Oliver is a gun. Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see him go inside the top 10. Essendon and Carlton are the big chances to take him, IMO.

Looking more and more likely that Francis will fall...
I want Oliver ......he actually is a bigger need than Francis

One contested beast of a midfielder versus a Goddard player

As good as Goddard has been over his career at reading the game, getting possessions (cheap) and precision kicking .....he's never been a game winner or a structural player

Concern Francis = Goddard????

Quote: Wayne's-World: "Really confident we'll get a really good player at #9 and #13

Really confident none of those will be Tucker or Collins"

I hope you're right W-W.

I'm personally hoping for 2 out of Francis, Burton & McKay.
Add Curnow & Oliver .....any of those 5 will be a dream get

I think if we walk away with collins and tucker it will be very underwhelming. Meltdown. Im starting to believe we have a genuine chance at grabbing francis! Apart from weitering, schache, parish, weideman and curnow who will most probably be gone id rank the next top 10 in preference:
Francis
Milera
Burton
Oliver
Mckay
Balic
Bonner
Tucker
Collins
Ah chee

This 3 1/2 weeks waiting for the draft is going to be like an eternity - and since our picks are confined to the narrow top 13 range, we only have a group of about 10 players to continually discuss.

To assist in overcoming the repetitive discussion and boredom of the pre-draft period, when is WADA going to start? At least until the whitewash is confirmed one can dream of the EFC, AFL & those 30 odd players being duly and appropriately punished, execution by lethal injection.

Goddard is 30 this year .....IMO Essendon will take Francis as a replacement for Goddard / Watson

Essendon's priority is to replace a slow / aging midfield ......that's why they wanted Parish & why i expect them to take Francis and maybe even Milera

Can't see Essendon taking Weideman as he and Daniher play too much the same role

Every possibility Weideman could be available at #9 .......would people take Weideman over a Mackay (at #13) or a midfielder??

For me if we get Milera at 9 and Burton at 13 ill be happy. However Milera is the Bont of this draft and is flying up the rankings. Fair chance he wont be there at 9 now with GC possibly grabbing him before us.

It always bemuses me how, despite the recruiting staff having watched these blokes actually play real football all season, that at the end of the season some players rocket up the rankings due to their Combine testing.
It's all a media beat-up. I doubt whether combine testing really has a huge impact on recruiting teams at all. It might help to tip the balance if two players are considered neck-and-neck but I believe clubs base 99% of their draft rankings on on-field performance and character assessments.

Yeh true however there tall stocks are abit thin atm. In the past 2 years theyve lost ryder, carlisle and fletcher. Replaced them with mckernan, luenberger.. Pretty underwhelming replacements.. atleast 1 of their picks they will go tall. Maybe collins will be next weeks bolter?

Not even in the same stratosphere as Bont ......Milera if anything is the most hyped player in the last 4 weeks .....

It depends of course on availability of players at our picks .....but i still believe we need the contested inside mid and the KPF

Milera is not the right fit unfortunately .......but it depends on how the cards fall on the day

For me if a choice and the guy is 100% fit .....Burton over Milera on the basis that Burton is an excellent mark

This gets massively underrated .....the Crows value highly good character and leadership skills

So many of our recruits have been club leaders at U18 level

Milera's sanfl finals were electric. A young player that puts in those types of performances will always get noticed and increase their chances of going high in the draft. The kid can play. Looks like the next s.burgoyne.

Don't disagree with you on Milera .....going to be a very good player

I find it staggering that Twomey keeps suggesting that Francis could make his way to our first pick. Surely on his form this year he warrants a top 5 pick? Why would he fall? There have been some suggestions (Brett Anderson on SEN) that some clubs see him as a flight risk. Perhaps there are also question marks about where he'll play his best football as he's in that 'tweener' height category.

Anyway I wonder if Twomey is being a prick-tease or whether he actually has some good mail from clubs that Francis may drift out to pick 9?

Francis is a versatile beast. Good footskills, great contested mark, athletic, good defensively, very physical. Francis isn't an 'icing on the cake' player like Menzel is - he is a piece that you can build around.

I would love Oliver too, but you just don't pass on a player like Francis if he's available.

No ....i think the fact Francis has not a defined position would be well discussed by AFL clubs

Is Francis a KPP?
Is Francis a Midfielder?

Francis = Goddard

Goddard is not structural .....and is not a game winner like a Hird

So the question is can Francis become a Hird type player ?

BTW i believe Goddard was mis - coached most of his career being allowed to play loose man type roles to bring into play his elite kicking / decision making

For about 4 games Goddard played FF for St Kilda & was superb .....then they put him back as the quarter back

This is what makes me think we'll get Tucker. Great leader, as well as a need for us.
Need? ......HB Flanker?

Wigg, Shaw, Seedsman, Hampton .......wheres the need for another "outside" player?

Im not saying he is the same quality of player as Bont, I am saying Bont was the bolter in his draft year and Milera is the bolter in this one.

No way he makes it to us. No way.

Yes he's risen in draft calculations as is Oliver ......IMO Weideman will slide due to no exposed recent form and KPP are bigger risks

Really struggling to see Francis sliding .....Essendon, Melbourne or Carlton (#8) b4 us can't see letting him pass

I might still get Curnow?

The bolded are not true HBF's. I would also argue that Wigg is best played as a back pocket rather than a HBF/wingman. Seedsman is no guarantee to succeed with us, either.

I tend to look at needs by skill rather than by position, anyway. Tucker has speed, agility and an accurate kick... do we not need that?

Weid won't slide. KPF's are becoming more and more like gold in these drafts.
