Drafting Suggestions

David Armitage. Quality young player who can't get a game in the St Kilda side, but not for lack of talent. We should be looking at him. Outside mid who can also win his own ball and has decent skills. Pick #9 in 2006 draft. I'm strongly against trading away picks but if we could get him for say pick 50+ it would be well worth it. Streets ahead of both Hislop/Thomson.

With picks 1 and 2 being IMO out of reach here are some other names to keep an eye out for.

Jack Trengove - goal kicking midfielder with sublime skills outside and current captain of SA u18's
Matthew Panos - 2nd best key forward in the draft ATM. ( although I think we've had enough of South Australian key forwards)
Koby Stevens - Elite inside and outside with long penetrating kick. potential top 3.

he should be an absolute star with the amount of ball coming into the forward line. so he wont do any better here unless he adds something to his game.

Is there a list of uncontracted players for 2010?.
If so it would be interesting to see what is around as we should have a bit of money freed up by older players that should no longer be at the club.
This should put less pressure onto new draftees to perform straight away (as always) especially with GC17 's picks year after.

Everyone was assuming that someone like Butcher or Scully would be out of our reach, but like Rich last year those who were touted as number 1 picks early on may slide as the year progresses. We may just end up with a very good kid with a pick around the 5-8 mark like last years draft produced.

Perhaps focusing on winning as mant games as possible with the kids isn't such a bad plan after all.

Agreed. Playing the kids who aren't ready over older players is tanking. Sorry, I just don't think you can go out there and 'try and lose', the players will always try and win.... plainly obvious tanking is all in the lineup. Look at Freo, Melbourne, West Coast - Suspicious injuries, playing kids who aren't ready yet, etc.

Pity WCE rolled out the tank a bit harder than us, instead of them being 1 win away from losing P.P they're still 2, while we will most likely win more than 2 to lose ours.

Don't want to get into a big debate about it on this thread, but why can't we focus on winning as many games as possible while playing the kids?

You have said yourself you would take wins while playing the kids, so surely it is better for the kids development to send them out there with a gameplan that is designed around winning games, which builds confidence but hurts our draft position, rather than losing them, which shatters confidence but improves our draft position.

We will settle it here once and for all RT. Do you honestly think the coaches say to the kids, righto.... we're tanking so go out there and perform at 80%, maybe kick it to them a little bit so we ensure we lose. Kids go out there and try their hardest, if they win it just means they're coming along nicely but it doesn't mean you're not tanking.

Isn't it best to start teaching the young kids now the game plans and pressure of afl level.The rest of the year should focus on allowing the young kids that will be needed for next year and beyond to get used to the style of game they will need to play and the players that will form the nucleus of the Richmond football club.
Otherwise they will be left at Coburg playing in the firsts or seconds playing a different standard of game with a different standard of players.
In the past we have left the draft picks at Coburg too long and when they have been elevated they struggle.Supporters are then frustrated by their performances and the players confidence lowers.
Hopefully we will not follow this path way again.

if we play kids and win what is wrong with that? we will get a top 10 pick and there is some talent, so there is nothing wrong with winning a few more games.
