So yeah it’s all an exercise to replace what was lost but with 4 extra rookie spots it might not actually matter and you just take best available with the first 4 picks

Can't imagine how hard it is to do something like this for all 18 teams and appreciate the effort

Dare say if we take 2 tall fwds in our first 3 picks Min Res could potentially get burnt down

Replace CDT and/or Schubert with a mid and its probably pretty close to what most want and expect

This was easily the hardest one to get right and the Eagles fans demand the best, so the pressure is on. Duursma and Duff-Tytler has long been a rumoured pair and for good reason – both have shown to be the standout talents in the open draft and their upside is also high.



If not Duff-Tytler I could see Taylor being a shock pick especially if Eagles do follow through on a bid on Dean, showing they really want a key defender, then having Taylor right there if they want him.



Pick 15 is another really hard one to pick as the Eagles need to cover plenty of different roles. If they take Taylor they could pair him with teammate Dovaston, or maybe a high upside talent in Barker. Bids for Williams and Banfield might not happen, but if any do then Williams likely goes the highest and I imagine the Eagles make some moves to not go into deficit.



It’s been reported Eagles will only take four picks but if Banfield is bid on I would make sure to match as I feel he has AFL qualities either as a tall wingman or contested marking forward. Evans is a slight chance for a bid but more likely to make it through the rookie draft. West Coast only has one category B spot which is likely to be used on Walley.

Schubert and CDT….. another year to wait for these top quality mids

Its why I dont subscribe to the "draft best available instead of for needs" argument. Its all well and good drafting the best HBF in the game, but when you've done the same thing for the last 5+ years you just end up with a list of HBFs.

We should be drafting for best available in the positions we need.

It's all good until you pick up failed mids. What if Sharp ends up as Willem Drew & Cumming gets delisted after a handful of games?

I also should have factored in if Eagles consider CDT a ruck or a tall forward because if it’s a tall forward then Schubert is completely out the window.

I think the issue with addressing the midfield on top of Duursma is that it needs to be done with that pick 2 as I don’t think any of the midfielders available at pick 13 are really moving the needle for me. Maybe it’s passing on CDT all together and taking one of Robey/Sharp/Cumming and hoping a Schubert is still there for pick 13. List decisions are tough but fascinating.

I actually am thinking along the same lines - Take best talent available.
If we rate CDT above Sharp, then so be it.

It's a strong draft regardless mate and I think Evans is being slept on due to injury/limited exposure. (Only seen his videos but I really like what I see)

You did indeed eDPS. Everyone is going to have their own opinions. I too believe we’ll take Duursma and CDT. Schubert as a KPD I’m good with if he slides that far. I’ve also really come to like Dovaston for a multitude of reasons which I’ve detailed so no issue if we selected him at 13 instead.

The obvious issue is the lack of mids and ground ball players but I think it’s also going to be the reality for us given the lack of mids at 13. I look at Sharp and Cumming going to Essendon and would happily trade CDT and Schubert for those two.

I think our picks are not going to be too far off what you’ve suggested although I’d rather use pick 34 than match a bid on Williams, especially if we do take Dovaston at 13. I suspect WCE will do the opposite.

The debate around Sharp from the whole footy community is the problem. Everyone expects he's a solid Andrew Brayshaw type, but he's nowhere near a sure thing.
As for Cumming, he's a worse version of Erasmus for mine. A better forward but not as good as a mid which would be the whole point in taking him.

I really like him. But where he is projected I’d definitely have a look at any split offers for 2 seriously, as you may get him and another or alternatively two rated similarly or above him anyway. Pick one plus some of the possibilities within that is very tasty

True that. Splitting pick 2 and getting Sharp is my preferred outcome, but I would be dissapointed if we straight picked him at 2.

With Shuey, Sheed, Redden and Gaff gone or relocated permanently to rehab, our midfield is pretty bare. Harley has very little support and if we don’t address that, he won’t be staying.

Personnel from the recruiting team have stated they needed to go hybrids as we did not have the picks to get the likes of Cripps, Tom Green, Dunkley, FOS, Smith, Smiley, etc.

Our board have had enough. Duursma will be a great get but he is more damaging on the outside.

With pick 2, we need Sharp. I do not doubt CDT will be a good footballer but tell me, where does he play and what position can you envisage him selected in XXX years time in the AA team. He wasn’t the best ruck at Coats or in the carnival. He is not the best KPF in the draft! But thanks - I really like Schubert.

I like eDPS work, those that bemoan his style of phantom drafting in terms of filling out the list positionally rather than on needs, being a unique and a fresh perspective, are just silly. He’s not in the draft room in 2 weeks nor are any of us, and he puts a lot of effort into something that generates discussion for us in the wait for the draft.

Goes back to what I have said previously, this is the absolute worst draft I can imagine for us to have 1, 2 and 13 in. Any other year we’d have two A grade mids coming into the side and a great tall ceiling pick at 13. This year we’re screwed into reaching for a mid at 2, or not really being able to grab one at all. Combine this with next year’s NGA class being non-midfielders as well, it’s unfortunately down to our 2026 1st to nail a long term partner to Harley.
