hey guys i have a question regarding the hawks midfield. I kno this might sound stupid but is hodgey moving to the middle full time now? I know he is captain now, but i didnt read anythin about him moving their permanently... did i miss something? ahha

also who do you think is most likely to cop the number 1 tag in the hawks midfield. Burgoyne seems an interesting pick as this is his first full pre-season and we saw wat he could do when he finally settled in at the hawks, but im guessing he would have to be tagged considering how damaging he can be. if hodgey does play through the guts, im guessing he will attract the number 1 tag and burgoyne the second tag if the opponents use one. is burgoyne a good pick you reckon, or do you think more value lies with some one like mitchell who now may run through the middle without an opponent.

thanks in advance :)

Not much difference, but than you have to calculate in how much more your paying for Montagna over Stanton. For this case 10 which is about 42k~ (So Stanton starting would also be making an extra 10 points every week up until trades). Although having said this you will have to pay extra to bring Montagna in than Stanton.

Porbably not a great example, just showing that limiting byes is probably better if the premium mid your leaving out has similar byes to Stanton (late on).

That's interesting, but you'd expect Stanton's inconsistency would see him post a 40 or 50 at some point in the season, making him an easier player to trade in than Montagna.

Yeah thats something you also have to calculate in. Although if Stanton doesnt get tagged expect a huge scoring year from him.

Burgoyne looked very good a couple of weeks ago in the NAB Cup. I know you can only take so much from it, but his movement through clearances and over the ground was fantastic to watch, was a class above everyone else out there IMO. However, if Hodge starts in the middle, like he was last year and most of us suspect this year, then he'll probably get the number 1 tag on reputation, and is the more dangerous player, especially forward of centre where he has proved he can be a good goal scorer.

Burgoyne is a tempting pick if you ask me. Could well slip under coaches radar early in the season as clubs focus on Hodge and Mitchell (the two that traditionally have gotten tags). Is definately worth a punt at that price IMO :)

thanks for the info on burgoyne and all, was quite interesting.

mm you think they would definitely tag hodge and probs mitchell, but i think once burgoyne fires up, coaches will most likely put a second tag on him rather than mitchell, purely because of his clearance work and the space the he finds, and how damaging from that. i almost see him as a way better version of danyle pearce. he can really dominate blow games right open, in a burgoyne like way, but once he is tagged he dissapears for weeeks without any influence. in sayin that however we know that burgoyne is way above that level :P

I wouldn't put him that far ahead of Pearce, new coach/game plan may do the kid wonders and clearly has potential (though that is a very dangerous word of course).

As for some younger mids - which two out of Gaff, Wallis and Polec?

Gaff and Polec would have better JS you would imagine, or more chance of playing round 1 at least.

Anyone keen on James Kelly? Scored well without Ablett in the team last year.

yeaa i kno, i was just talkin in terms of consistency. when tagged burgoynes dt scores may suffer a bit, but he still finds the ball and can kick a couple of goals, in comparison to pearce, who disappears off the face of the earth for weeks on end when he receives attention.

in regards to your rookies. i originally had gaff starting on the field in my team, however i heard a lot of talk about wc supporters saying woosha wont play him from round 1, and we ease him mid-season like he has done with all his young guns apparently :\ could serve as a good downgrade target. that said, he was picked for his elite disposal and is probably the only wc midfielder besides selwood who can use the ball, and subiaco being a huge ground should also suit him due to his massive engine, and should therefore rack up some cheap possesions. I also like the looks of wallis and he is sooo tempting when looking at his stats at u-18 level etc, however i just cant seem to fit him into the dogs midfield :( may be next inline if an injury occurs. as for polec, im trying to stay away from brisbane players altogether. their nab cup display was awful so far and when u look at thier midfield...adcock, redden, rich, polec and then theres black and power, it has potential, but is nowhere near good enough to seriously compete with most teams and i reckon the brisbane mids are going to get smashed week in and week out by other teams and struggle to rack up possesions.

If Kelly was still Back/Mid then I think he would have been super popular. As it is he is only a mid and there are so many options in the midfield. He would be a unique pick and I can't see him letting you down,

Liam Anthony anyone? My only concern is obviously his durability but his scoring potential with all those midfielders rotating through North's midfield now.

He is underpriced and will average over 100 until he breaks something.
What about Foley? I think he can score around 90 until I get round to upgrading him. Richmonds first bye is round 11. Is he worth it or should I just go a rookie?

Foley's best DT year average was 2009 where he averaged 85 over 14 games. Has never been a great DTer IMO and I can't see him reaching his best this year, well at least early on anyway.

Foley aint gonna average 90 imo.

As mentioned above he is not really a DTer, more an impact player. If he has a really really good year I think he will avg 80. More realistic preditcion is 65-75.

what's the argument for Foley improving his career best year by 5 pts a game?

can't see it. 2 years out and you come back better than you've been at your peak? not a good bet imo

I agree with you

But the scoring back down was probably 10 points ~ lower back than, than it is now.

FWIW i see Foley avg 75-80. Depends on a few things including his preseason and injuries. Probably isnt worth it, wont be a bad pick.

Yeah, tough to find rookie mids this season sub-140k. I think you're better off switching a Callinan or Mzungu to the mids and picking another rookie fwd.

Hibberd as a B/M is another to consider. As for pure mids ...

Atley hasn't set the preseason on fire yet but we've got so many injuries in midfield ATM that he's a good chance of getting regular games. Good DTer in the TAC Cup last season.

Pittard should also get regular games. He may even be in Port's best team. Second year player.

Others to consider: Beams, Green, Liberatore and Wallis.

I need a rookie midfielder to fill the final spot.

I have $135k and need someone who doesn't play for GC.

Tips?

There's a few out there who are a good chance to get games

Josh Green (Bris)
Shane Savage (Haw)
Sean Atley (NM)
Ed Curnow (Carl) <--- not sure on this one
Alistair Smith (St K)

^ Curnow will only get games if McLean breaks down again i think. Good inside midfielder but the Carlton midfield's a pretty tought place to get a gig in.

Does have the ability to play HBF? I may have seen him on the HBF in a few teams, but ive also heard he is only a midfielder, so mclean holds him out a bit. But midfield rotations will be very important, You need about 12 "midfielders" per team now. So he still has a chance on the bench.

No, pure inside midfielder. Strong in the core and with decent pace. Only place he'll get a show is in the guts, we've recruited heaps of HB flankers in Duigan, Laider and McInnes last year.

Doubt he'll play early, but could be a good downgrade target if the Blues midfield gets some injuries (touch wood they don't!).
