Still not thrilled with picks 1 and 2 in this draft, but like a lot of players in the first round. Don't love the pick swaps being floated too much either, but I'd be well up for the right pick swap.

Where would people rate the value of picks 1 and 2 if:

1 and 13 to Essendon for 5,6 their and their f1.

Is this too lop sided for us? Feels about right to me but I'd throw in one of our future seconds potentially. I don't see Duursma as being anything particularly outstanding and also don't really see a clear need for him in our 22. I can see nightmare scenarios where Harley goes home in 2028 and Duursma in 2029 and having to restart our rebuild. Just not a good idea messing with Victoria pick 1's in the age of 2 million dollar seasons. 5.6. F1 is worth more to us than Durrsma and 13. The loyalty you are going to get out of a player taken at 5 and 6 is a safer bet, for negligible long term difference in talent or ability or ceiling. To Essendon, I can see them viewing Duursma as a marquee player who is central to their list build. To us he's just another draftee really. I'd do this trade without a second thought.

Then I'm doing something similar with 2. And we ave 2 options.

2 to Melbourne for 7 and their f1. That would be ideal. We take 5.6.7 in the draft and also have 3 first round picks next year in the top 10.

But, thats maybe too harsh on Melbourne unless they are really into CDT or Robey. So Carlton comes into focus. If they can get 2 they get ahead of any Dean bids.

2 to Carlton for 9 and their f1. Personally I'm not sure the 2 for 5.6 deal isn't daylight robbery, but 9 plus a pick that could be in the pick 5 -10 range next I think it's mostly fair. For Carlton to get a top 2 pick ahead of the Dean bids when they need to sell 9 or 11 anyway is worth parting with their f1. Pick 2 this year is the highest they are going to get in this or next years draft.

We take 5.6.7 or 5.6.9 in the draft and get whoever you want. For me I'm taking Sharp, Grlj, Dovaston but I don't really care if it's only 2 out of the 3 and it's Cumming or Farrow or whoever. 6 players inside the top 10 over 2 drafts, **** the so called top rated player.
I think we need to remove any fanciful thinking of getting 5, 6 and an F1 from Essendon. It's not happening. That's likely to be 5, 6 and 1-4.

It doesn't matter how desperate Essendon are for CDT, they're not going to enrage their supporter base to do it

My money would be on NHH if we keep pick 13. That's assuming Farrow, Sharp and Dovaston are off the board.
I don't see that happening but I would love it if we took that risk at that pick

Yeah, really love NHH. One of my favs of this cohort.

Unfortunately I just don't feel like how he profiles in terms of upside / risk / exposed form suits us given where the list is at. But would be really amped if we got him.

We won’t get 5 & 6 or 6 & F1 for pick 2 never mind all three of them. It’s why there won’t be a split. We want overs the Bombers will want something fair.
If we were in the Bombers shoe’s imagine the outrage in here if someone mentioned us giving up 5,6 and a F1 to get to pick 2. 🤣.
You are correct it’s fanciful.

NHH strikes me as a bit of a temu Sheezel - that isn’t meant to be an insult and is probably inaccurate anyway but just see some similarities

Think he’s in the next group just behind where our third pick lands along with the likes of Phillipou, Barker, O Taylor and Marsh

Ideally, we don’t have to choose from that group

I hope we can make Farrow an Eagle. Also hope we can nab either Pickett or Kickett, as we need a Ryan replacement, badly.

Our NGAs will supply that.

Hutchinson will replace Ryan at HF. Very good overhead. Runs hard both ways.

And then we have Davis, Dewar, Hewett, Long, draftees and then our NGAs in Walley, Williams and Koby Evans who all play HF.

If we keep 13, there's a good chance we will be selecting from that group. NHH strikes me as the highest potential player, great skills, footy nous, strong athletic profile and he can do some freakish things with the footy.

I think we have room for an X factor SF in our line up.
We dont have 1 and several of the names mentioned probably wont make it.
Pickett looks the best at mid 2nd round.

Dewar will need to improve greatly to be first choice player and excells around the wing.
Hewett will be a mid/HF rotating player long term ad probably the best of all the names mntioned.
Long will be unlikely to make it.
Williams is more a HF with elite speed and working up the ground.
Evans is an X factor mid who probably rotates forward similar to Hewett.
Walley is an unknown but the closest to Ryan if he can put up a better season.
Davis is a true wing who can play that goal kicking HF.
Hutch will play HF as well.
Champion may make it.

None are X factor SF's like Ryan and most likely depth and many not on the list in 2-3 years.
Amongst our NGA's we have a huge opening for that X factor SF and it will be a battle of many over the next couple of years.
Champion, Walley, McGlade are the 3 that look to have the most potential as SF X factor players and they will be tried and progressed until they do or don't make it, but are they any better than Pickett?

No offence. But if the best CV since Rowell slips through us and turns out to be a star then that's sackable right there.

The recruiting team should front the board and be sacked on the spot. You can choose to blindly disregard a CV of his caliber but you shall be sacked if it falls waste side.

There is ZERO ****ing excuse for the scenario where we skip dyson and he turns out to be a star. NONE ZIP. Fired on the spot. Ideally blacklisted from the club

I prefer my recruiters actually judge talent based on output.

I still have faith and believe in the dots
Who has the best CV since Rowell? And how?

And Newton ? And if we draft him F-Rod can also play HFF.

who is this Ryan lite player?
Pickett or Kickett as being badly needed to replace Ryan. Ryan only scored 30 goals once in his career (2019), and only kicked 4 goals 3 times in his career. Not great output, as far as i am concerned he under achieved. He needed to have done a lot more than just taking a few speccies and kicking some dribble kick goals.

Am i correct that Deven Robertson can bypass PSD abd RD and be added directly to our Rookie List via SSP? Meaning we are free to use Pick 1 in RD on a talent that slid through the national draft?

Macrae to be signed in the SSP period alongside DevRob.

A great pick, frozen out by lack of opportunity (and perhaps injury) but definitely worth a punt, I think he offers something for any side, much less a wooden spoon winning side.

Might be Josh Smith Mk II - a former Pies player that plays a role in the midfield while our kids develop.
