Lets be honest, we know stuff all about these young kids.. scouts at the club have been watching these kids for years. so im putting 100% trust in them to pick up great kids at 9 and 13. I can already see people whinge that we didn't get so and so etc.. give 2-3 years to make judgement.
Right now we are only going by names that others have discussed like Francis or Burton or Milera.

I agree 100% TO A POINT ......i've seen too many draftee's "rocket" up the draft order on the basis of one U18 championship game or an U18 finals game to believe that the years of tracking counts for anything at all

What counts is the draft year .....basically the last 6-8 games the player plays .....and that's what we're seeing as suporters

I just think there are too many risks associated with taking Burton at 9 or 13.

- seriously bad injury and quite rare too so prognosis in future is a bit of a mystery.
- No exposed form in 2015 so we'd be making a guess that he would have had a great 2015 if not injured.
- He's 190cm and he's played most of his career as a tall forward. He's not tall enough for that at AFL level so you're asking him to either be a third tall or a midfielder which he hasn't done much before. He's said recently he sees himself as a midfielder in future but I wonder if he's just saying that because he knows he's not tall enough to monster the big defenders in future.

Anyway, good luck to the kid, but the question marks, in my eyes, see him in the Pick 20 to 30 range.

From where we're sitting i couldn't argue with these comments .....but experts are still talking him up after all these points

Is he special ....can he make 100% recovery .....really, only the doctors know

I disagree. There's no way Hibberd is a better kick than the others on that list. I'd have Milera right up there.

I'd love to get Burton, feel like we'd be kicking ourselves for years to come if we didn't.

But after getting Menzel, I think the club might be going in a different direction.

Harry Mckay, Wayne Milera and Riley Bonner are the three I hope we go after at 9 and 13. If the 0.0001% chance that Francis is still there then take him obviously but if not then Mckay at 9 then Milera at 13. But realistically whatever is the best talent left I'll be happy with as a fan... Don't wanna see that arrogant sack Burton playing for us though

Agree- although we've brought in three players renowned for speed and skills. Think we'll go a tall forward and a mid/wing and back in our defenders

Don't necessarily agree with the order but all are certainly very good kicks, just feel a couple of the named are lacking in toughness and aggression at the body as well as not being two way runners, Bonner in particular playing in defence is not great one on one and gives his opponents far too much latitude for my liking, would need to tidy that up to be successful at AFL level.

With Ramsey and McGovern yet to debut and Menzel traded in our need probably isn't Burton. In saying that, he would be hard to go past at 13 IMO.

Not sure if it's been posted in here or not yet, but did anyone see Gary Buckenara talk about Dean Gore? Apparently they had him rated around pick 20-30 in last years draft, and said if he was in this years crop they would imagine him to be around 15-25.

Always good to hear from such a highly regarded recruiter.

I don't think it really matters considering everyone has the academy players going to their respective clubs marked down in their books anyway.

It's just a number at the end of the day.

Let's assume all academy kids are bid on at pick 3. It's extremely unlikely these kids will go anywhere but the clubs associated with the academy.

Here's the timeline

1. GWS Academy Player gets bid on at Pick 3 by Melbourne
2. GWS match the bid, and upgrade their Pick 10 (and maybe later picks) to pick 3
3. GWS select the academy player with Pick 3.
4. Melbourne pick the next player at Pick 4. Everyone's draft pick between 3 and 10 is increased by one.
5. Adelaide selects at Pick 10.
6. Carlton still selects with Pick 11 as per the draft order before bidding

Because we were never in with a chance at the academy kids, we still select the 9th best kid at Pick 10 as an 'unavailable' kid is selected with Pick 3.

The only major difference before the trade period to now is that GWS traded Pick 8 to Carlton, and received Pick 10

So prior to the trade period the timeline would have been:

1. GWS Academy Player gets bid on at Pick 3 by Gold Coast
2. GWS match the bid, and upgrade their Pick 8 (and maybe later picks) to pick 3
3. GWS select the academy player with Pick 3.
4. Gold Coast pick the next player at Pick 4. Everyone's draft pick between 3 and 8 is increased by one.

It's probably a moot point but I wonder if our recruiters will look at these two picks as a package - in other words, instead of just taking two 'best available' picks, do we go tall and small, outside and inside, defender and forward? 'Best available' is the best bet when you have one first rounder, but with two we have a level of flexibility in the draft that we haven't had in years.

I've written off Burton as a bit too risky, but they good go down the road of taking a 'safe' player at 9 on the grounds that they'll take Burton at 13 as a speculative/risky pick?

I reckon there is a kid in this draft Ryan Clarke that is so much like Rory Sloane it's not funny, absolutely the best gut runner in this draft, probably a bit quicker than Rory, good balance of inside/outside midfield work, hits the scoreboard regularly for a mid, perhaps his only little knock is his kicking whilst not bad can be a little inconsistent. Really, really like the fact just like Rory he's a tackling machine and a two way runner. Won't be at all disappointed if we are giving him consideration for pick 13.

Adelaide is know for its ability to develop Talls so Burtons a chance to be drafted at our pick due our success with such types.

Yep, that's what I think too, the worry is though with the KPP's the mail is Essendon and Carlton are keen too.
