:thumbsu: Very common to have new recruits no play a game in first season ......it means zilch in terms of their future

It's the 3rd year where proper assessments can be made

Not if your Vader, it only takes 1 year with him, have to wonder what "galaxy" he's on sometimes..:)

According to the AFL Ratings 2015 positions, this is how clubs are with Key Forwards (note Ramsey for us is a Key Defender under this)

(Brisbane includes Jackson Paine, who they have committed to re-rookie)
I find Brisbane leading this stat amusing. 6 duds.

Gore, possibly - he's an unknown quantity. Possible, but unlikely.
Lyons - not a snowball's chance in Hell.
Can't stand your continual denigration of Lyons. Time to wait and see whether you are right or wrong next season. What of Lyons' game do you think will not stand up when given an opportunity?

So after careful consideration, I want Milera and Burton.
Mileras highlights look amazing playing for the CD and I think that Burton will come good.

one far, far away.

No guarantee he'll make it ......but Lyons game is VERY similar to Terry Wallace when he played ....and he wasn't bad at all

Well if you are looking two years out you need to project the development of our existing players along with our trading etc... are you arguing that we should draft inside players this year in anticipation of losing players for 2017? What player picked today would be ready to be an A-Grader in the midfield in 2017? Surely not.
Problem is that very few of our kids have the scope to develop into A-grade mids. Smith, Laird, B Crouch, ..... <crickets chirping>.

Drafting mids with #9 and #13 won't guarantee that these kids will become A-graders.. but it would almost double the number of kids we have on the list with the potential to become A-graders.

Speed, endurance, foot skills, where do you want to start?

I'm not denigrating him. I just don't believe in elevating players based on nothing more than blind hope. It's called realism, as distinct from wishful thinking. There is nothing in Lyons game to suggest that he will even become a B-grade player, let alone an A-grade player.

Sorry Vader - we have more A Graders than most of the other teams. Champion Data ranked us being only behind the Hawks from memory.

Walker, Betts, Talia, Smith, Sloane, Jacobs, Laird, Lynch - add in Lever and Crouch in 2016 and it is looking very very strong in terms of "elite".

Are you suggesting that none of the list - outside of the players mentioned above - are capable of becoming important parts of our team?

You insist that Matt Crouch is average, but he doesn't need to be his brother to be an important part of our push for a premiership. I love what he brings and rate him very highly in terms of what our club needs.

Anyway, IMO we have the elite bit covered ... that doesn't mean we stop recruiting the best talent we can. Which we will do tonight. Inside - outside - key position - whatever.

Agree with this ......getting out of hand both now in draft and trading ......what happened to pure drafts and draft tampering

Yes we know that by our attempt to do a deal to get Schacke ......but there's really only 2 possibilities, McKay & Weideman

Curnow, Burton, Himmelberg are all 191-192cm ......are they KPP? .....wouldn't think so
Himmelberg has grown 3cm this year and is 194cm

I think this fact might have got us interested as his ground ball and agility is v good

Whilst I'm not a fan there is absolutely nothing wrong with Lyons' foot skills..

  • Grigg, Lyons and Crouch have had more than enough opportunities. Not going to happen for these players.
    • Crouch will be a very solid B-B+ grade player, but not A-grade.
    • Grigg will be delisted at the end of 2016.
    • Lyons is C-grade, and has no chance of getting remotely close to being A-grade.
  • Laird could well make the transition from defence to inside midfielder. Definite possibility - and he does have A-grade potential (which I wouldn't have said 12 months ago).
  • Brown doesn't appear capable of making the same transition - he's an excellent shutdown small defender and that seems to be his destiny.
  • CEY will be given opportunities this year, but I just don't see him ever becoming an A-grade player. After 4 years on the list he still hasn't consolidated himself in our best 22. A-graders don't take 4 years to find their way into the 22.
  • Atkins is more outside than inside.
  • That leaves Gore & Wigg, both of whom I regard as largely unknown quantities at this stage - but given that neither played an AFL game in their debut season, I doubt that they will turn out to be A-grade players. That's not to say they won't be successful AFL players, just not A-graders.

For those arguing with Vader, it is pointless.

Why? He argues in actuals. There is no opinion in the current statements that "such and such" is not rated enough by the Crows to play more games. It just is. He follows forward projections based on their original draft selection with a curvature along their opportunity (game time) given, and exposed form. This is not really that subjective for debate. There are suppositions contained in this, but ones that are in the state of schrondingers cat.

He has absolute unwavering confidence in this formula, so remains resolute in his opinions, unable to be wavered.

What he doesn't get into is the subjective and emotive views that other posters have on players growing with changes in environment. More opportunity, personal growth/desire/hunger, new coach, new game styles, Parenthood, mentors etc. Things that could trigger rapid development that some players exhibit, beyond their established development curve.

Statistically, he should be right more often than not, which would only reinforce his beliefs.

That pretty close to right Vader?

Hey.....i've been rused .....i was told a backroom .....i've been lied to, it's a cubicle  .....like an exhibition booth

I expected the war room depicted in "Draft Day" Movie ......feel let down

Tell me what the difference is to how teams were layed out last year at tables ......all they did is surround them with 3 walls .......joke #amateur

Walker, Betts and Lynch are all forwards.
Talia, Smith & Laird are all defenders.
Jacobs is a ruckman.

That leaves Sloane as our only A-grade midfielder. I'd include Thompson here as well, making it 2x A-grade mids.

Lever is also a defender, and Crouch appears about as often as Brigadoon.

Two A-grade midfielders is not remotely good enough for a premiership contender. We have enough elite players, but our midfield is woefully under-powered.

Amazing how 3cm changes your opinion on a player .......have to bid !

Anyone else feel there is a degree of group think associated with Oliver going top 5?

Wouldn't surprise me if he went in the teens.

NO NO ......#9 PLEASE
