I think we already have enough outside players, I'm thinking we likely go bigger bodied guys like Jarrod Berry, Daniel Venables, Sam Powell Pepper that have inside/outside ability and are far more contested beasts than Villis...
Fair enough that you want a more inside player, everyone has a better view of their own clubs needs compared to supporters of different teams.

I'm well aware that Villis isn't a contested beast and I wasn't trying to turn him into one. He is worthy of being a top 20 pick for the right team though. Adelaide ranked 2nd in the comp for contested possessions and 12th for disposal efficiency which suggested to me that Villis would be a valuable addition to the Crows.
Wont happen
Unless you're Adelaide's list manager, that's your opinion, not a fact. o_O Please remember the difference.

We will wait and see on that fact!

DraftMe any chance Battle will fall to us?
I feel like he could be the perfect type for us.
(spend your 200th post on me, do it).

I'll happily use my 200th on you. Anything to get out of explaining to the poster above what an opinion is.

I think there's a very good chance Battle is available at Essendon's 20 and a small chance that he even slips to their other 2nd rounder. I agree that he could be a good fit with Daniher and that would mean there is no pressure to be the number 1 option or to play like the tallest forward at 193cm. He's got a frame that's going to build a lot of strength which will help him closer to goal while Daniher plays higher. Awesome set shot for goal too. Could be a very good fit.

Awesome thanks DM. Could turn out like Jack Darling I reckon. Similar tank, accuracy and levels of agility too :P

i rather the eagles reach for SPP than rotham. Midfielders and small forwards are our main needs. SPP is contested beast and could start early next season as a fwd mid. He would a nice rotation behind the likes of SHuey, priddis, mitchell, Gaffs, sheed, yeo and redden but also would have enough precence up forward. I saw a few of his league games this year and was impressed and for a taller guy he does have that x factor and crumbing ability of a small forward. we have plenty of tall to mid size defenders and rotham will struggle to get a look in.

Updates to the big board and mock draft now including the 2nd round here.
Appreciate your work DraftMe

I notice you've got the Sainters taking Cedric Cox and Brennan Cox.

Whilst I applaud your choices, you are surely taking the pi55. :D

Would the bombers take Marshall over Battle? Given Battle would have more of an immediate impact?imo he's the better of the two.

Jy Simpkin could be your man. I really believe he will have the ability to become a midfielder first while still having the versatility to provide some spark up forward. I think he'll be able to contribute inside just as much as outside through the midfield as he gets a couple of AFL pre-seasons into him. In my opinion, he's a more talented option compared to SPP.

Is he someone that you think can join the other young mids at WCE?

:tearsofjoy: I honestly didn't realize that. If I was going to take the pi55 I'd probably pick a couple more Jacks to add to their 6 that they've already got.

It's a tricky one because while they play the same position, there's a 5cm height gap and they play quite different styles. I'd base my decision on who I thought was going to have the best career and I still think Marshall's potential is slightly greater because of his natural athleticism and pretty good hands. However, I find it hard to picture Marshall working in the same forward line as Daniher because he's someone that will get most of his possessions on high leads. Battle is strong in contests and an elite set shot but might not be tall enough to dominate taller opponents in the AFL. Sorry to sit on the fence but I'd be happy with either.

Thanks for the reply!
Think Marshall would be too similair to Danniher in going further up the ground like you said. Whereas Battle, who had good scores at the combine, doesnt get up the ground.

Hey mate, great work on the BB. Wondering who is the best young ruck available at a late draft pick or rookie pick.

Are you suggesting low round picks for these young ruckmen is an absolute waste

Look at the best ruckmen in the league

Goldstein
Mumford
Gawn
Jacobs
Sandilands

There aren't any ruckmen other than English that are rated too highly.

I know Sandilands, Mumford and Jacobs were rookies, Gawn and Goldstein mid 30 s I have no faith in picking ruckmen below pick 30

I think ROB for us will develop from the rookie list into one of the best he will continue to fill out like Primus did

Thanks. Peter Ladhams would be my pick of the late rucks. I like his build, decent tap work, I like his follow up work and I like his left foot. So he'll come in at a good starting point and give a club plenty to work with.

Tony Olango offers a bit of X-factor the way he can run and carry the ball at times but I think will take longer to develop into an effective AFL ruckman.

Updated mock draft is up here now. Just ran out of time getting that 3rd round put together, hopefully it's up tomorrow.

that is the best phantom draft result i have seen for us from the players you had available at our selections, Ainsworth/Berry/Powell-Pepper/Bolton :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

You've made massive changes since your last update just two weeks ago.

What has changed to move McGrath to no. 1, Taranto up 6 positions, Hayward up 15 positions, Gallucci up 17, Battle up 10 and Fisher up 7, while Bowes has gone down 5, Brodie and Florent down 6, Ryan down 10 and Scharenburg down 7?

They definitely have a good opportunity to draft well this year. 4 inside the top 25, they would want to make the most of them to make sure this rebuild is a successful one.

Yeah, happy to explain the changes.

As for pick 1, it's still anybody's guess as to who it is, I'm just leaning towards McGrath atm.

The Taranto and Bowes changes are related and are influenced by when Bowes is bid on. Seems Brisbane do not intend on bidding at 3 which opens up pick 4 for GC who I think will use it on Taranto. I don't think Carlton would bid on both Bowes and Setterfield, so Bowes slides past the GC picks and is available at Fremantle's who I think would love to add another high quality midfielder.

Hayward shoots up because of his star potential and the talk around top 15 teams being very keen (even as high as Carlton's pick).

Gallucci and Battle have apparently both been invited to attend the draft which suggests they are being strongly considered higher than I had them going in my 1st edition.

Brodie slides after talk that Carlton are more keen on others. Could go to one of GC's picks but with Bowes and Scheer coming maybe they look to other parts of the ground.

Florent gets pushed past North's with Hayward & Simpkin rising up and the talk that he wants to stay in Victoria slides him to the Bulldogs who I think would be extremely happy to pick him up.

Ryan, I probably had a little too high. Sydney are apparently quite interested but I still don't think he makes it to their next pick. I have him going to Richmond because I think they could use a player they can be quite confident will make it at AFL level after very good performances as a young VFL player.

Scharenberg, I also probably had a little too high. Not a huge upside to his game and a lack of X-factor sees him slide a bit.

Finally, I really like Fisher and the way he plays. I think a club would be willing to take him a bit higher than I first had him. Size won't hold him back.

Have heard that the Pies are considering Brennan Cox for their first pick if he's available unless there's a slider available. Would much prefer him over Ridley, who I think doesn't suit the style of defence the club is trying to build.
