Agree. I know nothing, and I mean nothing about the draftees apart from what I've read in the last week, but I love the sound of burton. All the other guys described as elite athletes etc etc which is great. But burton described as a natural footballer, quicker footy brain than the rest. This is the type of player I like. Cream always rises to the top.
the only concern would be that he may have a short career as his knee joint has been altered and scraped back following tib plateau fracture (fracture through knee joint)- worse than a knee recon as early onset arthritis will set in ...just a matter of time

he is defintely talented enough but the risks worry me

Harry Mckay, Wayne Milera and Riley Bonner are the three I hope we go after at 9 and 13. If the 0.0001% chance that Francis is still there then take him obviously but if not then Mckay at 9 then Milera at 13. But realistically whatever is the best talent left I'll be happy with as a fan... Don't wanna see that arrogant sack Burton playing for us though

Don't care about Arrogance, just want the best talent. So what if he thinks he's good, so does Wingard and so did Carey.

Not sure why so many people see arrogance as a bad thing in a sportsperson, the best have always had a bit of arrogance about them.

I don't think it's a bad thing often. I love it in most sports people like Tomic, Kyrgios, Warner, LBJ, Butler and Tex but this bloke I do not like and he'll be the next Gorringe...

Just about to say the same. Duck was the most arrogant man on the planet. Backed it up too.

I reckon if he gets too far ahead of himself, Tex might flex some muscle

I just think there are too many risks associated with taking Burton at 9 or 13.

- seriously bad injury and quite rare too so prognosis in future is a bit of a mystery.
- No exposed form in 2015 so we'd be making a guess that he would have had a great 2015 if not injured.
- He's 190cm and he's played most of his career as a tall forward. He's not tall enough for that at AFL level so you're asking him to either be a third tall or a midfielder which he hasn't done much before. He's said recently he sees himself as a midfielder in future but I wonder if he's just saying that because he knows he's not tall enough to monster the big defenders in future.

Anyway, good luck to the kid, but the question marks, in my eyes, see him in the Pick 20 to 30 range.

I believe he will go later than expected as well from what I've heard about his knee injury. Sounds bloody horrific for a young bloke and any club taking him in the top 20 is taking a huge risk but if it pays off it will be high reward.

After watching some prospect highlights I have no doubt that Francis will be gone before us. I think we should grab Ryan Burton with pick 13. Has a high ceiling and a SA lad. Pick 9 is an interesting one, I think we should go for a midfielder. A young gun that will come good in a few years in our window. I've heard we should maybe target a KPF but I think that's next years job. I really think McGovern will come on big time with another pre season under his belt

Yep...I heard the presser and was left in no doubt that the list needs talls according to noble

McKay , weideman , Collins and Burton will be the ones in mix

I really hope Melbourne or essendon don't grab McKay

If francis slides , we will no doubt take him as mad not to ...can't see him getting past pick 5 however
When it comes to McKay, I am more worried about Carlton. They will take KPD with their pick 1 and then I think KPF with pick 8. I think Melbourne will go Curnow with one of the picks as a tall forward to complement Hogan and a midfielder and for Essendon, I think they will pick Francis and will go for a midfielder with the other pick (Parish if he is there).

Carlton is our major worry for McKay IMHO.

Agree ...would take him if certain others were gone but I think he's a 20-25 pick

Hopefully they go weidemann , also worried essendon go weidemann meaning McKay is next tall forward on the boards

The good news is if others go tall then Francis may become available ..win / win

We will get 2 good players , confident of that

A few cm sure but the 7 cm difference between say Joe Daniher and Lever is like Brad Crouch playing on Tex.

Strange comment that you don't see 200cm defenders - Jake Carlisle, Jordan Roughhead, Rory Thompson, Harris Andrews etc.
They're hardly elite defenders though.... Carlisle could be at a stretch but he is also sub 200.

Similarly, the most dominant over 200cm forward is Paul Salmon. Next best would be Tippett. After that it doesnt really read as the who's who of forwards. Tallness up forward seems to be more for 'structure' and making a contest then for any other reason.

Lets be honest, we know stuff all about these young kids.. scouts at the club have been watching these kids for years. so im putting 100% trust in them to pick up great kids at 9 and 13. I can already see people whinge that we didn't get so and so etc.. give 2-3 years to make judgement.
Right now we are only going by names that others have discussed like Francis or Burton or Milera.
