List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

There are rumours suggesting his recent DUI conviction was some kind of final straw or last chance.
Well I guess you can't really play more than two small defenders and Laird and Brown have more than cemented their places. But there'd be a big queue of clubs willing to pick up Jaensch if we let him go, with good reason.

I imagine there'll be better players than Keays available at 9.
I agree there most certainly could be, need to look at the what's on the board but look at his tapes very balanced, nice size and he would fill a need.I think he's one of the better mid's in the draft.
Keays is very good player who would enhance our list. Hipwood is the one I'm more impressed with. Don't think it's going to be a big dilemma as Brisbane will have the 'points' to match the offers anyway.
I'm hoping the target our recruiters like is still there come pick 9 .

Not unreasonable, given that he has Francis, Milera and Oliver already off the boards. McKay would be the best option available at that point, at least as far as Adelaide's needs are concerned. I would be a little bit disappointed if things turned out that way, given that I want us taking mids with both 9 & 13, but I'm OK with it if the 3 gun mids are already gone.

We have to make 3 changes minimum every year, and so far the leading candidates for 2016 are Grigg, Lyons, Wigg, and Lowden.
I would also expect Thompson to retire. VB may as well, if he ends up back in the SANFL by the end of the year. I'd like to say that Mackay will be gone as well, but I'm not holding my breath in anticipation.

Grigg & Lowden would be the first two to be delisted. After that, it's harder to read the tea leaves at this point in time.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There wasn't exactly a long queue forming to sign Harley Bennell - and Bennell is 10x the player that Jaensch is.

Players with Jaensch's record (alcohol related behavioural problems) are not in high demand at the best of times.

I'm not sure, but my gut feel says the same if Grigg doesn't take his chances. Him and Lowden will probably be gone if that's the case. Dear too, if he doesn't come on next year - I reckon we can find better KPF depth elsewhere, KPF's drafted in the 60's don't usually come on.

Retire: Thompson, VB
Delisted: Grigg, Lowden, Dear, (Jaensch?), (Lyons?)

I think Dear will be given longer than that. KPPs take longer to develop as a general rule and we're not blessed with an abundance of alternatives on our list at present. He would have to be pretty damn ordinary next year in order to be delisted after the minimum 2 years.

What article? There was no link.

But I remember the game well, as I'm sure most of us do. Rutten did a good job on Franklin and Luke Thompson had one of his best games shutting out Roughhead. Otten was also one of our better players, rebounding out of defence, not playing at CHB.
So.. you were given an article which flatly contradicted your position. Otten named at CHB. Your argument now becomes "but he never really played that role". Talk about shifting the goal posts.

The reality is that Otten has played as a KPD in the past and the decision to give him a 2-year contract was clearly based on his ability to play that role.

Tapes? I hope that's not the kind of technology our club is still using!:p

Plenty of players are delisted after their draft contract without ever having played a game, and we just traded in another two players to sit ahead of him, plus one not necessarily ahead but certainly in competition - and in the unlikely event this Francis kid comes to us, there's another one.

We have to make 3 changes minimum every year, and so far the leading candidates for 2016 are Grigg, Lyons, Wigg, and Lowden.

The leading candidates are Lowden, Grigg, Lyons, Thompson (ret), Kelly, van Berlo (ret), Shaw, Otten, Mackay, Atkins, Cheney, Dear and then maybe Wigg.

Interesting , happy with one of milera , Francis or mckay at 9

Not sure re Balic, we don't usually rush to draft vic metro kids but it does happen eg sloane and Talia

The kid has talent and is a different sort of player , quite unique

Both of those kids are projects rather than ready to go round 1 next year but that's ok

Balic! Burton went at 11, Ah Chee at 12.
Burton to carlton and ah Chee to Richmond does sound likely

Sounds like it's milera, Francis and mckay for 9

And Balic , tucker and hibberd in mix for 13

Overall happy with those options but mckay and Balic is prob my least preferred of the options out of those , more so Balic

They had Bombers taking Francis with their first pick after bidding on Mills. Tucker and Hibberd were late teens. Ryan Clarke not in top 30. The more I read and see of Balic, the more I like him. I'd prefer Burton personally, but Balic will sit fine also.

McKay is so raw I find it difficult to be completely happy with the call at 9 but can completely understand it, if it happens. If he does come good, it will be in about 3 years, which will suit our side in any case with JJ being solid and consistent. Balic has a decent frame for his age, if he builds his aerobic base maybe he could transfer into a more permenent midfielder, so there's that flexibility too.

Read an article somewhere that Balic when asked about moving interstate if drafted outside Victoria how he'd handle it said something like " We are a very close family but I THINK I'll be OK with it".....alarm bells started going off right then for me.

I'm a big McKay fan but only if milera and francis not there

I could handle Balic but prefer others like hibberd

He spent 3 years in AFC list management meetings and is the coach of the AIS squad, I'd say on the subject of who we will draft he would know more than anybody on this board, unless there are people who have been in our list management meetings after Sando was sacked.
Precisely. If anything, Sando would know better than anyone what qualities we like the most in our draftees and put two and two together.

I don't know mich about Balic but Harry McKay is precisely the type of player we would love to get. Fills the need, multi position player with huge upside. Like I said a month ago, wouldn't be at all surprised if we overlook both Francis and Milera at 9 to pick H. McKay if all 3 are available.

If all 3 are available there's a reasonable chance 1 will still be there at 13.
