Wouldn't be happy with Conca at 6 for mine. Solid player but has no outstanding qualities that you'd want in a top 10 pick. I'd rather we take a punt on Harper, Pitt or Horlin-Smith if we're going to think outside the box and go for the shock selection.

Agreed Toadvine, I think we will stick with either Heppell (if available) or Polec. Both really sound choices, hard working and described as two player's that will make sure they get the best out of themselves. I think if we surprise everyone at six it will be for Lynch, not really a big surprise, but still not what everyone is expecting.

When I first heard we were looking at Conca I was a bit dissapointed but having thought about it I don't really mind although I'm not convinced that this would be a best available pick, but more of a pick to suit our needs and Dimma's philosophies.

185cm, good overhead, and looks like he will fill out into a good size. Sharp player who has a lot to like about him. A perth newspaper likened him to Griffin but I'm thinking he's more of a cross between Rhys Palmer and ROK but that's just off the top of my head. Can play inside/outside and could play half back or half forward. Had a 27 possession BOG game late in the WAFL season playing on Byron Schammer.

I think there is no doubt Polec has greater weapons but Conca looks like the type of player who will stay involved for the entire game and be able to fill any role the team needs, an important quality now that there are only 3 on the bench. Polec on the other hand looks like the type that would turn it on for a quarter or a game and then go missing for a while.

Conca has also been lauded for his leaderhsip and character and will fit into the the team and its structure reall well. I think it's been said for a long time that the mids in the top 30 of this draft are very even and a club will appear to reach for a player but it's just that they value them more highly than what the public might. TFLUA overlooked this guy at our second pick in the mock as he believes that Conca is a bit vanilla but I think his speed, agility, overhead marking, good kicking off both feet, leadership and pure desire are a really good combination. Would be nice if he could kick it like Deledio but the reality is that in a dilute draft the full package at 6 is most likely not going to happen.

Still think Lynch is the most talented at 6 but wouldn't sneeze at Conca and think he'll fit into our structure really well.

wouldnt be dissapointed with conca at 6, doesnt have the potential to be as good as some of the others, but is almost certain to be a good player.

he was impressive at the chamionships, stood out for me. love it when the medium types are good overhead. good skills, good decision maker and just a very well rounded player.

Polec 198cm and 83kg?????
Bloody hell. We can't pass that up.
Imagine him and Dustin running around?

Think you'll find its 189cm. Still i agree we cant pas that up. The more and more i hear about him the more i want him here.

Just reading the article about his work ethic and the praise he has received from a Senior SANFL coach is proof enough.

If he is there and thats a big if i think Richmond would be STUPID not to take him.

p.s. hopefully the Conca & Tape talk is just driving there price up so we get another to fall to us later although that probably dosent make much sense as neither would be there for our 2nd pick anyways

I've been really busy for the past week - I'll just try and catch up on comments here now.

Heppell is much more of a midfielder than Tape has - and unlike Tape who's always been a KPP who had to develop an attacking side to his game - Heppell was an attacking flanker/midfielder with outstanding composure.

Heppell reads the play really well - and cuts off attacks better than Deledio did in 2010. His left foot is a real weapon - and he has the capacity to go in and get his own ball in the midfield - something that won't be expected of Tape.

Tape has the capacity to play on a lead up forward - or quite possibly a genuine KPF - which Heppell isn't tall/big enough to do.

Main issue regarding Tape - is he big enough to play as a KPP? Is his attacking side good enough to be a taller Mackie?

Yeah - Polec's a burst player - but consistency will come as he improves his tank. Finals atmosphere isn't the easiest environment to play 4 consistent quarters in - so the fact he had 19 possessions in the first half under such pressure is a major plus.

Polec article in today's Advertiser:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/jared-polec-the-complete-package/story-e6frf9jf-1225953797620

Not as if his coach is going to say he's rubbish, but he sounds rather ideal...

Kid really starting to grow on me, but dont want to get too attached incase we dont get him & i have to bag him next year lol ;)

The good part about this kid is he has just turned 18 (12/10/92) & has been playing sanfl for 2 years and has huge upside to both his playing and physical development.

Jared Polec could actually grow still & become 191-192 cm tall, So he could end up a very very good size.

For me I'd imagine that we'd go after Heppell and Polec, and nothing has convinced me that we're doing otherwise. This Conca business just appears to me to be articles based on what Emma Quayle said. Notice now how nobody is mentioning Richmond picking up Seb Tape like a week ago.

Heppell or Polec I'd imagine. Not sure who'd I prefer though.

ok, after reading the articles and the paper, im becoming less confident in selecting one of gaff, polec or heppel.
if we land on Conca i will be furious! after watching the highlights and match reports for quite some time now, it seems that Polec is the OBVIOUS option. he is a perfect fit for us! Conca looks like a late teens pick!

Agreed :thumbsu:

Gee I hope the club is more set on who they are picking than we are, seems like we're all over the place with who we want.

The more i think about it the more it has to be whos left out of Polec or Heppell. If i remember correctly the club has said they will draft best avaliable. Conca and Tape although good late first round picks surely cant be considered at 6. The only way would be if Brissy and WC pass on Gaff and we arent keen on him. We have got plenty of later picks where we can gamble a bit but when you get a chance at a lower pick we really cant afford more JON situations. Surely the club has learnt.

Just reading through Emmas Q&A from this afternoon and she seems to be all over the place regarding Conca, has him in line for us and Essendon and then has him as low as the Dockers & Swans at 20-21.

Edit: Emma also thinks that Mitchell will end up with either us or Brisbane. Fingers crossed.

In this situation i would prefer Atley or Lynch to gaff.

Just out of interest, what if Polec and Heppell are both gone by #6...

Gaff? Or not. If not, who? Atley? I like Harper, but understand the reach arguments

That makes things interesting. Still think we need to go best avaliable. We need depth. Taking best avaliable is the only option. I dont think we are in the situation where we can gamble majorly on our high draft picks. So whoever the next best is. Will leave that one to the club :D
