Desperate for Milera to get through to 9. Looks to be one of those players that's impossible to tackle and can deliver a ball inside 50 yet doesn't mind the physical stuff. The fact that he's an SA boy and a crows supporter is just an added bonus.

A long time since that rising star - Andy Otten at 192cm now has the size to be a KPD IF NEEDED. And none of us hope he will be, just like Cheney.

WCE has eight non-ruckmen above 193cm. We have six. If you shift it to 192cm (so we can include Ramsey, Tex and, yes, Otten), we have nine players and WCE still have eight.

We need some KPD depth and we should pick it up in the rookie draft.

But you can only play two KPD's each week, and Lever will eventually be one of them.

If you look at Hawthorn's grand final team, they had nine players rotating through the midfield. THAT is where we need quality for our actual 22, before we need depth in defense.

Bizarre argument. You keep saying we have KPD depth but including players who aren't KPDs. Are you saying if Talia and Hartigan get injured, we play Ramsey or Tex or Otten at FB and CHB. Because they're over 192cm?

There's one small issue with that. They would get destroyed. And we would lose.

At least one of those emerging guys, if not 2 or 3, will have a great year a la Laird. We draft well and develop well. If we could just stop our best players from leaving, that flag's ours.

Watching those highlights it is hard not to get excited by him. Serious talent. That goal against Port at AO was created out of nothing, but it is his work around the ground that impresses most.

I thought the idea we could take Milera over Francis was insane. Now I'm leaning towards Milera. Just a super talent and perfect for what we need.

Nah don't stress. West Coast barely had a single KPD last season and made the GF. Get team defence right and it could be ok.

How do you see Hawks KPD depth?

If Frawley goes down, they are relying in Schoenmakers, Litherland, Spangher & Heatherley. If you don't count Gibson & Birchall as KPD's (I don't)

Name me a club where their FB & CHB went down, that their cover would be fine. Eagles made it work with no-names to replace; you'd see the same from any club.

I can't believe Vader stands by guys like Otten and VB, yet writes off Grigg & M.Crouch. The latter have been in the system 8 yrs & 11yrs respectively and still embarrass themselves and the club on game day.

Who says I'm standing by Otten? Have you seen me write a single post calling for his inclusion in the best 22, or supporting the decision to give him a 2-year contract?

Right now, I don't know whether he's cooked or not. He's coming back from a 2nd knee reconstruction and his form was better this time around than it was after his 1st reconstruction. Will he make it back? I have no idea. Maybe yes, maybe no. Was it foolish to give him 2 years with such big question marks over him? Absolutely - I think 12 months would have been a much better option.

All I have said in this thread is that Otten has been used as a KPD in the past, and his ability to play that role is the reason why he has been retained. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. I didn't say that he's a superstar in that position, and yes he did have a particularly bad game against Gunston. But that's not the point. The point is that the club considers him to be a KPD option, has played him in that role in the past, and presumably has intentions of doing so again in the future.

You need two KPD's. You need nine mids.

We have three KPD's. We have maybe six quality mids.

We also have nine players 192cm or taller (including one who was close to AA u/18 full back). Take of that what you will.

Are you saying we spend ANOTHER first round pick, just for depth? Or are you saying exactly what I've already said, that we should get KPD cover in the rookie draft?

Carlton will take weitering with pick 1, mckay at 8 and either collins or mathieson with 11.
Essendon will take oliver and either curnow or weideman with their 2 picks 4,5.
Melbourne will take parish at 3 and whoever essendon dont select in the kpf pool at pick 7.
Gold coast is the unknown.
Richmond will take ah chee at 12, unless he goes earlier.
Adelaide are either going to take francis, mckay or milera with pick 9. With pick 13 its a toss up between burton, tucker, balic, bonner and dunkley.

This is not his mock, though - just a ranking of players. He's never been big on Harry McKay, despite a lot of conjecture that he will go in the first ten live picks.

It's form guide and mckays form isn't top 10 it's more his projection according to most clubs

To be fair the club once saw Pods as a 'KPD option'
There are always fallback plans, but there is no way that without many injuries otten is going to be given a KPD role.

Not sure I'm overly keen on Harley Balic who Twomey has linked us to, disposal very average on top of lacking penetration to my eye.
Same with Rhys Mathieson, ball magnet, hard at it, but very average foot skills.
Really hope the two players we eventually settle on have both accurate and penetrative foot skills this time.

Oh please! Every one knew that last year we were taking Lever and the year before Matt Crouch is he was available. If we are getting linked to Tucker, H.McKay, Balic, Dunkley then it means that there is genuine interest there from our part. It's too far out to get a very good read on the ranking of those players on our draft board. A couple of days before the draft and I think Emma Quayle will get out picks right (at least pick 9).
