List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

It's just you, I've watched him live for several years, rarely misses a target and has a very penetrating kick, most recruiters class him in the top half dozen or so in this years draft.....and he's a lefty.

fair enough, not saying his kicking is bad, perhaps it was just the highlights I saw, but every time I saw him kick on his left it was an awkward ball drop.

Looking at his highlights is it just me or does tucker have an awkward kicking action?

Clayton Oliver too - seems to have an unusually high ball drop in a few of those clips. Looks an absolute brute of a man though, can see him jumping straight into AFL football next year and with the way he fights for the ball, probably doing some serious damage at stoppages. He is an animal.

Hey Bicks .....don't like getting called out sprouting unfounded rubbish
You've referenced Paige Cardona a number of times in this thread alone when "sprouting" the players you would like us to draft so I take it you must respect her work??...

http://footyprophet.com/paiges-phantom-draft-edition-one/

13: Port Adelaide – Darcy Tucker
Height: 181cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 25/07/1997
Recruited from: North Ballarat
Draft Range: 8-20

Blessed with speed, agility, and a bullet-like left foot, Tucker regularly repels his team from half back. Started to spend more time in the midfield after having played most of his football as a damaging rebounding defender and his team’s go-to man in defence. A strong leader who is well respected by his peers. Loves to run and carry the ball, which is arguably the most exciting part of his game.

I reference people ....yes

I give my own opinons ....yes

But i don't try and pass myself off as having inside information about where each club recruiters rate a player .....that's just as bad as people with trade sources

My thoughts at this stage...:

What we know for an iron clad 100% fact is that all 3 of Weitering, Schache and Parish will be off the board before our first pick, unless one of them snaps in half in the next 4 weeks. Obviously there'll be 5 other non-academy players also off the board before we select anyone, with Francis, Weideman, Milera, Curnow, Mathieson, Tucker and Balic among those most likely. Maybe someone like a Hibberd or C Oliver bolts into the top 10 too. You never know.

So, for Picks 9 and 13, I'd like us to get 2 of the following. Essentially this is my draft board, in order:

Francis - if available, you just have to take him - surely he'll go before 9 though, won't he?

Milera - if available and Francis is gone, we'll surely pull the trigger here, but looking increasingly likely to be gone unfortunately.

Curnow - if available and the two above are gone, I'm a fan. Tall mids are the future, and the closest thing we have to one is CEY who isn't in the same class as Curnow - again, likely to be gone, but a more realistic chance of falling than the other 2 IMO. Think J Kennedy (Syd) with a touch of Cripps and Stringer. Yum.

Tucker - my only question mark is his temperament - love his game and love the way it fits with what we already have and don't have. I've heard stories about him belting someone in the head on the field and potentially having a poor attitude. I don't know how accurate these reports are so please don't shoot the messenger. His game is top notch.

Burton - look it's a bit of a wild card pick, but I'm a fan. Again, reminds me of Stringer. Right down to the snapped leg dropping him from a sure fire top 3 pick. SA factor too. We are a club renowned for being excellent at developing forwards. I'm in.

C Oliver - see below

Mathieson - obviously these last 2 are pretty much inside mids which might raise alarms with the yearly cries of 'we don't need those', but with Danger gone, Thommo with 1 foot out the door and question marks over CEY and Lyons at the top level, plus B Crouch injury concerns, Dougie getting older, Sloane potentially better utilised in a running role than at the coal face, Kerridge gone, VB never to be seen at another stoppage again, I think we need to start thinking about recruiting one of these again, and Oliver and Mathieson are both excellent at what they do. Do we really need inside mids less than we need forwards? Interesting argument.

Hibberd - smashed the combine to pieces, is a great size, and has a looooong left peg. I get the feeling he'd be a great team man too. Quality unit who just tries his guts out.

Weideman - he'll probably be gone before 9 but this is where I have him. Doesn't really fit our needs, but should be a really solid AFL player. Leadership qualities and I believe he is actually a crows fan from Victoria.

Collins - gorilla key defender. He's an absolute lock to become a solid AFL player, but he might not be the 'type' of defender that we require. Mind you, I'd be far more comfortable with Collins in my Round 1 2017 side than Hartigan from a talent / footy smarts point of view, so he must at least be considered.

Bonner - the best field kick in the draft without a doubt, and can use it on both feet (so like, he's not David Mackay). Unfortunately, he's just not that great at anything besides actually kicking a footy at this point (Harrison Wigg says hi). Will never be an AFL midfielder, and we just recruited Seedsman and Hampton to fill the sort of utility role Bonner would be looking at, so from a list management point of view, I don't really see this happening. Would still consider despite these deficiencies, because the kicking is just so off the charts good though!

Essentially, we're guaranteed to have the opportunity to select 2 from that list. Obviously taking 2 different types of player is important, so you wouldn't pair Oliver with Mathieson or Weideman with Burton or anything like that. Something like Tucker and Burton would possibly make sense and they appear likely to be available at 9 and 13 respectively at this point, but there's still a lot of bolting and sliding to occur between now and draft day so you never quite know what will be available (until Emma Quayle tells everyone the day before the draft).

If rumours are to be believed, we appear to be strongly considering H McKay with one of the two picks, who I personally wouldn't be going near (I'd also avoid Balic out of the top 20ish prospects). I really don't know why we'd be going down the 200cm forward path. I mean, if he could genuinely play in the ruck as well as forward (a la Tippett) I'd be all for it because those players are a rare commodity, but he literally can't even ruck against 17 year olds, so I'm not sure what the point of getting what is essentially a Jenkins clone (tall, quick for his size, good on the lead, contested marking not a big strength, not a ruckman's arse hole) is. This, to me, would also be a clear indication that we've got somewhere between little and no hope that Harry Dear has a future at AFL level too. Who knows, maybe it's bullshit, or maybe a higher preference slides to us at 9 and McKay gets snapped up in between our picks or something.

Burton is also a full time forward, but at least he offers a point of difference. You simply can't play all of Jacobs, Jenkins, Tex and McKay in the same side. Ever. Burton could certainly fit in with those other 3 (even with Lynch thrown in the mix) IMO.

If there's some sort of 'trade Jenkins' plan, then McKay makes all kinds of sense with the way we play, but if Jenkins is going to be a long-term fixture in the side, then it's a no thanks to Harry from me.

On Mckay, I think this is the right time to look at developing a kpf so they're ready to step into the side full-time in 3-4 seasons, by then Jenkins would be 30. If we do go with a kpf my preference is Mckay over Weideman.

people have seen him more than me but milera really a top 10 pick? has he really bolted that much in the last few months of the sanfl season?

would francis missing the back half of the sanfl season hurt him that much? remarkable in my eyes.

Milera - yes he is, to the right team. He's a chance to get through to us if Gold Coast don't want him at Pick 6. All reports suggest they want him pretty bad to replace Bennell.

Francis hasn't been 'hurt' that much in terms of his draft stock. I don't see how he'd get through to pick 9 really, but with Gold Coast not really keen on that type, Essendon supposedly focusing on mids and genuine talls (who knows if that's actually true), and Melbourne set to take Parish with Pick 3, it's looking increasingly like he'll fall to that 7-9 range (not including the academy picks). Surely Melbourne will take him at 7 or Carlton at 8 though you'd think. Unless he does a Wingard at the interviews of course...

Please do a Wingard Aaron. :)

I think Essendon take Francis and a key forward. They need a third tall defender, and there will be good mids early in the second round, when they have two more picks.

Could be the next wines imo.

I guess Burton could be an option, now that I think about it - as long as we don't draft Francis/McKay as well. We really need to stock up on potential good mids now that Traitorfield is gone.

Still really want Hibberd, though.

Just watched Francis' draft trump video and please please pretty please slip to us at 9!!! What a bloke, I heard about the passing of his brother last year and never had heard him speak until watching this video and I'm sold. But realistically if he's not taken between 3-6 those clubs should fold as he's a star.

Remember playing on him in the under 18s about half way through 2014 and we only probably had 3-4 contests against one another but he dominated me, ended up having to move up the ground to actually get a couple touches. Best player I've played with/against in junior footy without any doubt

depends, every club will have different rankings, i remember a few years back when atley was basically everyones 2nd or 3rd preference from picks 5 -14.

Yeh i watched it too this morning. Has top 5 talent written all over him. If he slips to us at 9 its a miracle, saying that melbourne and carlton dont have great records selecting the right player with their early picks.

Milnera has been spoken about as a potential bolter, I think 2 or 3 players may jump up after the interview process and thden those who don't interview or perform at the combine will drop.

I think we will grab a potential star at pick 9 and a very good player at 13.

I think we will grab two very good players with 9 and 13. And that will be a brilliant result. Two very good players, a good player in Seedsman, a potentially very good player in Hampton (probably more likely good), and unknown in Gore and a potential star in Menzel is a fantastic off season in anyone's books.

I'm confused. Why does that article have us only at pick 16?

It looks to be using the pre-trade period pick changes and also wedged in the Sydney and Brisbane academy picks to bump down some clubs' picks. It ought to at least update with the post-trade period changes.
