List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Fair call. He is... albeit completely unproven at AFL level, and not highly rated in his initial draft year.
Underrate this kid's potential at your peril, looked bloody good to me on the limited exposure I've seen, had no trouble finding the pill in the VFL against men in his first year.

We do not need mids this year, we have just added 4 players to our list and have a plethora of others that need to be given a chance to succeed. We will add Jarman next year and possibly someone like scharenberg. Looking like 2 of Milera, burton, bonner for me. Definately cannot see us going Curnow the club will not be stupid enough with the flight risk even though there is potential there.

The Crows are going to trade in someone requiring a knee reco? :(;)I hope not

I don't mind us taking on a developing tall in the rookie draft but right now we have the makings of a fantastic side. We have great tall forwards and tall backs and we have great small forwards backs and mid backs. What we don't have is a great midfield and the only way of rectifying that quickly is to put as many irons in the fire as we can. We can always trade for a key forward in 3 years that someone else has put the work into but next year and 2017 have to be our priority now.

According to the AFL Ratings 2015 positions, this is how clubs are with Key Forwards (note Ramsey for us is a Key Defender under this)

He was rated as a pretty good player last year. I was hoping we'd get him.

Just flicked back to one of the pre-draft threads too to check whether I was remembering this correctly - Thank you Knightmare :

Power Rankings are close to the dumbest and most pointless things in existence.

What really counts is the fact that Gore was drafted at #55 in the 2014 National Draft. That's the best indicator of how his talent was perceived pre-draft. Now, he may have gone somewhat higher if he were available in the 2015 draft, but that's purely hypothetical. Certainly his VFL performances were encouraging.

We desperately need high quality inside mids, to replace Dangerfield and Thompson (likely to retire next year).

We picked up a lot of outside mids during this year's trading period, but no inside mids. All of the outside mids we picked up have question marks hanging over them, which is why their previous clubs were so willing to trade them. Potentially we have improved our stock of outside mids quite considerably - now we need to address the lack of quality inside midfielders on our list.
vader please name the 'outside mids' we packed up this trade period ???!!!!!

we picked up unproven half back flankers (hampton/seedsman), a half forward (menzel) and an inside mid (gore)

we hope to transition a smith and or seedsman/hampton into an outside mid role but we picked up 0 outside mids

we desperately need a player like milera who played well in U18 champs as an outside mid (and also up forward for central) , so he's proven at his own level and hopefully we can develop him into a high quality outside mid

As I said.. he's largely an unknown quantity as far as I'm concerned. I haven't seen him play at all and I look forward to having that opportunity. The reports I've read about his VFL performances were very encouraging. I'm not saying that he won't make it and I'm not writing him off - I'm just saying that he wasn't highly rated in his draft year, which he clearly wasn't given that he slid all the way to #55.

Going on his U18's champs and the 3 or 4 VFL games I watched him play on 7Mate this year I'd class him as essentially an inside mid with a nice turn of pace.....I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised with the actual talent Gore has and he will be a very handy pick up.
correct bicks- inside mid ...he's made of the right stuff

I have absolutely no problem at all with us picking up a high quality outside mid, as well as a high quality inside mid. As I said, the likes of Hampton, Seedsman and Menzel all come with massive question marks over them. They may all turn out to be genuine guns, or they could be delisted after spending 2 years in the SANFL. Only time will tell. I would be very happy for us to land a player like Milera, as long as we also land a gun inside midfielder to go with him.

Jesus, after seeing that Essendon must be taking Weideman!

unlikely to be any gun inside mids at 9 or 13 unfort vader..don't think mathieson suits and he's the one likely to be available

oliver would have been good but he looks to be well gone

this years only real depth /strength is KPF ..so milera and a KP looks likely

So in other words Essendon need to draft 5 this year and Carlton at least 2.

They may put Hooker as a KF now, but yeah, they are in dire need of KPF. Or a swingman. Hence Francis should be picked by them.

(Worse when their KPD are Hurley, Gwilt, Pears & Hooker)

Quite possibly the case.

wouldn't surprise me if they took weideman and burton or weid and curnow

will not be shocked to see parish available at pick 9 if he gets past 3
Carlton will take him at 8 if he's there.

One of Essendon's picks will be Weidemann. Looks like they psyched Melbourne out of taking him. So many mind games and misinformation this year.

We need mids this year, though, really. We need players who will be able to help us in a 2017/18 push. KPF's won't be able to help us do that. Mids will. That's partly why I want us to take Milera and Hibberd this year, trade a 2017 1st for a 2016 1st and take Strnadica (KPF/ruck), and trade our 2016 1st for Neale. Plus Jarman. Leaves us ready for 2017/18 and for 2021-23.

You are enthusiastic as I like that, but you state we need mids, and then name an outside half forward winger (76kg) and a half backer??? You have been ultra consistent in your love for Hibberd and in part Tucker, another half backer who has struggled to play midfield, so I am convinced that your midfield assertion doesn't matches your preferences.

However, the question that I am interested in asking though is who do you, leaving injury aside, rate higher, Hibberd or Burton? In fact if you ranked Hibberd what draft position would you take him? i.e. How many players do you rate above him?

I ask because Hibberd has significant injuries of his own, plus as an over ager he has already had a extra year of development. I view that as a lower ceiling. If you compare him in this regard to McKay, McKay has almost 2 yrs of additional development before he is Hibberds age, in an AFL system. What is it about Hibberd that has you locking him in every post?

Apologies if I seem to be picking, but i am sure you will passionately defend your assertions and I am keen on understanding your viewpoint.

If Essendon take Weideman ...they won't take Francis

Still think Parish is much needed for his run in a slow Essendon midfield .......maybe Weideman and Parish

That could see a Francis slide

Which one is likely to be a game changer .....win games off his own boot ......Burton !!

Exactly. They way I say it, there are no elite inside mids around our pick who also off a major point of difference. I think that we would be better off getting Milera + a KPF (and rookie a mature KPD), get a better look at CEY and Gore and then go hard at inside mids next years in trade/or draft.

If carlton take him at 8 it's good for our options at 9 and even 13
So many permutations. I think Carlton would love Weitering and McKay, Parish and Matheison. There a good chance of that quadrella. Feel like Curnow could slide all the way to Richmond or St. Kilda. Don't think Carlton are a lock to take him.
