Can't wait for this one. Good to see Raimi going back to horror before the next Spider-Man. His Evil Dead series is an all-time classic IMO, especially Evil Dead II.
I've read that this movie doesn't disappoint too. :thumbsu:

May 29th is the US release date, haven't seen anything about Australia - anyone know?

Now if only Peter Jackson would do the same.

looks like it's good old style horror, rather than poorly written "torture pr0n".

:thumbsu:

Can't view the trailer at work....but is this the one that starts off with a banker denying a loan to a gypsie and the gypsie placing a curse on said banker???..Pretty sure from memory there is a decent review on dreadcentral.com You will need to click on the reviews tab at the top...

Yeah that's the one.

Saw a pretty good review at IGN - 4.5 stars out of 5.

I didn't read the middle section trying to avoid spoilers, but the opening and closing paragraphs are spoiler free...

Horror legend Sam Raimi is back people, and back with a bang. At midnight last night, he screened Drag Me to Hell at the SXSW Film Festival -- his first foray into true, balls-to-the-wall horror since Evil Dead II in 1987 (unless you count the slapstick comedy of Army of Darkness or the psychological drama of The Gift, which I don't) and the results were quite simply breathtaking.
All too often films get labelled with the phrase "rollercoaster ride," but that sums up Drag Me to Hell in a nutshell. It's a visceral assault on the senses and will have you gasping for breath as the laughs and scares mount. Raimi directs with the confidence and flair of a genre master, while his cast attacks the material with such gusto that it's impossible not to be swept away by the kinetic energy of it all. The result is the most fun I've had in a theatre this year, and an experience I can't wait to repeat when it hits screens this May.

Now we know why American bankers kept on giving out loans to people who couldn't afford it.

If only they had refused, then we wouldn't have ended up with the global financial crisis. Plus a few bankers in hell. A win-win situation. Except for the bankers.

Really good film which I would highly recommend.
If you are a fan of Raimi's earlier work 'evil dead' then you will def enjoy this.
Good mix of horror and comedy. One of the best horror films I have seen for a very long time. If you have sensitive ears then this is not the movie for you!!

I want to take my friends to go see it but they think it looks like a shitty traditional horror.

I have had a copy at my place for about 2 weeks now but unfortunatley when we sat down to watch it it was c-r-a-p.

I have heard it does pay hommage to older school horror in a camp kind of way at times (maybe similar to the F13 re-release). Still I have not heard anything bad about it so am looking forward to it. Good to read some more positive stuff here in this thread.

Anyone interested in some serious horrror scenes needs to track down three French movies. These are all brutal so do your reasearch prior to obtaining them. May not be everyone's cup of tea (looking at you Krusden). Don't worry though they are not B grade in production, acting etc.

Yeah, this movie rocks. Great scares and a good amount of laughs, not too high in the gore factor although there's a couple of moments. No torture pr0n which I found VERY refreshing as I hate that crap. The car fight is one of the better ones I've seen in a while.

There was an 70ish year old guy in the theater near us absolutely loving it, I wish he was my grandpa.

Anyone else annoyed by the twist at the end of the film?

it is pretty obvious I agree,
It would have been better if the boyfriend had of been dragged to hell, as he was holding the button. The effect of that on the main character would have been an interesting way to end it (after all she went through). But they took the easy route.

Good blend of Horror and Comedy. Typical Sam Raimi, which is good. Definitely worth a watch at the the cinema.

Great movie. It seemed to have the feel of the good horror movies of the 1970s & 1980s.

Lead actress Alison Lohman was brilliant in the role, as the pretty damsel in distress - I wonder why we don't see more of her?

The only problem with that though is that she has to physically give the button away, well that's what I got from the movie anyway. Otherwise she should have just got the forwarding address to the worst prisoner you can find and mail it to them.

Watched this one today - good little film. I really love how the morality ploy works in the entire movie with the other banker as well. However the very, very decent looking chick doesn't seem to have much remorse and is always expecting that promotion. The writing is snappy, you really could take away the curse and make it a crime/financial burden and you'd have a good film.

Excellent take on 00 style corporate selfishness that has helped fuel the current climate.

Watched this today. Thought it was ok, but not great. Loved the ending, but thought the actual movie relied too much on cheap scares (sudden loud noises etc) as opposed to anything actually chilling.
