I genuinely don't think there is any chance Francis slides. Melbourne, Essendon or Carlton will grab him. No way they pass.

Personally I don't think it is a bad thing. Francis is more of a luxury than a necessity. I'd rather a top end guaranteed mid and a tall.

This is how I see it playing out;

  1. Weitering - Carlton
  2. Schache - Brisbane
  3. Parish - Melbourne
  4. Francis - Essendon
  5. Weideman - Essendon
  6. Oliver - Gold Coast
  7. Curnow - Melbourne
  8. Mathieson - Carlton
  9. Milera - Crows
  10. H McKay - Carlton
  11. Collins - Richmond
  12. Burton - Adelaide
Note I'm not including any Academy picks given they don't impact on our choices.

Carlton have gone KPD, Gun Mid, KPF. They would be rapt with that.
Melbourne have gone elite mid, highest ceiling mid
Essendon have gone power forward & Elite talent
Gold Coast get an elite inside mid

My dream scenario would be getting Francis and Curnow, but that isn't happening. Or I'd love Weideman & Curnow. Milera & Burton would be ok, but not the best outcome possible.

After 12 I don't care what happens.

Look - I agree.

Except that every year a top line SA player slides, due to VIC sides subconsciously prioritizing players they saw more often at the end of the year.

Melbourne will certainly take a mid and a tall. Essendon could too, though you'd think they'll take a tall and Francis. Carlton could take him at eight, too.

Not likely, but not impossible ...

Very true, look at Durdin last year, was rated anywhere to be going from 5-13...and we got to pass on him

Yeah, that was basically the line I was taking

Which does make me wonder whether clubs will start grabbing guys out of prison as Cat B rookies. Someone like Garlett would be prime in that role, out of prison, 70k job, not going to walk into that too often on release. Be a far better bet than on an international player, one season in the SANFL to get some fitness and away you go.

But I digress and by digress, I mean derail the thread

Do you see Francis playing as a regular HBF or as the third tall in defense?
I'd like to see him as a half back flanker. He moves well, plays attacking, has a beautiful kick and could take a lot of intercept marks.

If he wasn't 1 of the 3 tall defenders he could be moved out of defense if 1 of our forwards got injured (during the game) and we wouldn't lose any of our talls out of defense.

Is there any intel that suggests there is even a remote chance of Francis sliding to our pick or is it hope more than anything?
Callum Twomey (expert draft commentator) in his latest 'Road to the Draft' podcast, said he genuinely believes Francis could slide to Adelaide's first pick.

If we don't take Francis at pick 9 Noble should be sacked.
So what if he isn't available, that's just more excuses coming from a weak front office, it's Nobles job, get it done or we will sack chapman. Amirte!

(Sorry this is my first irrational club bashing, I hope that i'm doing it right :) )

Spot on, except we need Schache as well.

Can we rookie list Gorringe or DFA if we drop Lowden? Could do with a ruck back up (not rating Lowden)....yes, I know we have ROB

Same thing happened with Aish. Lot of people had him going at 2 mid-way through the year and he ended up sliding to 7.
Did aish dominate the u-18 carnival like Francis did this year though? From memory Aish was a bit underwhelming in his draft year after recovering from injury.

I don't remember enough to say, but he did enough to earn a second consecutive AA spot on the wing. Finished the season off well with Norwood too.

Gorringe any chance for a rookie spot? They obviously couldn't trade him.

Category B :)

I reckon if they'd have traded Lowden he may have been a shot but three/four rucks is enough, five is a waste on a list ( and I still think Gorringe has talent to burn)
