they’re inherently dishonest. WC are taking CDT if they keep two. Everyone needs to make peace with that.

When I see people thinking we're gonna be hardarses at the trade table and walk away with 5 and 6 or 5 and a future 1st for 2:

Frustrated Buzz Lightyear GIF

No need to be hard asses. Just dont trade, pick the guys we want and we cant lose.

Essendon are the ones reportedly "desperate".... and dont they have all our ex-list people in charge?

The new points system will require major re-calibration.

When looking at picks 20 to the end of R2 (pick 43), there are only 2 clubs (outside of the clubs needing points) that have multiple picks worth anything:

Essendon 21+27+30 for 1,708 points (value approx pick 6)
Norf 25+26 for 1,151 points (value approx pick 12)

Other clubs with picks that could be added to a teens pick to move up include

Eagles 13+34+41 for 1,660 (value approx pick 6)
Dogs 14+33 for 1,406 points (value approx pick 9)
Cats 19+40 for 1,034 points (value approx pick 14)

Meanwhile, the following 1st and 2nd round picks are for sale or will be used to match bids
9 Blues
11 Blues
15 Suns
17 Lions
18 Suns
23 Lions
24 Suns
28 Suns
29 Suns
31 Swans
32 Swans
36 Suns
42 Swans
43 Blues

So unlike prior years where mid to late R1 picks got a massive points premium, I expect the premium will be significantly diminished this year. Picks 15 to 18 now enter a much more balanced world.

Looking at prior years, the depth of the 2024 draft meant that picks 15, 17 and 18 had real appeal and multiple offer on draft night for F1 trades. Not as much this year.

Wow so essentially there is no rating difference between CDT and Sharp from a recruiter perspective?

Any idea why draft watchers seem to have CDT and perhaps Robey as separating themselves from the pack (excluding Duursma)?
Not correct. The Sharp range I heard was highest 2-lowest 6. For CDT highest 2-lowest 5. I sense the answer are caged as to where they might land - hard to differentiate at this time.

The Robey interest at Tigerland is real. The idea of pairing Robey and Lalor is tantalising. Not necessarily as good as Dusty but with skills and game style like him (who is as good as triple premiership, dual Norm Smith and a Charlie winner)

The
@WestCoastEagles
are working through a bunch of experienced options as potential SSP additions. Ex-Pie Fin Macrae and Ex-Crow Harry Schoenberg are two names firming at the top of the list. Ex-Lion Deven Robertson will also end up at WC in coming weeks.

I’m sure it’s been covered but theses pages are moving quick.

If the Blues do the Crows trade of 9 & 11 for 16 and F1. Surely that will leave them short of points for Dean and ISON?

Fellow posters - please ignore the opposition sh1t stirring. I have reported it and expect it to be taken down. Open for sensible input but this schoolboy type post is not worth destroying this thread

Thanks in anticipation Keys

In a shallow draft, you want the second best rated player, cough up. 2 13 for 5 6 might work.

Also, in 3 years, we will be playing finals again while you lot will be figuring out a new game style with a new coach. Bookmark it.

Yeah

Good luck with that

Not so sure you’ll be back

Any notion of honest and The Essendon Football Club should never be used in the same sentence.

No Club has more of an Integrity and honesty problem in the AFL than them: :syringe:🐀💉:pill:🩺🧪:pill:

@standbyjames is a perfect reference point.

Plus we know all too well, from painful experience, that Rohan O'Brien always pays overs in trades.

What are Adelaide adding to make this work?

Lmao, coming in with that Dodoro energy when y'all got ROB & crazy Vozzo at the helm :drunk:

Why so many of you choose to interact with someone obviously just trying to get a reaction I have no idea.

2 for 5 + 15 as a trade option should be great news for most here who are keen on Sharp>CDT.
Would also put us in a position to shuffle around picks 13 + 15 to get another pick back in the top 10.
As I've said before, if we hold pick 2 I think it's highly likely we select CDT, this route would let us go the Sharp/Robey/Cumming path.

The question on the desire for Drug Rats to get the CDT pick 2 is who wants to move out of the first 6 slots and what is available in the teens to attract a drop back.

How badly do we want CDT?
If high, then 5+15 probably does not go close to cutting it.
If open to discuss, then 5+15 is a fair offer. Not exciting, just eking out value. It does not mean we take it on its own. We are on record saying we want to move up from 13, not add another pick in that range. If we were able to sell it for a F1, I am more open. If we take the deal on its own and do nothing else, it says we did not rate CDT or feared the go home factor.

Tigers have mentioned they would be open for a split. From what is reported, Tigers are tossing up 2 of Robey, Grlj, X Taylor, Sharp and Cumming at 3+4. Why would they do 4 for 13+15+41? Tigers get assurance of Robey at 3, then 2 of Grlj, Dovaston, Oscar Taylor, Farrow, Lindsay, Greeves, Marsh, Phillipou or NH-H 13 and 15. Plus they get a pick for Kellaway points. That would get them a record number of R1 picks in 2 years for a non expansion club (something like 9 or 10).

I always try to look at it from both sides

Essendon
In 2
Out 5 21 27
Makes sense if the Drug Rats have a boner for CDT. They walk away with 2 (CDT) plus who they wanted at 6 and their NGA pairing.

Tigers
In 13 15 41
Out 4
Tigers get their primary target at 3 (supposedly Robey) and 2 very good at 13+15 plus Kellaway points. They have need for an attacking HBF, a dangerous forward and another mid and 2 at 13+15 will be there.

Eagles
In 4 5
Out 2 13 41
While we miss on CDT, definitely get 2 of Robey, Sharp, Cumming to our engine room. Still hold 34 for use on a slider, matching a bid or trading for a F2 on the night. (On draft night, once the 4 Qld and Blues bids matched, 53 and 58 will be more seriously in the points)
