The initial noise is Dons offering 5+15 for 2. Stepping back, that is 4 first round picks including 1 and 5 so a damned fine draft hand.

If faced with no better offer, I’m going to take that. But I’d want a way to turn 13 15 34 41 into something better and/or shift value to 2026. The depth at that range is ok. 13+15 gets us 2 of Dovaston, Barker, Lindsay, Thredgold, Marsh, etc but we are tight on senior spots so 4 x R1 picks might mean we miss one of Williams or Evans (prioritise Banfield)

Instead of targeting both 5+6 for 2+13, we supposedly want Dons F1. I’t would be a simple transaction and I would do 5+EssF1 for 2+WCF2.

Essendon could be anywhere from bottom 3 to a couple of wins outside the 8. Essendon will look silly being stubborn not budging to get CDT but will look idiots if their F1 is a top 5 pick. If I like it that much, it means it won’t happen even if I chuck in 41.


Given the SA talent at the 5+6 range, why not get the Crows involved? Crows sniffing at Blues 9 with their F1 + 16 on offer (not necessarily the full trade). Pick 6 gets a definite SA top end while 9 is hoping for one being still there so Crows get a better deal.

Crows 16+own F1 for 6 - gets them one of Cumming, Sharp or Schubert

Eagles 2+41 for 5+AdF1 - Eagles give up CDT and 41 but get Sharp or Cumming plus a F1 (assume it’s around 16 but a harder draw and Crows F1 could be as low as 12

Suns 15 for 21+30 - Suns get points upgrade and this could be done independently

Dons 5+6+21+30 for 2+15+16+41 - Dons lose 5+6 but get CDT without losing a F1 and get 2 other mid R1 picks.

Eagles take to draft 1 5 13 34 53 58 and Crows F1
Dons take to draft 2 15 16 27 41


Questions are, would we want this deal and would others want it? There is enough of a skeleton of a deal. Instead of 41, we might need to make it 34 but that is noise in the scheme of it. Or make it 41+53 as both will come into better points for their 2 NGA’s.

Dougie is a phenomenal player. A straight swap of 2027 R1 for Bombers 2026 R1 I’d do which I’ve suggested previously, although I don’t think Bewick is as good as many posters believe. Probably because they’ve only listened to Cal fondle his own balls talking about him.

If we did trade the 2027 R1 we need to be sure we have another way of getting pick 1 in the mini draft. Will be priceless and not sure 2028 F1 will cut it.

If Greeves was denied I can’t possibly see how Port add Dougie, similar age issue. Hopefully Port losing Butters doesn’t affect their “objective” assessment.

I will exercise restraint until it’s confirmed one way or another but he is a Harley level talent and the clear no 1 pick in my view.

Our list management team copped a battering after trading out pick 3 last year, the backlash was the most i'd ever seen from Eagles members & supporters during a trade week.

They would know all too well how everyone felt and whilst i'm certain they back themselves in to make whatever decision they think is best for the club i am also confident they would be mindful after a one win season & the loss of Liam Ryan and Oscar Allen they need to sell a bit of hope to the masses.

Splitting another Pick 2 for what could be by the time we select, pick 9 and an extra pick in the 20's would not be seen as successful and would be a very hard sell.

No one would know the answer to that ever. AFL is so unpredictable day to day you cant even be close to making a call on that

Wouldn't be surprised to see him play most of the 2026 season in the league team with Centrals rather than at U18 level. Means likely more forward or backline positions.
Who knows, next year he might even yet jump across from Centrals and line up with the Powers SANFL affiliate, Port Adelaide.

I'd love to draft Dougie in 2026.

Although this can easily change pending what we pull off this period. A trade that nets us 2 or 3 picks between 5-12, and Schubert is drafted. In 2026, Walters plays five/seven games, disgruntled, and we have the means to bring him to WA.

Potentially in 2028 - We can have a KPP/spine of AReid, Shahan, Schubert (Cochrane/Walters) and Axel ****ing Walsh

30 good picks is crazy talk. There’s probably 25-30 kids in this draft that get drafted most years. Over half this talent pool wouldn’t have had a shot last year or the year before. Even as far out as the early second round some of those third tier mids like Oudshoorn-Bennier who I love, wouldn’t have been taken in the opening 2 rounds of last year. Even the late teens of this draft would’ve been second half of round 2 last year. Past your Farrow range you’ve got certified C grade prospects. But it’s all relative at the end of the day

Depends on your assessment of good. Definitely draftable and got traits, haven’t lit the world alight in their draft year. Lots of potential there. Based on this year they’d be late third rounders in recent drafts though, if not fourth. Doesn’t mean they’re bad players, it’s just not a very enticing class. But there will be gems like there always is, the power of hindsight is strong. Late bloomers, late committing fully, attitude fix ups, professional environment etc etc

Why would Cripps location matter ? It only matters if you want both Banfield and Williams on the main list. I don’t really think it makes sense because if we put Banfield on the rookie list we can move him to Cat B potentially which gives more flexibility

I don’t think he’s a bad player by any means. Hes definitely unique. Strong POD is his frame combined with his speed and power. I haven’t watched all that much of him to be fair, I saw a bit of his champs stuff where he ran a wing here and there. Has he had exposed form as a forward? At 195 with a non-AFL standard tank you’d hope he could at least rest forward.

I do think you’re overrating his kicking especially, but my thing is if we’re drafting these kinds of big bodies it’s great if they can do a bit of damage on the outside which Greeves and Onley both do well, but having a poor two-way game immediately puts a line through them for me. We don’t need any more coasters or skiers that only want to go one way. Sharp, or to a lower tier of the draft a kid like Dalton (not this type of player but for the sake of my point regarding tackling) are real dogs. They ****ing want to lay a big tackle. That’s what we need more of.

I see someone taking a flier on Onley in the 30-40 range. Just way too raw to come in and play year 1. Would probably dominate the wafl but that’s not exactly a tall order.
