Can people stop saying Pick 9 and 13. We will end up with 13 and 18 by the look.
Maybe there are 8 players that would be taken ahead of Francis. There isnt 12.
Likewise Burton. Pick 13 maybe a risk. 18 all day everyday.

The academy players don't really impact us that much because they were never ours to start off with. The 13 players we would have selected from will still be there.

I know that. Just the way some blokes are talking i think they need to remember that Mills etc shouldnt be included in potential players that could drop Francis and the like back in the pack

It is now healed, surely the medical department would be able to do scans and find out how well it healed, they would know if he is likely to have persisting issues or has made a full recovery with a fair amount of confidence. The risk would be if he had just done the injury and not knowing how it will heal, but it has now healed.

If he's having lingering pain, stiffness or anything I'm sure he'd keep it to himself

I think everybody on here has francis as number 1. Number 2 is pretty much a blanket over burton, milera, oliver, mckay, etc. we couldnt be lucky enough to grab francis and burton surely..

I thinks it's pretty clear Milera, Oliver, McKay will likely be gone by our second pick. That's why I think getting a mid at 13 (if we get Francis at 9) would likely not be the quality everyone here would like. May be a good player but unlikely to be a star. Burton on the other hand could be, same with a couple of others.

I have heard that he is moving well and am sure that the due diligence will be done. It will be interesting to see part 2 of the interview as part 1 was focused on the initial injury and recovery for the first 8 months. Put it this way if we take him with one of our picks the club has deemed him as a reasonably safe prospect. Oh and I believe Brodie Smith was once a port supporter also...

Under the old system, Carlton and Melbourne would not have ended up with another top 10 pick each.

Meanwhile Sydney still get a top 3 pick for pick 14 thanks to the PlayStation trading formula they introduced.

Not a fan of the new system at all.

It's the fact that he was a crows supporter but switched while his dad was our runner that is concerning. I have an issue with people who switch football teams for the most recent premier.

He was a young kid that's why. Hell my sister left the Crows because Blight traded Godra. She has never changed her mind. We don't talk much now.

These posts are back-to-front ...

The teams using the academies have to use up their top picks for points. They don't get to keep their round one pick for the draft and use all of the old picks to get the academy players.

They have to use their lowest, then their second lowest etc...

These teams trade out their low picks for later picks because they won't be drafting anyone with the early picks they will just be using them for points.

This new system is much much better. Of course we never get the benefit of the old system where you could pick up a gun for nothing ... but if we had an academy with a couple of good prospects - we would be trading pick 9 and 13 for some other club's later picks to use for points. We would not be getting an advantage like some seem to think.

They only use picks they have that fall after the pick that was used to bid on a player. If an academy player is only bid on at pick 50 then it's only picks after 50 that are used to match, with the club free to use it's earlier picks in the open draft. That is why we need to bid on hopper at 9 if no one else has bid so that GWS is forced to use 10 on him.

Also, GWS could have tried to trade up to pick 3 and used that in the open draft, assuming Brisbane and Carlton don't bid on academy players at 1 and 2, but then they would have unlikely had enough points left this year for all their academy kids meaning their 2016 top picks would start being impacted.

Burton's knee scares the shit out of me! The way Liptak described it as putting it back together as jigsaw puzzle is not a good sign. I would pass. Too great a risk at 9 and 13 IMHO. If he turns into a superstar, I am happy to relieve the club of copping abuse because the risk it far too great in the top 15. If he had a pick in the 20s I would take the punt but at 9 and 13, the risk is too great.

Given where we are at as a list and missing out on early picks for 2 years because of sanctions, we simply cannot afford to stuff up any of our 2 picks this year. It's just not an option at all for us.

Wonder if liptak was doing the crows a few favours with his comments...

I'd say he Dad leaving the crows had something to do with it. I actually can't tell if you're serious or not, he 5-6 at the time.

We're only interested in the live picks. We know it's actually 13 and 18 or something but that's a moot point IMO.

With their first 3 picks carlton will want a kpd(weitering), a kpf and a mid. Essendon will want a mid and a kpp. Melbourne will want a kpf to go along with parish. Someone will slip through at 9. Gold coast will get in before us and take milera or francis. Your probably right at 13 the field will narrow. That was my thinking before though, if we have to pick between collins or a mathieson, balic, tucker, hibberd which way do we go?
