I don’t really understand why it’s seen as such a risk that AFL players (not specially the Duursma’s) will want to go home to play alongside their brothers?

You move away and make mates as you go. I like my brother, lovely guy and all that, but I never for a second had a burning desire to return to the UK just so I could hover around with him.

Yeah, but everyone wants to abandon their friends, family and teammates to play with Harley, so there's that.

Posted this in the other thread that’s moving at light speed. It’s an interesting comparison.

Darcy Jones 2.9sec 20m
7.7 sec agility
Pick 21

Lance Collard 2.9sec 20m
8.15 sec agility
Pick 28

Tyler Williams 2.8 sec 20m
7.8 sec Agility
Pick ?
Still comes down to footy ability, not sure how Tyler ranks against them?

Our pick 2 to the Suns for 7 & 8
Then Suns trade that pick 2 for Melbourne to get Petracca
Melbourne are one of the clubs that really rate CDT
They can have time to develop him so in 3 to 4 years takes over from Max
We wont need to offer pick 13 or 34 as well 2 will be enough

Shame Gold Coast needs points.

Posted this in the other thread. This could work, just needs a small tweak for GC and they can match bids for Uwland and Patterson at 3/4 (but not Addinsall).

Leaves us with 1, 7, 8, 13. Means we can potentially move one into 2026 F1 on the night if another club targets a player.

CE Get: Pick 7, 8
WCE Give: Pick 2, 34, 38, No Bid @ 1

GC Get: Petracca, Pick 24, 28, 38
GC Give: Pick 7, 8

Melbourne Get: Pick 2, 34
Melbourne Give: Petracca, Pick 24, 28, No Bid @ 2

A few assumptions:
  • Big gap between Duursma, CDT and rest of draft cohort (per Twomey)
  • Melbourne being very keen on CDT (makes sense on paper)
  • Aggressive pick trading is something Melbourne have tried many times in the past

I am starting to want CDT. He might not be a ruck, he might not be a traditional KPF - but he's a very good footballer and a very good athlete, and I think he'll find a way to cause damage wherever he's played. Ruck-rover/unicorn, tall wingman. Or play him forward - he'll beat the short guys in the air and the tall guys on the ground. He was thrown forward in the VFL and had 6 scoring shots.

I think CDT and Duursma are both very hard matchups for any opposition team. Now I want our recruiting team to find a way to get both of them, and still manufacture a pick for Sharp or Cumming.

Swung forward and kicked 2.4 if I recall correctly. He's a big mid or a poor KPF. He's not the best at anything. Why would we want that?

Could be a gamechanging sort of player if he puts it all together. Same with Duursma, can just play them wherever they’re needed to win/save the game.

If we get pick 7 for Sharp or Cumming I think playing a straight bat and taking the 2 best talents is the go. Either that or split 2 for 5+F1 to get 2 of Sharp/Cumming/Robey.

Malakai Champion was almost identical to Williams.

I'm a tad surprised we only just signed him up for another year.

This isn't really me inputting for/against your comparison, as it is interesting and you do wonder if clubs will bid on him for those traits vs someone like Jones who had by far the best actual performances of those 3.

Just chiming in to say I rate the Agility test far, far more than the 20m sprint if I was going to randomly pick one for a player we drafted to do well in.

Give me list 2 anyday. Burgeil ran a great 20m sprint but Hewett had the better agility test.

Just feel like players like Petruccelle who can sprint really fast in a straight line might get 1-2 chances to do it each game, whereas players with great agility would be able to apply that to almost any situation (Yeo for his size).

*Williams got 2.89 seconds on sprint and 7.87 seconds on agility so would be just outside both lists.

Not true Tyler Williams plays like a left footed Jamie Cripps
Plays half forward gets on his bike working up and down the ground
Gets lots of goal assists delivering the footy into the forward 50

Anyone at the WA v Metro game would have loved the work rate of Williams.

Agree with you on his working up the ground.

Ash Smith, a tick for list 2.

Yikes. Those lists are poles apart. Some pretty handy footballers in the second list. No world beaters but solid best 23 players.

Robey's second talent league game was much like his first, playing high half forward and impacting with his long leads up through the middle of the ground and the wings to offer an option in transition, and using his physicality to impact in contested situations. Worth mentioning is how clean/soft his hands are in marking contests, able to securely one grab on a lead at pace or through contact. As always, he hit the scoreboard with a couple of goals and was heavily involved in scoring chains for Eastern in a strong win.
